its a yo-yo up and down to acrue more cap space when the trade deadline arrives.

Not in this case. I didn’t double count players. So if they were called up once, that’s it. They’ve just used an unusually large amount of AHLers to start the season due to injury and a bunch of guys being around the same development timeline.

That’s different than call-ups. You’re talking about accrual. Brannstrom and Bains going down on off-days is accrual. Calling players up actually means they accrue less per day.

Also, Canucks are aiming for 5-5.5m at the trade deadline but I think they will end up less with all the injuries.

If they can even get to 4 million that's a big win. You can likely attach a salary like Forbert's to any deal to get up to the 5.5 million mark.

This road trip feels like an inflection point for the Canucks in general, and Tocchet in particular.

The record is fine so far but Tocchet's obstinacy with keeping Soucy and Myers together is pretty head scratching. The team's two star forwards have had some issues, to say the least. Given the reports that Tocchet told Hughes and Miller to send a message to Pettersson, and how that played out, you have to question some of his decisions. The new system hasn't really worked out. Tocchet can bang on about how the players need to do this and that but if they all are struggling with it, it's not the players that are the problem.

Overall the team has been very inconsistent and you can point fingers at the players but it's the coach's job to keep the ship on course. It's more of a Travis Green vibe this season than what we saw from Tocchet last year. I think the team made a big mistake not bring in some assistant coaches with a strong resume of experience in other organizations.

Yes and no. The "xGoal for" stat tells the real story there. They've actually been fine defensively - their PK minutes are middle of the pack. They are boxing out players and keeping shots to the outside.

They just can't move the damn puck and that's killing the team. Even if they're stout defensively, the fact that they are stuck in their own end is the big problem. Somebody posted zone exit numbers recently and their numbers are brutal.

EDIT: just to follow up, that pair is dead last in xGoal %.

i thought adam foote is in charge of the d pairings? very questionable indeed if those two are always on the ice together. too bad you cant move myers now because he lives in kelowna in the offseason.

That reads like it was written by A.I.

Man, the hockey news was a sacred thing until like 2004 when it became a bunch of pictures and ads and very little commentary.

This is the intro to an article, one quote and then suddenly it's just done. Tragic.

Hockey news lost me when they did a trade deadline special and suggested vancouver trade something like Kesler, Edler, Schneider and more for Mats Sundin.
