DWade was absolutely a top 5 player for most of the time LeBron spent in Miami... the knock on that team was it's amazing lack of depth. Honestly a lot of people felt he was the 2nd best player in the league until Durant really stepped up and Wade aged a bit.

Yea, you could argue that. But LeBron had nobody comparable to Pippen on the Cavs and during the latter part of his Heat career, as well as currently. The whole #rings argument is a joke.

LeBron has dominated as much as Jordan without being an asshat. And before you bring up the rings, LeBron doesn't have the Pippens/Kerrs/Rodmans around him the same way Jordan did. Pippen was a top5 player in the NBA.

LeBron is already a better player than Jordan.

Oh honeychild; no.

I've seen an interview with Gretzky saying that Teemu - Kariya duo would have been better than Gretzky - Kurri if they played in the same era.

The amazing thing is that being to nice is about the worst thing anyone can say about Gretzky.

Gretzky dominated his sport like no one in history. Who cares how big and good of an athlete anyone was? Has nothing to do with who was the best ever in his sport against his comtemporaries.

Gretzky for sure.

While Gretzky still was active he talked highly about Kent Nilsson. Kent was a Kovalev before Kovalev was around.

If I'm a player and Gretzky praised me I'd be pleased. The best ever thinks you're good, what an honour that would be.

silly me - I thought this thread would be about people praising Gretzky (not sure why we needed another one). When it's actually about Gretzky getting nailed for trying to be a nice guy.

Perfect summer thread.

Gretzky loves those two-way centers. Weird, since he was extremely one sides center. He handled that side as no-one ever. But still.

Here's one.
The “Great One†himself, Wayne Gretzky, is on record as calling Grant Fuhr “the best goaltender in NHL history.â€

No need for defense when your team is routinely spending large amounts of time in the offensive zone.

"getting nailed"? This thread has been good natured fun about Gretzky's tendency to overhype people.

I do not see it that way. Jordan led the league in scoring virtually every year. Because he had to. Gretzky motivated himself destroying records because he had no peers.

Lebron is an amazing player, maybe the most talented body to play basketball... But he does not have the daggar assassin attitude of Jordan or Gretzky... Or he wouldn't finish 2nd in scoring most years. His motivation is not the same as with Jordan. Barely anyone's could every be... Save perhaps Kobe.

Lebron just has regular human will and drive. Jordan had absurd will and drive.

I am sure Lebron is a much happier person himself... And to his teammates. But he isn't Jordan or he would lead the league every year. Lebron does not care if he leads the league or wins MVP... He cares about the title. Gretzky or Jordan care about every moment of every game. Every play for Jordan was about beating the guy guarding him.

Gretzky on Ovechkin

"I think he could do 90 in a season"

That's probably not going to happen, as great as Ovi is.

Would be awesome if he scored 60 again a couple of times at some point to move closer to the 800 mark and Gretzky's goal totals, though. Still, that's going to require consistency and longevity.

All I can think of is Olli Jokinen's interview where he talks about Gretzky telling him to go out for a burger.

Well that's sort of a big part of dominating no? Jordan was able to win 6 straight titles with 1 other HOFer on his team (the two threepeats with his league mandated "retirement" season between them). The difference between the sports is a big part of that, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't on a level of dominance that Grez, Beckenbauer/Pele/Maradona/Cruyff/Netzer, Montana/Unitas/Brady couldn't match.

Who are these guys.
