Sane, Sane, Sane. 30 years old, already sent to a 3rd tier league. Yet somehow young Julian sees him as a centerpiece to the team..in spite of there being several other options at that position.

I get keeping him in the starting lineup for this match...even if I'd prefer Leweling / Undav / Woltemade. Sane is the kind of player who needs a lot of trust & belief from his manager to perform, so if you bench him now you might as well just send him home. He's not going to respond with his A-game, he'll start to sulk.

But yeah, if Leroy doesn't pull a KAT and suddenly live up to his potential at the age of 30...I hope this is the last we see of him at the tourney.

Sane needs 'trust and belief'?...he's not an 18 year old prospect He's closer to washed up than living up to his potential. He's exactly the sort of player who typically falls off the cliff at 30, too. Streaky winger living off his pace and dribbling skills. This has also always been the player type where if you don't get results, you look like a total clown. He's not half the player Arjen Robben was but remember how bad Robben looked when his shtick didn't actually lead to any good outcomes.

Personalities aren't determined by age. Some people need to be coddled/built up to perform, others are Jalen Brunson.

Sane did lead the team in sprints in our last match, and against the US it was Leroy & Kai threatening to get in behind that caused their defense so much panic in the first phase of that match. Leroy also stretches the defense so Flo, Jamal, and Kai can drift around between him & Brown.

Now I do think that Leweling or Havertz could do all of that and even if their first touch is a tick less incredible & they are a tick less explosive, their better decision making and more reliable end product would make either one a better option on the right.

But Leroy does some very useful things for the structure even when his play in the final third is more like it was against Curacao than against the USMNT, and his touch/burst are on an even higher level than Jamie or Kai's.

It's one thing to be supportive and constructive as a coach, but playing a guy because he'll sulk if he doesn't play is called 'rewarding bad behavior'. It's how parents end up with 30 year old kids who hate them but still expect a monthly allowance. Nagelsmann's job isn't to sort out Sane's personality issues, it's to coach Germany. And you're right I would have told Sane that he is no longer part of the DFB's plans ..like two years ago.

Am I the only one that won't touch a drop of coffee if it has a single granule of sugar in it?
Absolutely not. If I had my choice, I'd be drinking La Colombe to support the (little) coffee habit I DO have. But I'd fulfill "Can't afford my house because of Starbucks and avocado toast" memes. So I just do Folgers with a little bit of milk and sugar whenever the missus has leftovers of her brew.

If there's any sugar in La Colombe, I sure as shit can't find it or taste it. I want my coffee to go down like a shot of vodka and that's exactly what it does. But black is too bland for me. The oat milk La Colombe uses in one of their brews adds just enough flavor to whet my pallette

Amen.

I try to tell people all the time that strong coffee made properly is NOT bitter. BAD coffee is bitter.

But Nagelsmann's job isn't to raise Sane, it's to get the best results out of this team, and Sane is simply more explosive than the alternatives and/or his first touch is better than the alternatives...at least now that Karl is hurt...so if JN can get him to perform as well as he was the last time JN coached Leroy, he could help us more than the players I would start were I the NT coach.

I donn't think it'll be worthwhile and we'll end up needing to bench Sane by the knockouts...which is why I'd prefer we start working on our chemistry with Leweling or Havertz in that spot...but this is exactly the time in the tourney to be experimenting with Sane to see if you can't get him to start clicking. We only need a month of locked-in-Leroy, so it's not impossible for Nagelsmann to end up being right.

I'm a Finn so I obviously drink around 10 cups of coffee a day. Just strong, good quality black filtered coffee is good any time of the day and that's what I drink at home. I love a good espresso too, but can't be arsed to do it myself.

IF Sane was the player that we thought he would be 5-10 years ago then this wouldn't be a discussion we have because his qualities would be obvious. The problem is that I think some people love the ideal of what Sane could bring to the table so much they forget what he actually does. Yes Sane adds in theory a quality that others don't have but that Sane ain't suddenly going to walk through the door at age 30.
