I'm not looking for the media to be on any "side"...report about the team, the players, coaches, management, ownership...good and/or bad, you aren't there to make the fanbase feel better or worse, you're there to bring a perspective. Up until about the last year and a half, I think fans have been treated to nearly a decade of absolute crap from ownership on down, and the media (who are generally fans themselves) have had ample low hanging negative fruit to write about, and they have...when the negatives outweigh the positives that's what you're going to get, and when the positives outweigh the negatives the stories will become a little more upbeat. If you want 24/7 positive press watch Canucks.tv hits or read/listen to IMac because thats about all they offer, but I don't think its reflective of the reality of this organization. You can crap on Drance, a lot of people like to because he has strong takes on the team, but for the most part I think he's generally fair and intelligent in his assessments of the team...doesn't mean he's always accurate or that I agree with him, but he's generally someone who makes fair or reasonable points.

By all accounts they're looking more for a Hronek type of trade, not a rental which is the right call. This team is no position to be trading for expiring UFA contracts which sucks since this a probably a wasted year of Hughes at half price.

I'm not sure what you mean by "improvements" or "quality"? What does improved writing or questions look/sound like? I mean, these guys are just asking what's being discussed around the team/radio/internet...I'm not sure what people are looking for? If there are rumors of discord amongst teammates they're not doing their jobs if they don't raise the questions to try and get to the bottom of it, if the players get bitchy about it they must be hitting a nerve. I really don't understand what people are looking for with the media, confirmation bias? Happy water cooler talk? Breaking down individual plays into boring minutiae? I'm happy to have the media, here in Texas you barely get any hockey media...they'd rather talk about high school volleyball than hockey.

I mean look at the scrum with Miller the other day where he was just wasting everyone's time answering the same stupid questions. Once again the reporter just goes right at him accusing him and Petey of being in a rift like a 5 year making up questions for his cute little pseudo interview. Like c'mon there has to be something of substance you can think of and not just the lowest hanging fruit imaginable. What crap coverage in every aspect. There is more to the Canucks then that. Much more I would be interested in hearing about like relative and unique player information that isn't just regurgitated from blowhards online.

And the night before you have the coach and captain openly discussing there's an issue between the two. Miller was requested after that game and went MIA. You think he's not going to be asked about it?

I don’t think Buffalo has a clue what they are doing or what to do with the current team.

So the only way I see Byram moving is in a larger, franchise altering deal.

KAM seems much more obtainable and would be a great addition.

I could definitely see Borgen, who's only 27 and earning just over $2.7m a season. He's a good sized (6'3, 210) d-man, who's a valuable right shot, shut-down kind of defender.

Having more trouble understanding why the Canucks would have interest in Gourde, who's now 33 and earning just north of $5m a season......although he is an impending UFA, so he'd strictly be a rental. And while he's a center, it seems to me the Canucks have plenty of smaller forwards on their roster already.

They have been trying to offload that elf Krug for a couple of years now.

Also I think you have to look at their upcoming games. The Canucks are vulnerable for the 2nd WC spot now and they play them twice, if they win that is 4 points closer, they play Anaheim 3 times, Chicago 3 times, Preds 4 times, all very winnable games. Canucks don't.
Canucks have 24 games yet versus top playoff teams, half the remainder vs the top 10 teams then there are the ones ahead of them or close in the standings like the Kraken, Utah, Columbus even Calgary. The Kraken might do it, at one time they had ALL their NHL dmen out injured.

In another month, 12+ games for most teams, the writing will be on the wall, chiseled into cement only a few might roll the dice back east because some PO teams games in hand and trail by 5 pts.

Out in the western conference there are 5 teams within 5 points and Vancouver not having more than 2 games in hand.

And now the next game can be expected to be played without Pettersson or Hughes as they didn't take practice today and tomorrow's game is very early.

That is because in an Athletic article by Pierre LeBrun and Chris Johnston they match good fits for the best available players. Chris Johnston picked Yanni Gourde and Will Borgen tot he Canucks. Neither are being reported as the Canucks being interested in or actual trade rumours.
