Grubauer on waivers.

That is how burying NHL contracts in the AHL works: puckpedia.com/salary-cap/minimum-nhl-salary-buried-cap-hit

Also, talk is cheap. All "waiving" him does is talking about it. It's not really making any change to the team. Sending him down makes an actual statement.
You think it's just "talking about it" to have him walk into that locker room tomorrow and face the other ~40 players and staff of that team, with having been waived hanging over his head?

That's gotta be uncomfortable af for literally everyone involved. It's definitely an "actual statement".

How the heck does that help the situation though? If I was waived and stuck in the same place as the people who actually caused it, it would be uncomfortable as heck for both sides. Do you think that will actually help the team? I certainly do not.

How in the hell does sending him to CV to steal minutes from Kokko "help the team"?

I am kind of done discussing this topic to death. Kokko may or may not help the team. But what it does is show the players that ownership/management is "trying" something and they understand that the team is NOT going to win with Grubauer.

I am definitely not understanding your line of thought. So Gru gets waived, goes back to the locker room. An already unhappy locker room gets even more uncomfortable. What does that do at all? Do you think Gru getting waived all of a sudden will making him play better than 0.900 hockey?

If you think the statement is that playing poorly will get you waived, but don't worry, you will still be here and we will still play you? What kind of statement is that to the team?

Haven't all of us wanted this? Am I wrong about that?
I did. Though to be honest, I was expecting them to ride this season out and just buy him out in the off-season. So either management/ownership thinks this is at the point that it needs to be done for team/morale even though we are out of the playoffs, or they think they may be able to find a better option and can still focus on winning and making the playoffs (longest shot ever).

That’s fine, I’m kind of done talking in circles about this too. I initially thought I was misunderstanding you but apparently I’m not. It makes no sense to send him to CV. He’s not going to miraculously “find his game”. He’s a sunk cost. Buy him out right now or park him on the bench to be the tank commander.

Party in the streets, it'shappening.gif etc etc

I couldn't care less who backs up Daccord as long as it's not Grubauer. At least Stezka could get development and learn how he needs to function in the NHL. I'd take Matt Murray over Grubs.

I’m sure Ron would’ve been thrilled if some other GM took Gru off our hands. Too much to expect. At this point best case scenario is he gets some confidence back at CV then perhaps a buyout in the summer?

What ever happened to Martin Jones?

He was a good back up a few years back. Did he retire?

He was streaky on every team he played for. Sometimes outstanding, sometimes awful, and with no prolonged period of really good. He’s not retired, and is considered an unrestricted free agent.
After three consecutive one year deals, the last with the Leafs, he’s probably not going to get another shot.

Well, it's not surprising.

It just doesn't work for him and even though the players in front of him are crap at defending(as a group) you've got to do more than what he has especially with that contract.

He'll be bought out in the summer and will have to try and find a new team willing to give him a chance as a reclamation project.

You have to feel for the guy, Vezina candidate to AHLer in 3.7 seasons. Frankly, it's a monumental moment for the club because it needs to be time to move on. It didn't work and really it only worked for part of one season (Martin Jones was responsible for most of those early wins in season 2).

He's far from the first guy making as much as he does to get sent down. It feels more likely for it to happen to a goalie. Seems like a nice guy, but bummer stuff happens to nice people all the time if they don't get the job done. If his job was to be a nice guy, he'd seemingly be great at his job.

lol

I'd argue, besides early on in that season, that not even Martin Jones was responsible for a lot fo those wins.
It was the offense that outscored all those defensive and goalie problems.
