According to finnish media, this was Kazakhstan's first win in the group stage since 2005 (was 2-1 against Germany).
We miss Brunner.
Perhaps if they quadruple their shooting%. Perhaps.
Face-off remain a problem though.
They won't hit 5 posts every game. Bad luck and a very good performance from Kolesnik were the reasons they lost today. I wouldn't change one thing if I was Fischer.
Close isn't close enough
We have been hearing that excuse for years now. For pretty much the entire post-Krueger era this has been a major issue, the exception being the fluke run in 2013.
Something has to be done at the developmental stage and on the coaching level.
That "excuse" was live on tv during the last 3 hours, it was a very good game and will bring them 3 points in 9/10 times.
It's a big difference if you dominate a team and don't score or if you constantly fail against smaller teams because you can't switch the gameplay on attacking mode.
The earlier Swiss teams were completely different in terms of playing style. They had troubles with Norway, Germany etc. almost everytime they played them. It wasn't just bad luck.
Today should've been a 5-1 win or something and no one would complain about their play even if it was the same.
Every team has those kind of games, even canada, russia etc.
I agree that winning against KAZ is a must, not a should, but if it takes a fluke goal, 50 saves and 5 posts to bring them to OT, it's not the world's end.
Sure, Berra let a 40m shot in and nobody could get the puck in because of Fischer![]()
Actually, they are the main reasons. What's definitely NOT a reason is Fischer's native language. That's not the reason we lost

Those Canadians in the kazak-team can do some damage.
....or you should check your facts first.

Not a single one naturalized.
Unless you count Bezina who we stole from great hockey country Croatia.
