Post-Game Talk: Grinding out wins like we’re constipated

the Skinner-haters are punching air tonight lol...he was excellent, out-duelling one of the best in the business

nice to see McDavid snipe...needs to shoot more

a grind-type win but it was a tough road trip against good teams

done with the East, and now a sprint to the finish
The issue is not Skinner being great one night that Skinner-haters have- it’s that he’s not great consistently. Even Skinner fans have no idea if they will get .850 skinner the next game or .920 Skinner. Hell, we may even see .750 Skinner next game

Don't think anybody is a Skinner fan. That's just turned into a derogatory term used against the few ppl who like to look at things logically and objectively on a "consistent " basis

I hope this is the start of Stu hot streak and not a one-off.

So the Skinner-McDavid-Arvidsson line gets like three high danger chances and draws a penalty in very limited ice time...so of course Knob never plays them together again. This coach is maddening. Also, the only forward with less ice time than Jeff Skinner was Max Jones. Seriously, what the f*** did Skinner do or say to Knoblauch?

"Knob is a moron for starting Skinner" - the majority of HFOil three hours ago

LOL. Cool your jets. This is his second game above .900 in his last ten...

There wouldn't be any "Skinner-haters" around if this wasn't his first great game in a while. I know you might find this hard to believe, but some people actually form their opinions about a player based on their performances...

Well this is just bullshit. He had 5 good/great games in Jan for instance and the majority consensus was he sucked and they won despite of him. Pretty sure you were one of the main culprits too.

The only thing hard to believe is some of your takes

If I had to guess why they felt that way, it's probably because he was letting in way too many first period goals and putting this team in a rut before the second period, while consistently facing fewer high danger chances than the opposition (and probably still in the bottom quarter of the league in GSAx)...but the fact that you have to go back to January and isolate five "good/great games" to find his last good run should tell you how flimsy your argument is.

And I wasn't even posting on this board in January... At least not the Oiler one.

But I'm glad you and the rest of the Stu cheerleading section are so giddy today. Maybe wait for him to string together two good games first...

They always were the exact same type of player and play style (small but big heart and drive), but RV was supposed to have top 6 skill/finish. RV's body is just broken at this point, I think.
I think RV is going to have a streak of good games here. He's showing way more confidence and quickness with the puck. Maybe its me but, but he may be able to utilize his skill more without Leon or McDavid because a) Less pressure and b) He always doesn't have to defer to them.

I know a few people will get at me for this but that's what I'm assuming

Nope. Specifically cited the LA shutout and the St Louis game.

The shutout was attributed to a lackluster LA team who didn't have any quality chances...yet in the first 10 min he made the CC save on Kempe that hit the highlight reals.

Agsinst St Louis he made not 1...but 2 CC saves off turnovers...in the first 10 min. Again, both were monster reads.

I went back to Jan cuz the team and record was stellar, Skins played a significant role in a good chunk of the games....and the consensus was he was terrible and the wins came despite him.

So no, again, to believing "opinions" dome make on here

I agree completely. At his best he plays in straight lines and fires the puck on net off the rush (a la last night).

If he's on a third line where he knows he's the most offensively talented player on the line he's probably going to be a bit more assertive with the puck and a bit more assertive going to the net. You get the sense watching him that he's trying to hard to fit in with his C rather than just do what comes easy to him.

What I'm reading here is that you're so desperate to find anything positive on him that you have to go back to January...and one of your biggest arguments is one single save he made in a game.

Didn't really see it that way. Arvid looks busy on most nights. Doesn't mean he's being particularly impactful. I'm sure not about to reverse stance over one game and a fluke goal deflected by Rangers stick.

I dunno... I'm not a huge fan of Arvidsson, all too often his game reminds me of a former 1st overall being chased by bees. Everything he does has a certain anxiety to it, all frenetic energy with very little thought put into actual execution.

Having said that: he played well last night, with his forechecking actually producing some possession and his goal was far from a fluke. Unlike normally, he actually cleanly received the pass and was putting a solid shot on net rather than a frenetic, high-wide one-timer. That's a welcome change.

You can say the shot was a product of the deflection, but to me it was a minor deflection, with Arvi powering through that late-arriving stick... and if anything that just angled the shot slightly higher. IMO it was likely 1) on net, just lower) and 2) a goal unless Shesty made a miracle happen... he wasn't over or set, so a decent shot to the upper half of the net had a high probability of going in, slight tip or no tip notwithstanding.

Agreed. He's able to drive a weaker line when it comes to offense and I think he relishes that. That 3rd line last night of RNH, Arvidsson and Podkolzin were very good. I hope KK doesn't break it up as usual

I missed most of the game but glad to see Jeff Skinner getting some opportunities with McDavid. He's looked really good for the last couple of months now. With the issues they're having scoring, maybe they'll just leave him with McDavid for the rest of the season and hope that they catch lightning in a bottle. Just need him to get hot for 20 games.
Yeah he looks like he belongs there. Offence doesn’t just die on his stick.

Disagree. Shesterkin likely has it and the shot not going in without the deflection. Shesterkin even looking at his D after that one.

Arvid has had trouble beating goalies from range. When he does usually its a screen or deflection. He shoots the puck decently if inaccurately, this one, yes, was certainly on target but the deflection was enough to make the puck shoot up just enough to evade Shesterkin.

I dunno. Game overall was a hot mess so I'm not watching again. I sure need more track than one game to sense any corner being turned.

Agreed with the frenetic energy with Arvid. Good way to put it, just looks busy and skating fast but almost randomly. He's a chaos player. Sometimes it works.

J Skinner has been working harder generally the last few weeks albeit still inconsistently too.

I laughed when some here thought Seth Jones was going to “rebound” into being a top pairing D after going downhill in C-Bus and sucking in Chicago. The poster whose second team is Chicago knows nothing about the player…yup

Arvidsson's always been that get the puck to the net and generate a chance ASAP type.

Perhaps if he had Foegele or Holloway on the other wing, it'd be a better fit; but with Podkolzin or Skinner on the other wing, he's a horrible fit with Drai. Leon wants to slow the game down and methodically take over the game on the cycle, while RV is going to the net the first chance he gets.

It's one reason I really liked the Skinner-McDavid-RV line in their one shift, All 3 were actually on the same page: when you get the puck, you make a hard deke and gostraight for the jugular; none of this pass it to the point or continue the cycle, It's not a surprise they had the Rangers on their heels and drew a penalty after 30 seconds.

Give me Drai and Hyman plus Fred and Podz on the other top 9 lines, and their lack of size isn't an issue either.

I thought Knoblauch should have kept that line together.

I'm guessing Knoblauch has his plan and wants to keep to it, and it's about prepping for the playoffs. It's likely McDavid and Hyman on a line, with Nuge or Frederic. Draisaitl is meant to be with Arvidsson, with either Skinner or Kane.

We went with Arvidsson and Skinner on a line in the top six early in the season and it didn't end well. Knoblauch switches us his combos but maybe he doesn't want to do it that abruptly. Also, the Skinner-Nuge-Arvidsson line did really well. That could be a third line combo that Knoblauch wants to develop, if Kane and Frederic are in the top six

This is the guy that was bumblebee just last week. I thought it was a parody account. Now a lot is explained since the board has reverted to the previous names.

Now I was wondering why he had the same picture when I went on incognito to see who the poster I put on ignore was.

What a surprise. He's still jerking to glaze Skinner like Jason Gregor's love for shithead Dustin Schwartz

I was also surprised. Did he change his name because nobody took him seriously anymore? Like filing for credibility bankruptcy?

I remember @McAsuno making a post like a week ago just randomly bashing him and it got way more likes and laugh reacts than you would expect. It definitely made me laugh. And that must have been only like a week or two after he changed his name and avatar so who would really know he was the same person?

Might be time for another name change...
