I don't see why that would have to happen. To wit, we have no clue what the BTS are looking like. I don't think this is a core issue, more as it is, a time-sensitive matter.

I think JT really feels the crunch of father time and is anxious. I feel for that. When you're a player of that calibre, you don't just want to win but contribute meaningfully to that end. It's why Ryan Kesler left and we didn't end up saddled with his legacy contract. He did us the biggest favour and we hated him for it. But that's my personal vendetta as a Kesler truther.

I'm not sure what's going on with the rest, or what. It's funny seeing someone a couple months older than you become the fiery leader you probably hated as a younger player. But to me, you don't get the right to be upset with anyone else on the team if you have more to give and are holding it back. You don't get to set the example, and then break it when someone else isn't.

If he continues this way, it'd be a crime if he didn't make Hart finalist. Almost as bad as giving the 2009-10 Selke to Datsyuk because Datsyuk. Though, it is appalling Burr never made Selke finalist. I can understand him not winning outright as a winger, but that bias has always been weighted improportionately.

He's a winger fit, but perhaps not the best roster fit with the remaining cash, I agree. This team desperately needs defense more.

You made the right connection between Bjorkstrand and Boeser, imo. The posters that don't like Boeser are the same that wouldn't like Bjorkstrand. But if Boeser's resurgence has taught us anything, to judge that archetype as valueless is to immediately throw that opinion in the garbage. (I recognize you've qualified it to say "he's not horrible")

Last year alone, Miller and Boeser received a higher percentage of Ozone starts than Bjorkstrand, but gave up a higher xGA/60 as well (3.14, 2.78 to 2.29). He generally outperforms McCann and Beniers in this regard too (2.38 and 2.78. Also Ozone merchants because they are scorers, just as with most teams' top line). Finally, his On-Ice SV% has been .993 and .894 in the two years prior, so his +/- should be better than it is.

Boeser and Bjorkstrand both create a differential without being defense first players. It's just as important, if not in the traditional sense of viewing the game.

Are you seriously comparing the results of a finesse winger in his prime years getting favorable deployment to when Detroit threw hilariously hard minutes (~24/g) at a kid on his ELC? deployment matters.

Or it might have looked like the last 4 games too. They got 1 point more the last 4 compared to the 4 he missed.
The way Tochhet has structure the system there is no doubt he was missed. But he is only one player if he is missed that much there is a real problem with the entire team.
One way to think of his absence is, sounds silly but, he misses half of every game. :D

Another way to look at it is that the offence is dependent upon him. If they can hold water while he is "missing half of a game", they have a good chance of winning. He is in on nearly 40% of the scoring, more if you include when he is on the ice but doesn't get a point when they score.

Obviously if Francis does something dumb (or really likes Hoglander) then the story changes.

And one would have to assume that the team only moves Boeser if we fall out of contention heading into the TDL. Otherwise you're really f***ing around with team chemistry and that is a dangerous game IMO.

Yea it would definitely require Bjorkstrand to be moved at a lower cost which probably isn’t very likely.

That said, if the team decides they aren’t going to re-sign Boeser, I absolutely believe he will be shopped and likely moved unless the team goes on a heater and ends up in the top half of the conference by the trade deadline.

a heater is possible. The Canucks are close to as healthy as they have been all season. No excuses now. Tonight would be a good time to start.

I never hated him for wanting to move, what I hated was the return. Benning made the move too soon, they went for quantity rather than quality. They didn't HAVE to trade him then, they had all year and I don't think he had a clause, I know the "owned" marketing media said that but they aren't the league. That statement by them took a lot of pressure off the team's darling Linden and Benning.
But I totally agree. Miller knows way more about the direction of the team so his discontent will surface considering his personality. If he looks calm it could be the look of resignation and acceptance of the inevitable. Not going to hurt himself spinning his wheels, not get overly emotional.

Deployment makes a huge difference.
Look at all the players that get PP time, they all have increased scoring stats.
Boeser was a big benefactor of Horvat and Kuzmenko's trades.
When he wasn't on the 1rst PP he got 18g and 55pts the next year 40 g and 73pts.
He also started playing with Miller full time.

I forgot he even existed...Yeah, Klingberg is probably as washed as washed can be...but at the cost of zero assets and the right amount of money (ie any buriable amount of money), I'll see what he's got left in the tank...he only has to last as long as it takes to get Willander in the lineup, or a body back in a trade. I mean, how much worse can he be than Juulsen? And if he is, off to the AHL with him, no loss there...but im sure someone will give him more than he's worth.

He had hip resurfacing surgery (same as Patrick Kane). If it was successful and most of his mobility was restored, why wouldn't someone sign him to a 1 year contract at less than $1.15MM? If he works, you have an offensive play driver from the back end that might help you. If he doesn't work out, he goes on waivers and his cap hit is gone. zero downside.

  • Roughly 5-7 teams looking at him
  • Decision should be made in the next couple of weeks
4 Nations Rosters & Effect on the Trade Deadline
  • Not a lot of injuries on the Team Canada Roster
  • Assumption is Auston Matthews will play for Team USA
  • Concern over Linus Ullmark’s injury for Team Sweden
  • GMs looking at the tournament as a soft deadline for trades; want to get the trades done before the tournament starts
  • Can make roster transactions during the tournament; NHL and NHLPA didn’t even consider whether there should be a roster freeze
Canucks
  • It’s quiet on all fronts with Miller & Pettersson
  • NHL parity is making it difficult to find a trade partner
  • Some sellers waiting to see if anything will happen with Miller & Pettersson

Patrick Kane was an elite winger in his prime and still showed elite talent when he was injured.

John Klingberg relied on his mobility to bail his ass out of terrible situations cause he was a total dunce defensively. You pretty much already have a better defenseman in Erik Brannstrom who is now down in Abbotsford.
 
Klingberg was caught holding the bag, and now he’s going to try and bamboozle a team into signing him for something absurd like $3.75M and play like a #6D
