Yeah Francouz likely to be in the net. Gulas will also play, expect him to be in the third line with Kovář and Kubalík. Hopefully this line delivers to get some calm and confidence into their play. Faksa looked steadily yesterday, really wish that Palat has like three-point night today, he needs it as he plays quite well (exceptions accepted) but lacks points to become relevant. First line will not be broken, though I don't like their plays in the corner (I know they were productive yesterday). Would also love to see fourth line Jaškin-Chytil-Řepík, were Chytil's skill is completed by other's grit. Both him and Jaškin already played together, Řepík adds speed a goal potencial. Tomáš Zohorna 13th forward and gets some IT in PK and few shifts with the last line.

Would sit Rutta for a match, he was horrible for a whole tournament, unluckily. Sklenička as 7th, Zamorsky paired with Moravčík.

Expect 5:0 win, however wouldn't ve surprised with other 3-4 goals scored on our side. Would love to see a clean sheet. Nevertheless, we HAVE to work on the PP and F-O as they are painful to watch, really.

ČEŠI DO TOHO!!!

I predict first goal for Italy in this tournament. We Czechs just dont give a f*** about anything until we are losing, thats just our mentality to not give a f***...

It's gonna be a special game for Italian defensman Jan Pavlu. His grandfather Jaroslav and his father Martin left Plzen in 1969 and moved to Bolzano, Italy. Both spend several seasons playing for the local team HC Bolzano and became cult players. While Jaroslav is now back in Plzen, Martin is still leaving in Bolzano and works a junior coach. Jan played with the junior teams of Mannheim and Salzburg and with several German teams in the DEL-2.

Filip Chytil back in the lineup after being the healthy scratch against Latvia. Both Zohorna brothers are the healthy scratches tonight. Francouz the starting goalie for the first time. 8 D-men, 12 forwards.

I have just read a last minute news: Jan Pavlu will not play tonight, first game of the tournament for Tommaso Traversa.

Pity for him. I honestly don't understand this. It would be a special game for him, playing against the country of his dad and grandfather. With full respect to the Italian team, they will 99% lose so or so. So why to spoil Pavlu this evening?

Maybe he has some injury.

Italy hasn't scored yet... so I expect them to score 2 today. Czechs win 5-2.

I'd bench Moravcik. Have not enjoyed his game at all. I know Rutta has not been great other but I think that is because he's paired with Moravcik. Musil has looked decent in spot duty...maybe try him on bottom 6.

So happy Chytil is back in lineup. He should be on third line wing so I expect him to be 4C.

Curious to see the Plzen boys.. they should be able to score a bunch against Italy.

I don't see any open spot on the wing for Chytil. Voráček, Frolík, Vrána, Palát, Gulaš, Kubalík seem to be locks now. Then there are Řepík and Jaškin, but if you put Chytil on the wing instead of one of them, then you miss a C, since neither Řepík nor Jaškin are used to play the C position. Or more precisely, the only remaining option for the 4C is T. Zohorna in this case, who has not show up exactly well. If the coaches have to choose between T. Zohorna and Chytil, it seems reasonable to me that they point at Chytil.

I think you're right but I have no idea how Gulas can be a lock?

I do see your 'would need Zohorna back' point but I'd rather Zohorna as 4C and Chytil in Top 9. I don't believe the coaches are done with the Zohorna's.

I don't have the major love for the Plsn line that our coaches and others do. 2 NHLers on line 4 so that Kovar/Kubalik/Gulas can be third line confuses me to no end. Kovar and Kubalik have been playing great so maybe this helps them but they were both already doing great.

I'm just not seeing why Gulas?
Milan Gulas at eliteprospects.com

Average his entire career. Lights up extraliga in his 30's and he's higher than NHL players? His international numbers don't look that good either... 9 points in 19 games over 3 years and those games would've been in the EHT against weaker competition than NHL.

Gulaš played with Kovář in Plzeň and they had great chemistry between them. I don't think that a player who plays in the NHL must be always "higher" in the line-up that a player from Europe, just because he plays in the NHL. It is about good mixture of the lines, no matter in which league the player plays. For example Jaškin is a power forward, typical forecheck guy, but not very productive. His capacities to create offensive plays are limited too. Solid 4th liner in my opinion.

I understand the 'doesn't guarantee a spot because you're in the NHL' argument. But tearing up the extraliga is not the great an accomplishment as it's, at least, 3 leagues behind the NHL. NHL - KHL - AHL - Extraliga. This isn't including the Swedish league or, maybe even, the Swiss league.

In this case, Chytil is an offensive player with a huge upside. Gulas is a journeyman who's never even played for the national team. Feel good story? of course. However, I'm positive if you put Gulas in Chytil's spot on the Rangers he would struggle a lot. I'm also positive if you put Chytil on the first line with Kovar in Plzen that he'd also tear it up.

You are comparing incomparable things: All-season league and with a tournament, NHL with international hockey etc. When I see some young NHLers at this tournament, they have huge problems with their game, while some European players are dominating. Things simply don't go the way "he has earned his spot in the NHL, he will surely be better than a guy from Extraliga/Liiga/SHL..." Today for example I watched Texier for France: So many turnovers, giveaways, he often looked literally lost on the ice. If I tried to judge things based on this tournament, I would actually say that several players from the French league are better than this Columbus guy. But again: They have the experience with the tournament format of competition, with some patters usual in the international hockey but not so much in the NHL, and so on. If they came to a pre-season camp of any NHL team, they would have zero chance to earn the spot on the roster. Some things cannot be compared this easily, really.

Chytil's game has been decent, he was not outstanding but solid in all three games he played so far, and I see him as the C either between Vrána and Palát or between Řepík and Jaškin. Just don't see a spot on the wing for him right now.

I guess 10 goals was too much to ask with our impotent scoring abilities...

It's hilarious. The whole period feels like the Italians (sorry for saying that) do not even belong, yet we are up by just 1 goal
