Power, Tuch and Thompson should be the targets from any BUF trade

Pettersson, Hoglander are the likely candidates to be traded.

Desharnais we all know will be dumped somewhere

Matt Sekeres is going in hard on Petey and management right now, interesting stuff.

Mentioned he heard he does not practice well, not the easiest guy to coach, on the most part wants to be left alone, is particular about his linemates.

Not sure if it's his opinion or things he is hearing.

Lots of smoke going on

I need to post this here also, because it's really important imo.

That’s a whole lot of speculation without any facts to back it up.
I’ll even go one step further, look at this shit, this makes me sick.

JT Miller stands up for Quinn Hughes, look at the bench, those are the people that need to be held accountable, not the guy protecting the captain of the team.

If they are making a deal with Buffalo Id rather Power over Byram tbh & I doubt the Sabres want to move on from him

If there was ever any truth to the Petey for Cozens and Byrum deal....I know many Canucks fans dont like it but i would do it.

Good young top 4 d man and a big center who had 31 goals 2 years ago and might do better out of Buffalo.

But the main reason I would do it is to move on from the moody enigma and that albatross of a contract about to kick in for 8 years at 11.6. I dont think Petey is worth more than 9 million for what he puts out. Getting out from under that contract alone would be a win.

Petey, Hoglander and Desharnais for Power and Cozens is the only starting point.

Hughes Hronek
Power Willander

Top 4 could go crazy

I'm not as down on the potential deal, but I certainly don't think the value is there as a 2-for-1...there would need to be more involved for me to feel "good" about it. Cozens is only 23 but his last 2 seasons have been very sub-par and he's making a generous sum of money for that lack of production...and Byram has some real health concerns regarding his concussion history and is one head injury away from some serious career questions...it would be VERY easy to get taken to the cleaners on this deal...I'd hope for another asset and some cap relief in order to get some good feelings about it.

Elliotte Friedman can speculate and it immediately becomes gospel. All he did this morning was speculate and it's led to this stupid buzz.
Theres way to much smoke here, This is not just Friedman, This has been going on for awhile now.

I have no doubt JT Miller and Petey don't like eachother, But I don't believe there is a rift in the locker room with any other players.

I think is a situation where two players just hate eachother, based on so much speculation and smoke.

Also Petey is ON Record during his interview with Friedman on the beach talking about how JT and him don't see eye to eye on some things (paraphrasing).

I think one of them is going to get traded, just don't know which one yet.

If Canucks stick with tochett its 100% Petey, if canucks wanna change it up, JT goes.

Why the f*** would you start Elias Pettersson trade rumours if youre the Canucks. Absolute dumbest shit you could do with a player who is already emotionally/psychologically volatile

Reasonable points.

I would like to get away from Peteys inflated contract though. Who here thinks he should be the 4th highest paid player in the NHL?

Elliot Friedman is not "the Canucks".
I know, Friedman loves stirring up the market here, but now all the local media buffoons are trying to act like this is something that has been leaked or theres smoke coming about it, the Canucks would want an Elias Pettersson trade to be dropped and shock everyone. This is all just Friedge being a shithead

Where we disagree is that I don't think they were ever given "massive" opportunity. I'm not saying they warranted more minutes and better deployment, but I don't think you can honestly say they were given that.

Playing limited NHL minutes their entire NHL time with the new brass doesn't strike me as "massive opportunity". Again, I'm not saying they deserved more. But they didn't get it. Hoglander's average EV TOI per game was in Sam Lafferty territory last season.

Hoglander was playing about 14 minutes/game on a line with Pettersson for most of the 2nd half of last season. When he played well, he was rewarded.

Podkolzin was given more minutes at the close of 21-22 (when he played well) and the start of 22-23 (when he didn't, and played himself down to Abbotsford).

But for the most part these two have both fallen on their faces when given opportunity. The opportunities they have been given have been more than fair. It isn't like either would be handed top unit PP minutes on any other team, or anything like that. Both were middle-6 types given opportunities for 3-4 years and mostly failing. The organization was massively patient with both and I don't think either was treated much differently than if they had been picked by this regime.

Both are just low-IQ players who struggle playing anything more than soft minutes and every coach here ended up in the same place with both.

Darren Dreger's interview with Sekeres & Price.

Canucks
  • Tempers and emotions are high
  • Says the roster freeze is looming on Wednesday night (NHL official dates for the Christmas roster freeze is Friday, Dec. 20th, 12:00am)
  • There are some teams that the insiders are watching very closely but wouldn’t say the Canucks are at the top of the list
  • Knowing Tocchet, you can be sure that he has had a face-to-face conversation with the 4-5 guys he was referring to recently
  • Tocchet and the coaching staff would have gone to management prior to the start of the year with what they felt needed to be improved
  • Relationship between Tocchet and Allvin is top-notch
  • NHL Christmas roster freeze doesn’t really affect how teams are thinking
  • Has been told that there’s nothing going on between Vancouver and Buffalo
Buffalo Sabres
  • Kevyn Adams is feeling the heat
  • New York Rangers have at least done some stuff
  • If there’s a team that is going to do something, it’s the Sabres
  • A lot of teams calling on Bowen Byram
  • Byram probably doesn’t want to stay in Buffalo long-term
Marcus Pettersson
  • Out week-to-week but will have to wait until we know the severity of the injury
Canucks Trade Targets
  • Does not know the exact targets for the Canucks
  • Can be specific that they are looking for a top-4 defenceman and now awinger
  • For a good chunk of this year it felt like they wanted a 3rd line centre but that need has now shifted to a winger
  • Rutherford and Allvin work really really hard
  • As soon as a struggling team blinks, Canucks will be there
  • Guerin learned from Rutherford to make sure that a trade is a fair deal for both teams; when you approach a trade this way you get a lot more GMs talking because they don’t feel like your main objective is to fleece them in a trade
  • Could see change for the sake of change
Miller vs Pettersson
  • Would say that as long as Tocchet is head coach, Miller is the guy
  • Not a knock on Pettersson but more about the style of player Tocchet likes
Cam Fowler
  • Canucks were not a possibility
  • Was told that the Canucks were not among the teams that put in a serious offer
Calgary Flames
  • Will remain patient
  • Flames management believed the team would come back down to earth
  • Goaltending covered up some holes
  • Wait & see with them
  • Doesn’t see a fire sale anytime soon if at all

Bunch of bums. Soft team. Hard to care about the team when the players clearly dont

When you read the smoke signals it seems pretty clear that all levels of the organization are kind of done with Pettersson's act.

No doubt...I love EP when he's on his game, but there are too many nights he's invisible for an $11+m player...I'm ok with moving on from him, but for me it needs to be a deal where if the prices need to match...I don't want to pay Cozens at a 35-goal center valuation and Byram as a healthy top pairing defender and end up selling EP as a distressed asset and not getting full value for him. I'd rather not get Sabred by the Sabres. lol

This is Friedman's business though...he talks hockey and kicks things around like any other hockey fan, he just happens to have a podcast and an infinite amount of hits on radio shows where they talk all things hockey...I don't blame Friedman at all, unless he comes out and says that these teams are seriously talking trade and there is something imminent, its just idle commentary that he's killing time making conversation content for his podcast.
