On Lebowski's rug
The Kings are 6-0 with Greene out of the lineup. I think going forward it should be difficult for him to get back in the lineup. Including this season he has 3yrs and 7.5 remaining on his contract. As good as a club house and character guy as he is, it's hard to imagine him on this roster. His health is a concern, especially the style of game he has to play. He played in 82 games last season and played alright. Maybe with the recent play of his "replacements", maybe he'll have the time needed to get healthy which a long Summer wasn't able to do.
He's played well in LA and helped bring 2 cups, but...
Curious what LA does going forward with Matt Greene and what options LA has.

Matt will at minimum be depth. He isn't going anywhere

DL loves him and it's been reported that the coaching staff uses as the guy to say certain things and send messages.

HF: Trade him
DL: With Stoll, Regehr, Williams, Richards, Mitchell all gone from the 2014 team, you need some leadership in the room. Greene is the vocal veteran. Brown, Kopi, and Carter are all lead by example type guys.

Understood, but he has TWO more seasons after this one. Do you really lock up a roster spot to help communicate with the players? Not sure that good asset management.

I'd suggest making him a coach(I actually think he'd be a good one).

The Kings are 6-0 with Greene out of the lineup.

They're also 6-0 with King out of the lineup. We should trade him too.

They're also 6-0 with AA in the lineup. DL should sign him to a 5-year contract extension asap.

Reality check: Kings were outscored 12-2 in the 3 games Greene played. He had a +/- of 0. Granted, he took too many penalties in those games, but he wasn't the cause of the team's problems.

Is his injury this year his back again? If so, he might be retiring in the not so distant future. His contract isn't a complete anchor. Obviously, you don't want to pay a guy $2.5M to ride the pine but it's not debilitating. I think the Kings do need his locker room presence this season after the **** storm last year and the fact the character and leadership on this team has been gutted the past few years. And really, if the Kings wanted to move Greene, who the hell is going to trade for him?

LA is 6-3 without King and 6-2 with AA. I get your point even if you didn't get mine.

I can't see MG leaving town for another year or too. Just too much change and leadership.

Maybe he has too many miles and injuries on his body, but he's a great depth defenseman. Most teams would LOVE a Greene as their #6, we're just spoiled. He has issues, but he's far from a problem, and people keep citing his salary, but his salary isn't the cap problem this team has.

I'm MUCH more receptive to the idea that he's our #7 now, as we've seen how freaking good the lineup is when all six guys can skate or move the puck--but even 5 would be fine because in the past we've had ~4 (Scuderi, Regehr, Greene. Mitchell is better than those three at it).

He's got leadership and intangibles, two cup rings, his foot speed is ok for a big guy. If he's healthy he's easily tradeable. If he's not healthy he's an anchor. I know we're not trading Gaborik anytime soon so maybe it takes a Greene and King package to land a top 4 dman?

He's also a RHD, which is a rarity--though Polak is arguably a better asset for trade.

they're 6-3 without King

and 6-2 with Andreoff

so it's flawed

but they are definitely 6-0 without Greene

sorry i posted something similar without reading yours! lol

but i agree with you, Greene & Schultz do not help the kings at all when it comes to defensive aspects of the game

great leaders? possibly

great defensemen? hardly

As soon as he's healthy he'll be back in the lineup in McBain's stead, pretty sure about that. By now though it seems apparent that Muzzin-Martinez is a better pairing than anything with Ehrhoff so looks like they will probably be sticking together for a decent top 4... Bottom pair of Greene-Ehrhoff could be good, could also be a dumpster fire. I think we'll find out pretty soon.

we are 6 3 without KIng and yes we should hes not needed or missed by me

Greene had a pretty horrid time leading up to the playoffs in 2014 and then all of a sudden he was a stud, so much so that he displaced Regehr in the Stanley Cup Final when Regehr was available after being injured earlier in the playoffs.

King causing diplomacy problem now.

One thing that will remain accurate is that everyone will have their favorite player, or players they are partial to based on past positive or negative experiences.

I thought maybe last year Greene would be shipped at the deadline in a move that worked two-fold: cleared some cap space and was part of a shakeup. Seems highly unlikely DL will move him ever, and I for one wont question DL. Stoll was another one I could have seen move last year at the TDL. I think we're sometimes expecting moves that just wont happen.

Im sure Coach Sutter gets a pass from most, and it would be hard to argue his successes with this team. While I applaud DL's loyalty, I still believe that there is a point where loyalty and business need to be separated. If there's an area of weakness with DL, this would be it.

Id much rather have Greene over Schultz. This should be a moot point, injuries aside with our NHL level depth
