It's going to be hilarious when the sources end up being correct and Elias Pettersson (D) ends up being traded.

Reporters - "Can you confirm you're gauging the market for Elias Pettersson?"
Allvin - "Yes, we are gauging the market for Elias Pettersson."
Reporters - "WOW....wait...which Elias Pettersson are you talking about?"
Allvin - "...which Elias Pettersson are you talking about?"

Vancouver Canucks (Chris Johnston)
  • Pretty heightened sensitivity around the Miller & Pettersson rumours
  • Strong sense that trade conversations remain active on both Pettersson & Miller
  • Canucks want to gauge the marketplace on both players
  • In regards to Pettersson, seems the Canucks are serious about moving him; multiple teams are believed to have interest
  • A 3rd party source has confirmed that the Hurricanes and Canucks did have conversations about Pettersson last season; calls it a logical landing place now
Tocchet (Pierre LeBrun)
  • His contract expires at the end of the season
  • Canucks have a team option but Tocchet has the right to decline
  • Not pointing out that LeBrun thinks there’s something going on
  • In the scope of all the drama in Vancouver, it’s something worth filing away
Toronto Maple Leafs (Darren Dreger)
  • Looking for a centre but not the high-priced category
  • Dreger calls Brock Nelson “interesting”
  • Names Ryan Strome, Ryan O’Reilly, Mikael Granlund, Yanni Gourde, & Nick Bjugstad
  • Scott Laughton name is out there but want a 1st round pick in return
Contract Deferrals (Pierre LeBrun)
  • League is not a big fan of deferred contracts
  • Ducks kept the league informed of how they were structuring the contract
  • Real chance the NHL tries to close the door on deferred payments in the next CBA and LeBrun thinks the NHLPA would be amenable to that
IIHF World Cup (Darren Dreger & Chris Johnston)
  • Latest IIHF world cup proposal to the NHL & NHLPA was deemed unacceptable
  • IIHF says an event in February 2028 is too disruptive but Dreger says the NHL & NHLPA are “stuck” on that month
  • The league is okay hosting the World Cup without IIHF involvement
  • IIHF will make a decision on letting Russia participate in Olympic events next month; IIHF leader has publicly said that the war in Ukraine must end before Russia is allowed in the next Olympics

I’m betting your first born son that Pettersson is traded.
Lol!.....Pettersson and somebody's 'first born' traded in the same week. ...but I think your child is safe....I agree with you.....Pettersson is simply now priced out of the market for most teams.

Miller & Pettersson
  • League sources have confirmed that the Canucks are listening on both Miller & Pettersson
  • This doesn’t mean either player will be moved but that the Canucks are talking to teams on each player is “not nothing”
  • Canucks are not looking for futures package involving either player
  • “Apples-for-apples transaction”
  • Canucks value both players very highly
  • Miller to the Rangers is a rumour that won’t go away but LeBrun hasn’t been able to confirm it
  • Miller has not asked for a trade and the Canucks have not asked him to waive his NMC
  • Chris Johnston reports that the Hurricanes have talked to the Canucks about Pettersson
Rick Tocchet
  • Just pointing out his contract situation
  • Canucks have a team option but his understanding is that it’s a mutual option and Tocchet would have to pick up his end as well if the Canucks elect his option year
  • Coaches work to the end of their contracts frequently

I should note, everything is contradictory with these insiders. One says their sources say they don't think the Canucks are serious about Pettersson. Johnston's says they are serious. Others say no it's Miller getting traded.
It's as if they don't know squat but by saying random believable things they make us click, watch, and rewatch. Well, it is their job, really.

Apples-to-Apples sounds awful and lends to the assumption neither will get dealt.

I don't think you dismiss a handshake deal that easily...if he was grossly negligent or causing problems that are outside the bounds of the person who signed the deal, sure that's a different story...but just because he's slumping I don't think you dishonor yourself and any agreements you make in good faith.

He’s been slumping for a year now and he doesn’t see, to care much and it’s hurting the club. IMO that’s on him

Call me old fashioned—but, if I had just spent $92.8m on someone to do a job and they laid a turd in my living room instead, I don’t think I’d be too concerned that I was the one acting in bad faith.

I have to hope that the renewed reports that Pettersson is on the block are only out there to pressure Drury into ponying up properly for Miller. (Ie. The intent has been to trade Miller all along).
