GDT: Group A - May 7 - Sweden vs France

It's a blueberry game as we call it in Sweden. If you don't feel for any of the teams, you're watching a suspect slaughter. But, the weaker nations are improving. It's not like in the past.

You have to remember these French players are playing against a bunch of NHL pros, who are used to an extremely high tempo. It must be crazy as an average French player to play against these kind of guys.
 
The first pp should have gone off the ice after the way they handled the last opportunity they got.

I'm trying to be polite here, I'm trying to approve a message of never giving up. ;)

Also, your argument for scratching Lias Andersson wasn't that vocal, was it? Hehe. It was like: "Yeah, sure, take Everberg instead, I forgot about him and that my negative emotions towards Lias were from situations he didn't deserve."

It's not good for the game when Rakell scores early, that's for sure. I feel you. I would also struggle to keep watching this if I wasn't a Swedish hockey fan 3 beers in. If you're not watching because of some specific player drafted for an NHL team, meh, this is not where you need your attention, watch the highlights instead.
 
In any way, now we saw glimpses of Pettersson's primary skills. He's damn slick with the puck and his shot is nothing to laugh at. He just needs too much space right now to be effective in the NHL and he struggles to keep the puck if he is physically challenged.

He could be a PP specialist for Vancouver, but if I was Canucks management, I would let him stay another year in SEL and specifically tell him to get stronger and better at handling closer spaces. It would also be better for his development as a player. His development could actually be constricted if he would be mauled in the NHL/ AHL instead of improving in a more suitable enviroment according to his skill set.

Bringing him over already would be a sink or swim scenario and that's not smart if you're in a rebuild like Vancouver. His appearance next season or not is not significant for the franchise in the long haul. He's a great work in progress. Don't ruin it by rushing it.

Correct. We play tonight with 7 players with no World championship experience, or barely a game or two.
We have two 20-year old in defense : Gallet plays junior in Finland, and Thiry has 1 half a season in Switzerland. Texier is 18. Bouvet, Perret, Douay, Leclerc are under 24 with Perret the lone experienced one (3 WC, Czech elite). So yeah, for us, it's a learning experience. Our tournament will be vs Slovakia and Austria.

But it's great experience for these French players to experience the level they have to reach and that it's possible if you work, really, really hard and get to the enviroment to succeed.

Another year at SHL does nothing for him. He's already too good for the league. He won almost every single award he could win and broke historic records as a 19 year old kid.
If you want him to learn how to play in tighter spaces, then you do it in the AHL.

Well, that's what I would recommend. If he wants to go to from being formed as a very skilled popsicle to an anabolic league, go ahead. I wouldn't recommend it. He can't even handle the physical enviroment of the WHC at even strength, how the heck is he going to handle a more physical league than the NHL (AHL)?

Why put a prime prospect into a sink or swim situation when you don't have to?
 
Blatant mistake by the referees... high hit there, should have been a penalty! :(
so we're 4 on the play because Leclerc goes to the bench, and Sweden scores... man Sweden doesn't need that...
 
Any chance they'll review that hit for disciplinary reasons? Wouldn't be mad if Larsson had to sit a game for that, gotta keep that elbow down.

Yeah, that hit by Larsson was ugly. Nobody in the Swedish camp would protest over a penalty there.
 
Why are other teams' players always going after OEL like they want to kill him after the whistle? He must be talking a lot of crap during games or something.
