Not Hischiers best game so far. He set up a some good chances but with a lot of turnovers too. Also not great in the faceoff circle.

Switzerland now with a little bit less gas after 30 minutes. Still 45 shots in 40 minutes.

The game is pretty much over, no pace at all in the last 10 minutes. Both teams will just want to avoid injuries.

I hope that if and when Italy gets relegated again they stay down. We really dont need teams like this at this level.

Hopefully the players will not get to satisfied with themselves Latvia is gonna be a whole other animal tomorrow.

On an other note, Fiala is a super streaky player; if he is on a cold streak he can be a very frustrating player to watch, but if hes hot he is an elite player on any level. Lets hope he can stay hot for the whole tournament.

I realy liked what i saw from the Swiss team in the 1st period.

fast and it clicked ! and Berra kept the 0 ! Italians had some good chances and Berra did his job.

And don't be too tough on the Italians ... they were overwhemled !! Swiss played a fasts speed and that is the key to overwhelm someone ... and then all thinking falls appart.

Poor Italians, pretty outmatched... And Switzerland pushed hard only for like 25/26 minutes in total. With that, 9-0, 2 or 3 posts, 61 shots.

They're missing some of their best players (Larkin, Plastino, Scandella) and Bernard hasn't played for months. Of course they are going to be bad, but they could have been considerably better if things hadn't gone the way they did.

Scandella retired last year. One way to make things going better could be a more intelligent tactic. As a weak team you cannot leave so much open ice.

Yeah, this was too bad of a match even for this mediocre italian team. Players are much better than that. Still not good enough to really have something to say at this level, but for sure enough to put up a better fight than this. Leaving Goi out is a horrible idea.
That said, if Morini is hurt seriously, no point even trying playing next matches.

On the other side of the match, great job. I somehow think that Parplan has not much to share with his linemates and against better opponents it may be a problem, but it went fine this time. Berra solid. Room to improve the power play, though.

I'm lurking a few Facebook groups... Many Italian fans are still complaining about strong Italian Canadians not playing anymore for the national team. I'm forcing myself not to answer. Need to make a Facebook logout asap. :)

Who even are those "strong italian canadians"? For a Scandella that played for Italy there has been way too many trevor johnson or dan sullivan, players that brought nothing more than mediocrity to the team.
Ok, Plastino. But he does not want to play, so? Who else is there? Ihnacak?

They probably shouldn't have dropped Alex Petan.

If you want to have a strong national team, you need a strong professional national league. And a serious youth movement. That's how Switzerland approached the problem about 25-30 years ago and it's paying off now.

Bringing in a bunch of oriundi is a stop gap measure. Will not improve the situation.

Italy has a long history of Italians Canadians successful playing for the national team, so for a long time people will still think they are needed. I personally agree, there is nobody really able to improve the situation. Alex Petan is not in Bratislava because he looked pretty listless in the test matches and the coaching staff cut him from the roster, I don't know how Brian Ihnacak played this season.
