I hadn't heard this before but Sat mentioned on H&B about Pettersson that although he doesn't have a true no trade clause/ no movement clause in the first year of his deal (cba) the team did make him a "handshake deal" they either wouldn't trade him in the first year or he would be heavily involved in any sort of trade if it did come to that.

Outside of Hughes and Demko, every contract on this team now has been signed or traded for by this management team.

While they deserved an A+ last year for finding 3 guys to play behind Hughes/Hronek/Myers, they equally deserve an F this year for failing to address the blue line in any adequate way.

It’s crazy to me to hear Alvin go off on Petey for the lack of prep while also not blaming themselves for not improving the blue line. You can’t have public accountability in one department without the other.

This doesn't make sense to me. He can't honestly answer questions about Petey without throwing himself and the other players under the bus?

I think some commentary and constructive criticism of Petey in this form could definitely have been warranted. If even to set the level of public expectation and alarm. Petey certainly didn't shy away or take great offence. We can all see the problems with the construction of the team. I'm sure they are aware of it and would acknowledge it if asked, as would be Petey's right. Although I'm sure most players and personnel would be careful not to insult their teammates or give cause to derail the team.

One challenges the effort and performance of the player while the other undermines the team itself.

Nonis had the exact same arrangement with Luongo.

Been on the acquire Dumoulin train for awhile.

Makes sense for alot of reasons: pending UFA, fairly low cap hit, still only 33, Pens connection, ability to play Top 4 minutes.

Acquisition cost should be lower than others as well.
Honestly I'd want the Canucks to acquire him ASAP if the cost isn't comically high, which it might be based on the current D market.

See how he holds up in our system and with the D partners he would get. If he struggles, then you have time to make another trade for a LD before the deadline.

I'd dangle Brannstrom as a trade piece as well since I don't think Tocchet and company are a huge fan of him, nor do I think they want two undersized D in the lineup at the same time.

Dumoulin is another Dekeyser.

He's totally cooked. Injuries in 2019 and 2022 did a number on his footspeed and he looks so slow and laboured out on the ice despite his above average hockey sense.

This team really needs to save any assets for a legitimate top 4 guy. Last thing we need is to target another Eric Weinrich.

IMO that handshake deal is off the table given his play for the last year. You can’t sign a deal like that then disappear and think we honour that. He got that deal because he was a top player in the NHL.

I don't think you dismiss a handshake deal that easily...if he was grossly negligent or causing problems that are outside the bounds of the person who signed the deal, sure that's a different story...but just because he's slumping I don't think you dishonor yourself and any agreements you make in good faith.

yeah Drury is like leaking shit left and right. Not sure why he thinks that would be effective.
he's been pretty unimpressive, honestly and obviously flailing and doing these leaks because no one wants to do business with someone who insists on premium prices for his stinky leftovers.

the funny thing is he could probably come to a fair deal with Rutherford and Allvin if he got his head out of his ass.

yeah leaking they offer Z for Miller doesn't really hurt us, all it does is throw Z under the bus, good for him i guess?

Any time I hear about Drury, it’s about him overvaluing his own players, undervaluing players he wants, or straight up disrespecting his own team. Hilarious at this point.

Carolina also seems to drive a really hard bargain.

There's no denying his footspeed isn't what it used to be, but he's been forced to do a lot of a heavy lifting when it comes to tough defensive matchups this season and hasn't done a bad job of it.

This team is in desperate need of a shakeup a month ago, and maybe another experienced vet in the locker room could be good.

And like I said, only go after him if the cost isn't ridiculous. It might end up only being a temporary stop-gap for a bigger trade closer to the deadline.

I think the issue is Drury has not shown whatever he is doing actually leads to him winning any trades. Seems like all it does is just locks him out of making any deals.

That game last night - if a decision maker watched JT, that’s the first time we’ve seen last season’s version this year.

And you remember that this is a guy who is so unique. Not many guys who can lead a forecheck with as much pace and physicality as he can, while having that offensive instinct to make things work, and the ability to match up against a guy like McDavid — and do well in that role.

Last season was so fun man. Sigh.

Chris Johnson on TSN " Sources say Canucks are serious about trading Pettersson"

oh god
If Allvin was serious about trading Pettersson, he'd have done it last year before he signed him to that monster extension. Word was, he had a potential deal on the table with Carolina for Necas, Kotkaniemi and/or Jarvis.

If he can trade that $11.7m contract now, he'd be the GM equivalent of Harry Houdini. I put zero stock in anything Chris Johnson comes up with.
