EP4 and BB6 taking up 20M?

Then what’s Hughes worth? 30-32M on 3 players?

I mean, Rantanen supposedly wants 14M. With MacKinnon at 12.5M and Makar at 9M, Colorado could be paying even more for three players (35.5M). And imagine what Makar demands in three years when his current deal expires. At least whatever we lock Hughes to will likely be the highest we ever pay him.

Point is, with the cap going up, you're paying the better players a lot more. Just how it works out.

Agreed, but Rant and Mack are better than EP and BB.

Hughes and Makar are a wash

Theyre elite talent and ours are very good talent. That has to be reflected in the salaries and over all cap hits for the group

Will the Canucks make a trade before the NHL trade freeze? It might be too late by January 3rd.

If they lose 3 out every 5 games now they might be 6 points back with 3 teams to jump over and they have a harder schedule going forward from there.

To keep in it now they will have to find one of two needed 3/4 dmen for playoff success ASAP.

They lose 2 of the next 3 the season could be done if other teams win 2 out of 3.

They might lose to Florida and Colorado, win against Boston but that could be a toss up, should beat Utah, SJ. The Seattle games might be the deciding factors.

Playing .500 hockey will not get them into the playoff without help, meaning other teams also losing at that rate.

Trade freeze is on December 19, kind of a shitty time to be traded if there is family involved unless there are no kids or a player feels relief, in that case then maybe it is an early present.

Hoglander? Boeser for Jiricek where Boeser is just minutes from home?

I don't think they can wait too long to decide or pull the trigger if there is another loss.

Which it is. MacKinnon signed his gift of a deal three years before Pettersson and Boeser will be anywhere from 5-6M cheaper than Rantanen.

Rant isn't going to be suppressed by Mack. It was Mack's choice to sign for what he did. And this is after he exploded on after year 1 of his last deal. To each their own.

Like you said, cap rising means all player's salaries rise. Teams are not getting extra $6 mill in cap space to sign someone at current prices. When the top guys are due up, they will get more.

Dhaliwal reporting today on the show that he’s heard Deharnais’s name out there. Mentioned he’s heard it from a few sources.

Goes on to say that the Canucks have no issues moving on from guys who don’t work out. I’m paraphrasing but that’s the gist.

Deharnais is slow but also really struggles to move the puck under pressure. Could see a team him on though.

Are we really going to hand wring ourselves over half of a million dollars on a player that the team can't replace? Just pay Boeser, sign him to a long term deal and smile to the bank when the cap goes up by like 20 mil in the next 3 years.
I just don't see what he brings to the team anymore..He hardly hits.skating is awful,go,es for long stretches of not being in the line up..maybe will get 25 goals this season if lucky...Are we signing him because he is Brock Boeser...or dam this guy is a great hockey player...I would be very hesitant to sign this guy long term at all..get what you can for him and move on.

I’d think a bunch of bottom feeder teams would take on Desharnais. Some GMs might even pay a mid pick for him. We should move on this ASAP.

The only reason he is in the NHL right now is because he's 6'7 and GM's get enamoured with size. Too many people pointed to his "success" last season where he looked decent with a team that had career years and were carried by the defensive efforts of their bottom 6 forward group.

Guys with size will and have always gotten more chances than smaller guys. stecher is like 5'10 and has been taking a cheaper contract every time he's been due up since leaving Van. Both RHD, but teams opt for size on the 3rd pairing.

Unless the Dman is young, you don't find small veteran Dmen on a 3rd pairing around the NHL. Unless, they are in Stecher's situation, moving on from team to team as he's treated as a placeholder.

Desharnais
  • Couple of people have told him they’ve heard Desharnais’ name is out there in the trade market
  • Canucks’ management is quick to rectify roster mistakes
  • Will be tough to move him because he has an extra year on his contract

You are signing a .8pts/game player that has pre-existing chemistry with your #1 center.

Where are you going to replace Boeser? Are you going to upgrade with a lateral move on an expiring contract? If you go into FA you are going to overpay for a guy that can maybe do as well as Boeser. The team has no internal replacement ready, this years FA you aren't going to get a player to replace Boeser.

I have no idea why you would let him walk instead of paying him. Also, the cap is going to sky rocket in the next 3 years, 8 million today is not 8 million 3-4 years from now.

All this hand wringing over a few million dollars seems so unnecessary. Sign Boeser and just find some ways to sign some players in FA that can save you a few bucks.

told yall the desharnais experiment was hitting a time crunch. it's basically halfway to the trade deadline. there's next to no runway left.
