I though we (Slovakia) played another great game. Kakko was great, but honestly our goalie should have had at least one of his goals. Decisive goal also came after a clear missed call on a hook on Lantosi, but it is what it is. Happy with the performance, could have easily ended the other way around. Overall I am happy we are finally competitive and look good on ice as we used to long time back.

Love Finland btw, my 2nd fav team.

That was a very poor match up by Ramsey in the 3rd period. Should have had Cernak out there against Kakko all the way in the last 10min. Fehervary had no business on the 3rd goal. Also Cilliak sucked, didn't make any save to give Slovakia a chance to win.

Kakko is good, but Jalonen is the man. He picks regular Finnish players and make them play better than ever before. Of course there will be losses too, but once again Jalonen shows his talent. This team will probably not play in the finals, but with the coach like Jalonen they can challenge any team. Nice work.

It's very nice to watch. With Marjamäki for example the wingers always were standing while receiving passes and the play was very slow. With Jalonen the wingers receive the puck in speed, as they should. And he also doesn't play unnecessarily slow, it's according to the situation. Usually it makes sense, and most of the issues have been due to a lack of individual skill by the players. I almost forgot what it's like to watch the national team being coached by a proper coach.

It just is a dub of Mertaranta's commentary on Granlund's ilmaveivi.

LOL!! Don't know finnish but it's still funny... Can someone please translate the video?
This is the English version of that Granlund’s goal. Although in previous video it was Finnish Antero Mertaranta. Pretty much same storyline.

It's the drunken Finnish goalie coach falling on top of the world championship cup, after Finland won it in 2011, giving it a significant dent. The boys had been partying a little bit too much during their airplane trip.

The narration is from this:

Basically just the Finnish commentator going nuts after a crazy goal. There's a bunch of legendary lines there, something to the effect of "Heaven's sake, what just happened/what's going on".

Thanks a lot!! I thought I recognized the audio from somewhere. Someone made a remix of that same commentary on Youtube which was also funny.

Swedish TV showed the video of him falling from the stairs as well, but I didn't know the fall created a dent. Wow this is getting better and better. :)

Also "There's the guy nodding that 'Yeah, I tried a small trick right there'" :)

"Did you see what a goal this guy just scored! The Russian players are watching on the ice, saying "Oh my god, what the heck just happened?" Granlund put the puck on his stick and made one of the finest goals in World Championship history!"

Just massive hype, as is to be expected from Mertaranta. He is the ultimate hype man.

I think Mertaranta will go to the Finnish Hockey Hall Of Fame one day. Like, if some media guy should go there, it is him.

Was. Used to be very enjoyable to watch but nowadays is essentially a clown who tries to parody himself, tries way too hard and isn't funny. Was super amazing some 10+ years ago but it's a shame how he's fallen. Like watching the 1995 world championship game for example is amazing, super top notch commentary. Wish he could get even close to that.

No doubt, he had a huge impact in establishing hockey as "the" sport in Finland.

Not everybody is a fan of his commentating style, I suppose, but when I was a kid, he had a huge impact on making hockey seem bigger than life.

I remember this call in particular:

I don't really listen to him nowadays but that doesn't take away from how legendary he was, in his day. His "rapid-fire" commentary was unique amongst the usual monotone, dragging Finnish commentators. Unfortunately a lot of people who try to replicate him, just suck at it.

Just want to add to this that it's not just "some" drunken Finnish goalie coach. It's the former Atlanta Thrashers goalie Pasi Nurminen. Won the Calder Cup, was the AHL playoff MVP and played over 100 NHL games. Won two WHC medals as well.

Yup. I think it's just age and possibly no longer being as passionate at hockey, that's caused him to decline.

I mean, there's no way to replicate what he did unless you really know what you're doing and are extremely passionate about it.

True. But at that time he was the drunken goalie coach.
