I got chills listening to the Hungarian fans sing their anthem to their players.

How popular is hockey in Hungary? It always attracts big crowd. I didńt kniw that so many people pay attention there...

It's getting more and more popular around here. It's amazing how much better we've become in the past decade or so. Our government wasn't paying much attention before but they just can't deny the recent success of this national hockey team, so they started to put some money in it.
In 2010 Hungary had around 2300 ice hockey player, today we have more than 5000. (that includes kids, junior players, professional players)
We have a much better developement program as well compared to the last time we've been in the Group A World Championship. (2009)

I'm currently working for my hometown hockey club (Debreceni HK), so I got to see this process every day. A few years ago we had around 100 young kids playing for us, today we have more than 300. Last year we have opened a new ice surface which is huge for them.
Our hockey is getting better every year.

And the reason we have this amazing fan base...well, you've just witnessed it today. This national hockey team simply never gives up. They always play hard, give 100% in every shift. Even if we know we don't really have a chance, they just go out there and fight for their country. Really heart and soul players. Thats why we love them so much, they deserve this fan base thats for sure.

:handclap:

I hope you guys stay up in the top division.

Why are they taking out Hetenyi? Like they expected to not give up 6 goals after 2 periods and they're disappointed in him?

Vay deserved his chance. He was amazing this year for my hometown club. Basically the only reason we made the playoffs. He is a friend of mine actually, so it was really good to see him playing against Canada. :)

Good to see hockey developing nicely in Hungary. Another step on the learning curve for the team and the programme.

Good to hear, wish our story (Slovenia) would be similar but no. Someone told me that it's possible for big companies to invest in sport and pay less taxes consequently? I spoke to some Hungarian fan during EBEL game here, i might have had one beer too many and misinterpreted his explanation though.

Obviously not much to take from that game. Marchand clearly a disruptive player, usually to Canada's benefit. PP doesn't seem to have any set plays other than the cross slot pass from the low player. Need to improve that. Good effort from Hungary too.

Thanks. I hope you win it this year too. Canada is my favourite team..obviously after Hungary. :)

Thx for report about hockey development in Hungary. If you should rank the popularity of hockey? I know soccer is probably number 1 but then I have no clue. Good luck in next matches!

It's hard to tell but hockey is probably 3rd or 4th in team sports. Soccer is obviously #1 because of the history and culture. I think handball is 2nd and then comes hockey or water-polo.

Here is the video of the anthem if anyone missed it. As Gord Miller said, himnusz :D

You had many Russian players in the latest couple of years, were they good for the organization? Kaskov did had great numbers

I would say yes. Kaskov is one of our best forwards. I like his game when he is on. He has good speed for this league.
Alexander Medvedev was also a great addition later this year. Brought some stability to our defense. Muhin also came back from the KHL to coach this team.

Good win today for Canada. Awesome to see the Hungary fans sing the national anthem afterwards as well.

The desire is there for Hungary to be better, as you saw they have an insane fanbase and hockey stories make top news in the country. If you want to see them crazy, watch some of the celebration when they beat Poland last year to be promoted. They've dominated the U18 and U20 divisions they've been in the last couple of years and each generation of players is more talented than the last (which you want to see in progression). Don't be surprised if they somehow pull a Switzerland sort of come out of nowhere like 8 to 11 years from now.

I think 7-1 was a respectable outcome considering some of the talent Canada has on the forward department. it shows how much Hungary has improved since the last time they were promoted from IA.

Good win for Canada today even thought they beat Hungary. I thought Hungary won the Gold Medal today to see them celebrate after they scored their first goal. They were great singing the anthem. Much respect :handclap:

Awesome! You guys have amazing fans, I literally had chills listening to the fans singing the your national anthem to the players after. Great scene. Your players played very admirably and represented your nation well.

Thanks :) hopefully you guys can make some Canadian games and cheer us on. Really want you guys stay in the top division. The fans bring so much passion and your players battle with good physical play. Lots of respect.

Most Austrians are hoping Budapest gets the EBEL green light. Székesfehérvár of course will do everything to stop it but it would be a great boon to Hungarian hockey.

Yes, money given to youth development in five team sports (soccer, basketball, handball, water polo, and yes, hockey) can be deducted from the corporation taxes (up to a certain amount, of course). However, they are rolling this program back a little bit, but there is still plenty of money going to hockey, at least enough to develop the program further.

Oh Boy
Lets start with 12 goals and go from there.

BTW Slovakia was horrrrrrrible vs Hungary,so that game doesn't count.
- that game was soooooooo boring to watch :shakehead:shakehead
I didn't say anything to this 12 goals for start remark coz I didn't want to jinx it and I'm glad our team proved you wrong. In 2009 it was 9-0 to Canada, but since then we jumped at least 1 level and it was expected to have a more balanced game this time, which it was really. Perhaps next time you won't look down on us so much either.
