Sometimes players just don't get pucks in the right spot in a given game. He made some great plays early in the first, didn't really see the puck at all in the second and made some more great plays in the third. He probably individually created more chances than anyone else. Nearly every time he got the puck with space, a chance was created. Criticism of him in a game like this reminds me so much of criticisms that Crosby would get in the Olympics.
As for his play, one thing that's really impressed me is his puck-stealing ability. He's so good at keeping his feet moving while hunting a puck carrier and then lifting his stick at just the right moment.

Liked what the team showed. Nothing wrong with smashing Slovakia as long as they keep up this momentum. Regarding McDavid, thought he was good in the first, didn't show much in the second but did really well in the 3rd. You could see his IQ shining through as he always ended up getting scoring chances. I think this game was just to get his legs underneath him and next game we'll see him start scoring.

Nice. They should be able to make a final decision on the starter after this game. Hoping that Comrie gets the job. Still not sold on Fucale.
That was said during the game tonight several times.
Hopefully Masters isn't passing that off as breaking news.
Makes sense. Alternating them to start is the best approach. We knew this would be the strategy.

oh my god the amount of overanalysis here is funny, the game meant nothing. canada beat a terrible team stop worrying about individuals after 1 game

You know what still makes me laugh? Comments like "so and so wasn't as bad as I've read" isn't really a ringing endorsement for that player.
It is an opinion board. You can bet that the team and the coaching staff do not think it meant nothing. I do agree with you if your point was that some of the negative conclusions about the roster or more specifically Connor McDavid's performance are off base.
Was that seriously a thing?
The Jets have to be pretty happy with their prospects after 1 game.
Hell, Comrie had the save of the game and didn't even play.

Other then just plain not liking Fucale, has Comrie really separated himself that much from Fucale that he is the undisputed starter?
both eichel and mcdavid played good today but mcdavid was better imo despite not getting a point.
