I’d rather have TAA be the DLP than Rice
You need a midfield trio or a back 5 for that to work though. In a back 5 he plays wingback in possession tucks inside to the gap in the midfield to be the DLP, Liverpool has done this before in a back 5 or 4 even. With a midfield 3 it would also create more of a gap for him to sit in from deep.

First half takeaways - England has no shortage of dangerous players, but given how offensive and exposed Serbia are, you'd think England would be more aggressive on the ball and in more of a counter-pressing mode rather than just let Serbia control the middle 60% of the pitch.

Putting Foden on the left wing is pretty much just trying to force him in to the line-up because he is one of their best players on paper.

He is constantly drifting to the center, leaving the left wing all to Trippier and occupying the same space as Kane would, evidently taking both of them bit out of the game.

When they are in their half there is a big gap between Rice and Bellingham. I don't think they want Bellingham dropping back into the 8 spot.
Maybe not but they’re do want TAA’s ability on the ball. Rather than Gallagher lungs and work rate.

That’s the logic, but given how Serbia are set up it’s not working. Whereas in this context you’d rather have Rice driving forward, which is enabled with Gallagher next to him.
It also doesn't make a ton of sense considering the front 4 they are playing with.

You definitely want Rice getting more involved, and Gallagher and him as a double piviot or Wharton to take on the defensive coverage unlocks Rice.

Walker had a cross where Kane was running down the middle and Foden decided to just run up Kane's backside rather then drop back or go left.
