Hmm I like the thought process but what I don't like is:

Agreed age is a concern but he will not be finishing his contract and it helps us get away from VD and HOG.

Money would be a wash

Drop his minutes a bit, shelter him on the second pair and I think he would do well. I see nothing to complain about on his over all production. And then you have a v capable puck moving Dman to play w the EP or Miller line.

Too many character issues with DeAngelo.
That's my first thought as well but given our position we really needed some more puck movement from the back end or just better dmen as right now we have 4 or 5 bottom paring dmen in the lineup.

meyers is an acceptable 4th guy but he needs the right guy to play with so our 2-6 with Hronek out is one of the worst in the league.

But I agree, Canucks D-man development have been atrocious. Even in Hughes case, he went straight from college to NHL. The last one that was drafted, developed and made the team was Guillaume Brisebois!

There's hope for the new draftees from this regime but it will be a long time before they contribute to the current squad.
I think we have 3 or 4 in the system but sure the timeline is the problem.

Allvin and Rutherford have unfortunately made a series of errors in judgment, which have largely undone the progress from last season. The defence is a f***ing shitshow. Even making the playoffs is questionable as it stands, nevermind actually contending. This is a slow, boring, ineffective hockey team, being coached by someone who is hitting their ceiling.

Unfortunately, I think we're seeing the final days of this core remaining intact. Something happened between Miller and Pettersson a few months ago that has turned what seemed like a fairly tight locker room into a dysfunctional mess.

At no point should they even consider trading an unprotected 1st, because this could easily go off the rails with the bulk of our remaining schedule being challenging hockey. Chalk this up as a down year, trade some players to recoup draft picks (as they are seeing the effects of several consecutive poor drafts) and make way for players like Willander and Lekkerimaki to take the next step. They should be able to turn Lankinen into a solid asset as well.

Like we all feared, last year was their chance and they let it slip.

yeh never mind, f*** that

I prefer Letangs history of production, leadership, strengths and being a 3x cup Champ over Zad. Plus Letangs strength on the ice are what we need. A 2nd pairing puck mover to support the EP line.

And in my proposal the money is wash. Hog and VD are dead money. You’re creating value on the ice and not add cap.

Counterpoint:

You can't afford to waste any year of Quinn Hughes current deal. Even if the result is similar to last year (or worse) you're showing Hughes a commitment to winning that will hopefully influence him re-upping after this contract.

The team isn't far off. I've long said Hronek returning and a move for another top 4 defender changes things dramatically. That first round pick should be gone asap.

Goaltending is dialed. The forward group is deep. We're getting sewered because of the defense.

I thought EP was more likely to be traded but after last night's game I'm thinking more and more its going to be Miller moved before too long, this situation seems more untenable the longer it goes.

NMC will be a factor but several teams should show enough interest for a very good return. Both NY teams maybe, CBJ, BUF, etc.

Another semi ugly loss against the sharks practically ensures somethings going to happen asap, Ruthervin doesn't play around.

I wonder if they will be hesitant to add to this group with the drama going on? Obviously need at least one addition (probably two) on defense, but how sure are you that the forwards won’t continue to be dysfunctional and then you just waste more futures etc. and the team still sucks.

In the same vein of not wasting Hughes' window, whatever the hell is going on with this Miller/Pettersson situation that is causing a huge tonal/vibe shift needs to be resolved in tandem with fixing the D-core.

Feel like we're in such a weird spot with very likely walk-on improvement in Willander not available to us until very late in our season.

I feel like the Bruins would be salivating over JT.

I would LOVE to get Mason Lohrei in a package.

Yup I agree. The two things can work together, a trade of EP or JT (i lean JT) The target can be a top 4 defender.

Use the first in that trade or for a 2/3 center.

Or you take a chance on the drama being manageable until the team starts winning.

I think this is probably the way, I'm not sure how you expend legitimate assets at all with the risk that the Pettersson/Miller drama continues.

JT seems to be the common factor when I hear about rifts within the room. It was him with Horvat, Boeser and now Petey. At some point, the Bozo comes back.

Cutting ties with him now would be a smart move if someone bites. He's still performing at near his contract and not yet slipping.

But it's got to be a young d-man on a solid contract that comes back.

This is essentially where I'm getting to as well.

There's something in the way Miller plays when he's in bozo checked out mode that I think drags the team down even more than when Petey is in his mental slumps (which he somehow snaps out of when Miller isnt playing???), combined with the relative ages of the players and IMO the ability for many contenders to bid on an 8MM Miller.

Love both of these players...when they are playing up to their potential and pulling in the same direction, but hitting a point where two techtonic plates are slamming against each other and there needs to be a release of energy one way or another.

Good stuff here.

The broad strokes are fine, but it would come off a lot better if it didn’t stink of so much sour grapes that Petey was annoyed with him at the persistent line of questioning. And also, it’s not Petey, or Miller, or any of the players’ fault that Aquilini decided to Jack up ticket prices and gouge the shit out of Vancouver consumers.

Uncomfortable questions are fine. But repeatedly asking the same uncomfortable question and expecting every player to react like Daniel and Henrik Sedin with infinite f***ing patience is also kind of stupid.

The Drury aspect is certainly valid..

Feel like they try to pawn zib on us, but I'd be trying for Laf & Schneider too. Doubt you get both and probably more like Schneider and Chytil, would need an additional Cuylle like plus imo.
If you can’t get Laf, I’d go for an assets package.

KAM/Schneider, Cuylle, Othmann + NYR 2025 unprotected 1st.

Use some of the assets to target a younger C in Wright or Kulich.

If Schneider is acquired, I can still see mgmt going after Byram.

I'd be into picking up Trocheck (becomes FOW demon 2C with good physicality, ones less year of term and 2.4MM less per year, same age) + one of their D (Miller/Schnieder), just don't think that would be feasible.

Agree about the whininess of the article in general, but EP really didn't do himself any favors here...Granted it can't be easy dealing with the media on a day-to-day basis, but you really need to compose yourself better than EP did...getting pissy about a relatively easy question to dance around is pretty telling that there is something bigger going on that he is uncomfortable with and the media is going to keep digging to find out more and he is feeding it by being pretty hostile about it.

Would’ve been much better to do a gradual price increase - the empty seats are so noticeable this year. I get the resale market was probably hot last year, but they gambled on the team doing just as well last year and it’s been a massive miss, to say the least.

All things considered I thought the article was fine. Knowing the background makes it sound harder on Petey, but honestly both him and Miller deserve the heat right now. Your coach and captain call it an issue, and both have refused to face the music.
