We have to start the convo about what to do with Lankinen.

He's far to valuable right now to let walk in the off season...

There's not really much to do.

If he keeps playing well he will demand starter money and playing time, neither of which is available here assuming Demko is healthy.

But right now given the question marks around Demko, we need to keep Lankinen around (plus his value at the deadline won't be anything overly significant anyway).

If by the end of the year it looks like Demko will never be reliable, that's a different story, but we will need to wait and see on that.

Hypothetical. But let's say Lankinen continues to perform and outplays Demko down the stretch.

With goalies looking like they are starting to get paid and with the chance to sign Lankinen to a fair value contract, do we consider trading Demko for a haul?

I dunno I'm just the type that doesn't like to bleed assets. I just don't see how you can let a guy like Lankinen walk considering the fact Demko is going to want a massive contract coming up and his injury history worries me.

Lankinen and a 1st is > than a overpaid injured Demko.

Interesting tidbit from Chris Johnston:

Since the Blue Jackets took David Jiricek sixth overall in the 2022 draft, they haven't been able to agree on whether or not the right-handed D-man is ready to play in the NHL. Have the Jackets now decided it's time to move on from him, C.J.?

Johnston: Well, more or less. I think that is the case. I mean, there's certainly a lot of smoke around the situation and a lot of noise and that's because of the fact that the Blue Jackets have engaged in trade discussions with other teams on this big right-shot D - as you mentioned - still just about to turn 21 years old, very much with his career ahead of him. I think a significant thing has happened here - is initially the Blue Jackets were looking to get another prospect back, someone equivalent, a kind-for-kind type of trade for Jiricek. You know, they're getting to the point where they may consider now a package of picks, maybe even a depth defenceman as part of what it would take to get him. I think that will bring more teams into the mix here. Certainly time is of the essence. He's down in the AHL and doesn't want to be there forevermor
e

Still don’t think he’s coming here but picks and depth defencemen are two things the Canucks can afford to give up.

Debrusk for Zadorov? I mostly suggest this as a joke but I have to admit to being pretty concerned with the length and average cap hit of Debrusk's contract based on early returns. He is younger though.

Lmao they gonna have to pay the vindication tax, they don’t get off that easy. We did them a favour in this deal if we do it.

Friends I have an important question. I got tickets to the Leafs - Nucks game in Toronto in January lower bowl. Going with some buddies who are Leafs fans.

I'm trying to determine the Jersey that will annoy Leafs fans the most.

I'm torn between a Sundin Nucks Jersey or an Alex Burrows Jersey.

Thoughts and suggestions?

100% Sundin

Goodbye Carson Soucy/Noah Juulsen/Vincent Desharnais

(not gonna lie, with how poorly Jamie Drysdale has played in Philly, I'm shocked they're not trying to do this swap)

How exactly do you know this?

Well we know what apartment building he lives in from the Amazon documentary, so it's true that he hasn't bought a HOUSE, but we don't know about his apartment.

That being said, even if he didn't intend to stay, it would be very silly of him to not buy his apartment, just from an investment perspective, his financial planner is probably screaming at him if he hasn't purchased his apartment.

Almost every single GM is hesitant to actually put an offer on the table and are hesitant to actually make a trade. When Allvin and Rutherford want a player, they are aggressive and make legitimate offers.
thanks for the clarficiation. whatever deal they make. it will have to include their 2025 first or 2026 first. as much as i hate to give up picks for help. its a risk that they have to take in order to get to the next step.

depending on the picks, sure, in theory, we could.

And though the timing probably makes no sense for us, if it wasn't a 1st in 25 going back, it might be worth considering.

If they'd take VD, a 2nd and a 4th, the risk:reward starts to look asymmetrical and though i think this kid needs a massive serving of humble pie, I'd probably be interested. I just don't think he helps us at all this year, so if the price is an obstacle to getting help this year, I'm likely disinterested.

I think if a package like that would get it done, it would have happened already. I strongly suspect Columbus wants a 1st.

Oh i know......so unless they really like VD (haha on so many levels) it ain't happening. But humans are capable of some pretty hilarious decisions so you never know. Maybe they'll leave a bit on the table just to send him to a team that will fire him right down to their AHL affiliate.

‘Elias Lindholm signed a seven-year, $54.25 million contract in free agency to be the Bruins' No. 1 center. He has one goal in his last 19 games and zero assists in his last eight games. That's a worrying sign for a player whose scoring is on pace to decrease for a third straight campaign.’

Dodged a bullet there. Although I don’t like the price we paid for him as a rental. He could end up being Boston’s Loui Eriksson.

I wonder if, given the lack of D options on the market period, the team just doesn't go for a stopgap rental on the backend (Eg, Jokiharju), and really invest in a high-end 3C with term. Shane Pinto is a really interesting buy-low candidate to me. Other candidates include JT Compher and Ryan Strome.

It seems that I may be in the minority here but I speak from experience as someone who has lived in Ontario for almost 30 years now (my god!), who wears Canucks gear often when I go out and who attends almost every Canucks-Leafs game in Toronto (I'll be there for the one this season as well). Ontario fans love Sundin. They absolutely hate Burrows. If your goal is to irritate Leafs fans, it absolutely has to be the Burrows jersey. Trust me - standing up and cheering a Canucks goal with the Burrows jersey will cause rage amongst the Leafs faithful. With a Sundin jersey, you will probably get some friendly comments about good ol' Mats and perhaps a lament that he did not finish his career in Toronto. But you won't get hatred.

With Demko rumored to be practicing again - wonder if we flip a goalie to Columbus in a package? Foote and Gonchar would be amazing for Jiricek.

Silovs, Hoglander, a depth D and a pick? Is that Raymond, Ballard and a 2nd all over again?

For Jiricek and Sillinger or Voronkov.

I think it’s fair but Columbus fans won’t think so. Although there’s probably much better proposals out there. The main catch is Sillinger/Voronkov imo. With Monahan and his 5 years, Fantilli, Voronkov, and recent 4th OA Lindstrom down the middle as soon as next season, one of Voronkov/Sillinger realistically becomes expendable.
