No one actually knows anything but the NYR make the only logical sense for JT atm.

But ZiB seems out of the question unless their is retention and major other pieces (Cuylle, KAM, 1st).

Why would NYR make the "only logical sense" for Miller? Other than being drafted by them and being traded by them, does he have some sort of attachment to New York?

Mainly because JT has a NMC and can dictate where he goes to.

Coupled with he wants to win, Rags needing a big change and trade fit with Van, it seems like the only logical one.

Nowhere else really fits all that criteria.

RE: Zibanejad
I think the Canucks would love to add Mika Zibanejad as a third center in the role that they envisioned for Elias Lindholm—but probably only if they could get him retained at 25-50% of the cost. If New York was looking to unload that contract and Vancouver was looking to add a player I could see them get creative around that concept. That feels like an Allvin/Rutherford move.

But, I cannot believe for a second that they would swap Miller for Zibanejad just to put him in their top-six. Given how real Zib's offensive cliff seems to be—that would only close the window of this roster. That doesn't seem like a Allvin/Rutherford move at all.

RE: Miller's NMC
If they want to move JT Miller and they feel that his NMC could be an issue—they ought to wait until the trade deadline when a more clear contender comes calling. If a bona fide US contender like Colorado or Carolina come calling I don't think that he would hesitate to waive.

Yes, this is pretty logical. Miller probably would waive for the Rangers, who are also looking to make a move. It's just connecting the dots, really. I would not be enthusiastic about a Zib return unless it was retained, included a first-rounder, and included an appropriate NHL defenseman.

Easier to trade Petey.

Detroit, Nashville, Montreal, Columbus, Buffalo, Chicago, Flyers. Could give Van parts to get by with, more developed prospects and picks.

Parroting things I'm seeing on Twitter (everyone wait on Vector for an accurate summary!) - but apparently on his 32 Thoughts Podcast, Friedman had a bunch to say.

He said if Zibanejad was what the Canucks wanted for Miller, it would already have been done. He feels certain the Canucks like Schneider, but he's pretty convinced the Rangers wouldn't do it. He said that there's concern from the Canucks that if they deal Miller, the rest of the room is too quiet and not vocal enough.

Sure, I know he controls the conversation with his NMC, I just didn't understand why New York is the only place he would be compelled to go? It just seems like this is more of a New York wants Miller than Miller wants New York sort of thing...I thought I had read somewhere that Miller and his family wanted to stay in Vancouver, and its not like he has to go.

Zibanejad’s on-ice numbers fell off massively last year and haven’t rebounded this year. Good chance he is cooked at this stage.
That spitball offer at the end sucks, imo. We're essentially taking on two salary dumps in Cizikas and Engvall with term for a middling 1st and, admittedly, a good young RHD.
That Islanders pick is 5th overall right now. That’s a package I think you’d have to look long and hard at - the first can likely get you a quality young centre on top of Dobson as a return.

I think it’s a pretty good offer without Engvall.

I view him closer to a cap dump. While he may not be one yet, I don't see him being a C anymore, thus his cap hit/length doesnt make sense.
He'd probably have to play wing, which might work out beside Pettersson, but would still leave a hole at C in our top 6. If that's the main piece coming back it's a bad trade

Thoughts on the Canucks
  • Biggest reason for all of this unrest is that the entire organization felt that last year’s success would get everyone to realize that when they pull in the same direction is a pretty formidable team
  • Understands that both Pettersson and Miller hates this kind of attention
  • The other people around Pettersson & Miller think this is a big deal; both have been told they need to figure this out and it just hasn’t happened
  • Miller has not asked for a trade
  • Thinks Miller might consider things if they were presented to him but the Canucks would have to go to him; he’s not asking for a trade right now
  • People are question if the Canucks are really serious about trading Pettersson
  • Last comparison to the Pettersson situation is Jack Eichel; not the same personalities but talent-wise are similar
  • Does think they have talked to other teams about both Pettersson and Miller but prefer to keep both
  • Canucks are listening and Allvin & Rutherford are not afraid
  • Price for either would be enormous
  • In a perfect world would love Pettersson to adopt a little bit of Miller’s personality and for Miller to dial it back a bit and adopt a little bit of Pettersson’s
  • Is convinced that, with Pettersson, they have an expectation for him to be the best player on and off the ice and he’s not there yet
  • When you’re the best paid player, teammates look to you
  • Canucks think Pettersson is not invested enough
  • Take Miller’s personality out of that room and you are altering the chemistry of the room too much; don’t have anyone else like him
  • Hughes & Boeser are quiet; Hronek can be really caustic but doesn’t speak a lot
  • “Even though they may end up trading [Miller], there is some concern
  • that there won’t be anyone around, a top player, who pushes people like Miller does.”
  • Thinks Tocchet’s just frustrated
  • At the end of the day, everyone is frustrated because last year they thought it was over; now it’s back and they are tired of this
Trade Stuff
  • If (he says IF twice and emphasizes it) Miller agrees to get traded it won’t be in Canada
  • Does think the Rangers are interested in Miller and doesn’t know how easy the match would be
  • If the Canucks wanted to acquire Zibanejad, that could have already been done, so isn’t banking on that
  • Can see the Canucks really liking Schneider but isn’t convinced at all that the Rangers would trade him; pretty convinced they wouldn’t and they want to keep him
  • Would be a line-up of teams for Pettersson
  • Hasn’t look at how it would work but off the top of his head, names the Blackhawks as a possible team for Miller

If you're Lankinen do you really sign in Van? As along as Demko is here he's the #1. Canicks are a mess, our two top forwards are a no show and fight with each other. Canucks are trending downwards. I think if Lankinen keeps this level of play up, he's going to have options
I don't see Demko coming back, his best days are long gone and he's way too injury prone.
