Unfortunately the coach seems to have set off this entire chain of events by tasking Miller to "toughen up" Pettersson.

The only way it out of this might be to fire the coach and put Miller in the player's assistance for an extended time. If the team is in a playoff spot when he comes back you see if you can re-integrate him. If not, you trade him.
What TF are you talking about?

The team can't just put Miller into the program.

At this point I doubt it would take more than a nudge.
it's an absurd suggestion and would never happen. In addition to making a mockery of that program (it's designed to accommodate actual mental health and substance abuse crisis'....not a dumping ground for players that don't play nice with a teammate), it would be orders of magnitude more messy than simply trading him.

If he and Pettersson can't co-exist to the point one needs to go and they want to keep Pettersson, i highly doubt they'd need to do anything other tell him that and work with him on finding a new home. despite the situation, there would likely be plenty of interest.

This is a player that had to take a month off for related reasons. He appears to need more treatment and this is the mechanism that the CBA lays out.

In fact taking a month long mental health break without going into the program is what is unprecedented. It's never happened before as far as I can tell.

Funny how the floor hockey crowd suddenly, based on speculation only, want to fire Tocchet. Who exactly will replace him?

That is a great question, and an indictment of management that there is nobody on the staff who you could imagine being a capable fill in.

But still, if Tocchet f'd up so bad that one of the team's core players needs to be traded, it's hard to imagine he'd have the credibility in the room to continue.

Screw both EP and JT.

Trade #1
Miller to NYR for Lafreniere, Schneider + 2025 or 2026 1st

Trade #2
EP to CBJ for KJ, Sillinger + Mateychuk

Lafreniere-Johnson-Boeser
DeBrusk-Sillinger-Garland
Joshua-Suter-Sherwood
Sasson-Blueger-Heinen
Hoglander

Hughes-Schneider
Soucy-Hronek
Forbort-Myers
VD

Demko
Lankinen

Still leaves room for Hoglander and VD trade but removes the elephants in the the room.
Stay outta those Christmas cookies..

Theirs only 3 teams I would trade EP to:

Sabres for Tage + Byram

Kings for Byfield and Clarke

Canes for Jarvis and Nikishin

50% of the posters think EP 40 has a chronic injury that prevents him from being as productive as he could be. Whats age matter when the younger one is already breaking down?
I think if this was offered it would be done by now tbh.

heck

The struggles of the team’s two star centres stand out, especially when Ilya Mikheyev, who the Canucks dumped on the Chicago Blackhawks over the summer, has scored as many five-on-five goals this season as Miller and Pettersson combined.

“I don’t think it’s necessarily those two particular guys mentioned that are struggling, other guys that are supposed to be top guys that are struggling too,” Allvin said.

“It’s one thing to be a star on a mediocre team. It’s one thing to be a star on a good team,” he said. “That was the message from the coach, too: embrace the hardness.”

“It’s finding the consistency every night when your expectations are higher. That’s tough. That’s how you prepare yourself. The preparation is not about being good in October, November. The preparation is about being good in February, March and April, May and June. I think that’s something new for a lot of our players,” Allvin said. “In Vancouver, for years they didn’t get into the playoffs.”

“It’s my expectation that those guys, they’re going to carry our team. If they don’t, well it’s hard to win,” he said of the likes of Miller and Pettersson — and Hughes and Boeser and Garland and DeBrusk, and so on.

“I mean, we’re always looking to see what’s out there and available,” he said as to whether he thinks he’ll need to make a trade to change up the top end of his group. “I’m always interested in making this team better.”

“At the end of the day, you are only going to go as far as your leadership group is leading,” he said. And it’s not about points, it’s about mentality.
“Look at Jake Eichel, what’s his point totals? (He’s a point per game.) But his lead is playing the right way and it’s leading them to championships,” he said.

“The fun part in pro sports is winning. When you’re playing the right way and prepare yourself and winning hockey games, everybody wants to do that.”

Tell Miller and Pettersson if they can't get along, or at the very least act professional, they will have to watch the videos of the 2016-21 Canucks including coach and Benning press conferences Clockwork Orange style

Really hope that these 2 can figure it out. We need both of them if we want to contend.

I have no idea what the heck is going on, but I'm also certain Friedman is to blame, doing what ever he can in the media to sink the Canucks. It's alllllll due to Friedman and his weird disguises. What's going on Elliot? We know what you're doing, creeping around these boards, causing rifts, creating drama. Booo

We'll blindfold and tie them both in chairs, then force them to listen to Commando Dimbo's incomprehensible gibberish 24/7 for the rest of the year.

I agree with what Allvin is saying here.

He could definitely be looking to make a trade for a top 4 puck mover (which he should), but that's ultimately only going to be patchwork and the core issue will still remain if Miller, Pettersson, and Boeser can't get into gear and start pulling their weight.

It's not an enviable position for Allvin and Rutherford if the core forwards continue to struggle further into the season, forcing them to make some big decisions.

The vibes of the team were decidedly better during the period Miller was gone. They seemed happier, and scrappier even in sluggish games.

Also like...why can't Petey and Miller be on the PP together now? It's just bizarre. Not really helping the situation.
I can't imagine Miller and Pettersson not playing on the first powerplay is because of their feud....I can't imagine Tochett ever countenancing it.

But I actually don't hate the idea, if both Pettersson and Miller are playing at top form. I think when you have Hughes playing as well as he is, and when you have him playing the full two minutes, you can have a deadly combo with Hughes and Pettersson and Hughes and Miller on both powerplays, and perhaps it would lead to an overall better powerplay.

Its definitely not conventional.
