I totally disagree. I think his record in running Phoenix is looked upon as far worse than it really was.

You are spot on.

People often say that Tippett was able to turn the team around with the same roster, which is not true. 5 of their top 6 goal scorers in Tippett's first year were either acquired at the deadline in TGO's last season, over the summer (in Vrbata's case) or during the next season. Not to mention that TGO's teams had a lot of youngsters, like Keith Yandle, and Tippett had the benefit of their continued development and, in Yandle's case, his first full season.

That doesn't mean TGO's a better coach than Tippett, just that it's not fair to judge them by their records with PHO because they were coaching different rosters.

I'm rapidly getting to the point where I wish all these old timers would just go away, Sather inculded. Gretzky made a mess of the Coyotes & now he will help Sather make a bigger mess in NY.

Scotty Bowman was once a player too. They have to come from somewhere.

Agreed. Only carrier Rangers like Hank should get jobs in the organisation when his retired. Maybe he can develop in to a goalie coach or something.
It's hard to explain what I mean in English, but no Gretzkys or Messiers should have jobs just because of their names. They have to bring in something that improve the organisation, like Ulf who has developed a coaching ability.

I mean, what is Gretzky good at nowadays, that could help this franchise? Has he any education beside being a former Great One?

and this excludes the financial "Mess" that he was in, because really that isn't a fair point to make. He didn't run the team bankrupt, Moyes did
