I'd bet they come out and say he's not getting traded.

This would be the best course of action at this point, given how badly they've bungled the PR, but given their PR track record I expect them to do something stupid.

we are so fortunate as a fan base to finally have a generational defenseman, and also have two massively flawed individuals as our top offensive weapons

They had an elite #1 defenceman, elite #1 center, elite #2 center (some might say 1B) and elite #1 goaltender all signed to reasonable contracts at the same time and failed to take advantage of it. The time for this core has passed. We all knew it was last season or bust.

What a wild ride!
Last year came within a game of knocking out Edmonton and probably would have beat them with a healthy Demko. Then who knows what happens although I don’t think anyone was beating Florida.
Now we’re looking at a retool/rebuild on the fly. Miller had high value at the end of last year but clearly management thought we were a team on the rise even with the loss of Lindholm and Zadarov.
Clearly management was wrong.
I think trading Miller is the right decision but I don’t really see how we get to top contender status even with the trade. Our prospect pool is pretty weak and we just don’t have a top core.
The worst part is that we’re wasting the prime years of the guy who will end up as the best Canuck in history.

He’s not getting moved. Allvin’s 2nd major failure of the season. 1st was the disaster of a Defense he created….

Now the Miller / Pete debacle… brutal

At this point I hope so based on the rumored returns. I've lost all faith in this management group.

But now you run the risk of pissing off your generational #1 defenceman who needs to see reasons to commit to this franchise. There's no way he's enjoying leading this team the way things have been going lately, it's a media circus and (by all accounts) a toxic dressing room.

They made him the Captain because they're f***ing desperate for him to stay.

Team under Benning spent too much time screwing around between 2016-2021 trying to "compete" in the final years of the twins and tried to skip the rebuild. Now, JR and PA have to make due with what they have in the system. Just the reality of the situation. That's sadly the weak part of the NHL is that unlike NFL, things can turn around fast via a great draft or 2. But, there you are drafting 21-23 year olds vs 18 year olds whom you are waiting 3-5 years on to develop. NFL limited trades but more free agency.

NHL is something that takes a while. Limited supply of good players.

Miller
  • Received a tonne of pushback from both sides about how close a trade actually was
  • Never a formally request from the Canucks to Miller to waive his NMC
  • Miller probably indicated to the Canucks that the Rangers would be a preferred destination
  • From a Ranger perspective, varying levels of how close a trade came
  • Canucks are ready and willing to make a deal and have been for a couple of weeks now
  • Nothing imminent as of today
  • Doesn’t think the Rangers are moving Braden Schneider; been told they have no interest in moving him
  • Could see K’Andre Miller being traded
  • A number of teams that have followed up since the trade fell apart
  • Would keep a really close eye on the Hurricanes
  • Not an easy transaction any which way
  • Thinks Miller’s list of where he will waive is rather limited

Thankfully Hughes isn't an upcoming UFA. They've got some time.

The one thing that solves almost all problems is winning. The team should be doing everything they can to shake up the defense, including getting another puck mover that Tocchet will actually play. It's what they should have done 2+ months ago after it was obvious from the start this D was complete ass outside of Hughes/Hronek.

It also seems like they could use another level-headed, vocal veteran in the locker room.

It was pretty obviously known when they signed both. Brad Richardson talked about it for Heaven's sake.

I think management's approach at the time is they are both grown ass adults and professionals, they should work it out.

Our management denying the offer from NYR I see as a positive sign - even if a trade is hard to win, if the loss is too great then you should back away.

If in the end no trade can work out. Do you think it's feasible for management themselves to have a mafia style sit down with Miller and Pete?

Throw Toc in there to, basically deliver a very stern message: we're trying to work this out, it will take more time, and if team keeps losing and you two shitheads keep making this worse, you'll only hurt yourselves in the end, which will result in us taking more drastic actions. So grow up and don't force our hand.

From Dhaliwal's opening segment.

Miller
  • Not a coincidence that the trade talks heated up after the Thursday loss; enough was enough

You wonder whether Miller's bounce back game against Edmonton will have decreased this urgency. Maybe they hope he can keep it up until the 4 Nations cup, have a good showing there, and then the market will look a little different.

If they're going to keep him after everything that has happened based on one game against a bitter rival (that someone his type should have zero trouble getting riled up for) they are more delusional than we think.

We aren't playing the Oilers every night. That was his swansong, one final "thank you" to the fans of this city who have chanted his name for years. Odds are he goes right back to Bozo for the next game if they don't trade him.

If he was able to play at that level consistently, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Mistake #1: Signing Mikheyev to a 4 year contract when we needed help on the blueline. Had to use a pick and retain to get rid of him.

Not too bad.

Mistake #2: Signing Kuzmenko to a 2 year extension when it should have been foreseen the coach wouldn't like his style of play.

Again, wasn't too bad in the grand scheme of things. It's just annoying how there was an obvious disconnect between the GM and coach.

Mistake #3, 4, 5: Signing Myers to an extension, and thinking Desharnais, Juulsen and Forbort could round out our blueline.

I'm sorry but this was absolutely inexcusable. It was something right out of Jim Benning's playbook.

This JT Miller saga is now reinforcing the belief that our GM may be a total moron.
