Trading picks has worked just fine for this management group. Zadorov and Lindholm helped while they were here but they weren't able to he re-signed and that's fine. The average 3rd round pick will play less games for the Canucks than Zadorov did anyways.

I want the team to acquire rentals because it's better than asking what-if, like in 2011 and 2012. Trade 1sts if you have to, if you can re-sign them that's great, but it's not necessary. The team has a chance to compete for the first time in over a decade so go for it.

I want to win, not gradually accrue mid round picks by trading necessary pieces of this team because I'm scared of career bottom 6ers and backups walking as free agents.
The caveat is that management needs to make better decisions when signing and re signing players so you don’t have to bleed assets just to get rid of them. I applaud Allvin for his shrewd approach and attitude in cutting bait when something hasn’t worked out, but it certainly doesn’t help when you rush to sign guys like Hoglander to multi year extensions.

Zadorov was a massive mistake on Allvin’s part considering we had two chances at signing him at respectable cap hit and term. The saving grace was they used this exact same approach of playing chess and poker to grab Lankinen at a ridiculous below market bargain.

Cuylle would look incredible next to JT and Brock.

But there’s no reason for NYR to trade him.

Still think there’s a decent shot at KAM getting traded but I don’t see the fit between the teams.

Throw me on the go all in crew. You can't waste away a generational talent like Hughes now that he is a top 5 or even 3 player in the world. That means trade and draft picks necessary to aquire a top 4 defenseman.

Agreed with Lemonsauce. Get rid of any high priced bottom paired players who have a decent sized cap hit. Hoglander, Desharnais, Forbort whoever.
Sasson looks NHL ready and has shown great compete. He can fill in for one of the vacated roles.

Willander is obviously in the plans when Bostons season is done. I think he will be signing in Vancouver at the end of his season.

Would of been nice to sign Zadorov for the measly $200,000 he was looking for. I know management wasn't fond of his term but Zadorov for this team like a glove and would of stopped teams like Boston and Tampa take runs at our best player Hughes. This was a major miss by Allvin and our defense would of been much easier to fix today. Now Allvin needs to find another player like Zadorov.

So as for this top 4 defenseman. Make any pick or prospect not named Willander available. Yes I would even make Lekkerimaki available if it brought in a difference making defenseman, such as Hronek. In the bigger picture nothing should be untouchable "other than Hughes" to get a player that may put us over the top.

Going to be tough and I believe Allvin has been working the phones for weeks and is having a problem finding a trading partner, but with teams continuing to fall trades will start to open up.

First and foremost, Hoglander and Desharnais need to go.

Things will get a little more interesting in the next few weeks. I hope Allvin once again surprises us.

Also if available trade for Zadorov back and fix your first major mistake.

Hoglander, Desharnais for Zadorov :sarcasm:

Given Hughes' contract situation, I guess the team probably should go all in. That's what the math says but damn, the foundation looks so shaky. This team frequently has entire games where they have absolutely no energy, can't make a pass, and circle the wagons behind their side of centre with no structured breakouts. So if they do in fact go all in, you actually do it and reshape the defence whatever the cost.

Yeah agreed. They basically HAVE to go all in during this Hughes current contract period, no matter how shaky and how hard it is. There’s no guarantee that Hughes re-signs, and if he leaves, there’s no chance this team is close to watchable for a while.

Watching this season, it’s clear not only the D needs 2 adds, but we also need to add a spark to forwards.

Given the amount of player changes, it’s not bad the results have been mixed.

Lankinen and Sherwood have been home runs.

DeBrusk is on a heater and is exactly what was expected.

Heinen has been fine but overpaid for what he brings.

Forbort hasn’t played enough but if he can play like he did again Florida, that’s a win given his 1yr deal.

VD is a disaster and mgmt knows this. Problem is everyone else knows this and won’t just take him.

Mgmt likely hoped to wait out the market for a dman but that’s growing less and less likely. January seems to be when they are going to do their work.

But if the team is still complete crap at home, January might be too late.

Given the roster freeze, I think VD gets dealt before then.

Hog and other assets dealt in the new year in further deals.

Players are a commodity like wheat or corn. We have a few very high end pieces we should consider trading for a very very bright future.

If EP struggles and somebody wants him. Trade him.

If Demko is outplayed by Lankas and we can add a blue chip trade him.

If Hughes contract is to much or he indicates he wants out, trade him for a haul.

The current team has to many holes on the back end to be a contender and a few players upfront who want or have a lot of money. BB6 at 8M for 8 seasons is an absolute nightmare to think about.

If the management isn’t confident in this roster at TDL ship him out.

Fans have way too much loyalty to players. Yes, Hughes is the best player we may ever had but watching him excel year after year just for us to get eliminated in the 1st or 2nd round doesn’t matter.

Winning needs to be the approach the team and fans take. Not just wanting to have an amazing player and lose year in and year out.

If you truly decide to go all in ... do you make Willander available if you think you can get a top-pairing defender with a bit of term back? After all, each potential trade is just a value proposition and can't be rejected out of hand. If you can get Rasmus Andersson and Kevin Bahl straight across for Willander and a cap dump, do you do it?
