Plus, while DL's UFA record is less than stellar in LA, he's hit it out of the park when it comes to stay at home D-man UFA's (Scuderi and Mitchell).

and Schultz!

for the money and for depth, that was a ****ing home run.

I really don't think Lombardi's UFA signings have been had. Remember that guys like McCauley and Thornton were brought in to change the culture.
Nagy, Stuart, and Calder were warm bodies to keep Lie-weekly happy while we "competed" while rebuilding

Greene Loves SoCal... Anaheim needs some snarl and has plenty of Cap Space to bring in a 2x Cup Champ. This Greene thing might hurt more than you think if that happens.

Stuart was another good signing. Thornton as well just for what he brought to the locker room.

Calder was terrible, McCauley was just bad luck and nagy was what it was, a desperation move by a weak team hoping to hit a home run. It was worth a shot.

And they already have eight D-men signed for next year: http://www.capgeek.com/ducks/, nine if you count RFA Vatanen

i can't see them bringing in any D without a trade of some sort.

I'm not saying Greene is the total equivalent of Scuderi when the Kings brought him on board, but that's the type of transaction you make when you're a cup contender and you need grit. You could easily lock up Greene, then make a trade to free up a roster spot with Souray and Beauchemin both older and slowing. Green is a better PKer than both and again, 2x Cup winner has to be considered an upgrade over them with Souray being a constant injury risk and Beauchemin being well, Beauchemin.

SJS I gotta believe would be interested as well.

Question: if you were offered 3M AAV for 4 years by another team and the kings only offered 1.5M, would you go to the other team, JUST because of more money?

Honestly, I want to be where I'm happy. And it isn't as if Greene's going to go on welfare by signing for 1.5M. LA is his home, and he's comfortable and happy here. Any other team Greene goes to, there will be the unknown...why risk it?

I would go for the money. He has 2 Cups and it's not like he can't be comfortable and happy in another city. If his goal is to retire for life after hockey, money is very important. Think about it, many of these guys don't have a great education and even what they do have may not be enough for future work. LA isn't the only good city to play in and since he's from the northern US, he won't be afraid of cold. If he is, he can live close to the arena in a cold weather city and avoid it as much as possible, then he can live in LA when his career is over.

I will miss Greene more than most here, I believe. He's a much better dman than I think many of us give him credit for.

I think his biggest problem has been his health. His body has taken quite the beating over the past couple years and he's missed a ton of games due to injuries. It's a question of whether or not he's a player you can pencil in for 70+ games every season.

Honestly, he's been a good player for us but I think many of you guys overrate him. He's really good in and around the net (clearing) and blocking shots, but he's not fast and takes a lot of dumb penalties when he gets beat.

If you look at his career stats, he's never been a really a great +/- player. His best year is a +6. McNabb is going to be exactly the kind of replacement we need for Greene, and I believe they should pair him with Martinez since he's played both sides, but then what happens to Regehr?

We have become the team that players who are desperate to win a cup will give up a bunch to play for along with the Hawks.

Gabby's rumored to be considering what is being called a "team friendly" contract to remain with us.

I hope you're right, but I'll believe it when I see it. Name one negotiation DL has had since 2011 where the player took less than what he was worth to stay in L.A.? I'm looking at Capgeek, and I don't see one.

No one is a bigger fan of Greene than me and I think it's a mistake to let him go. I've had to defend Greene on these boards more than I've defended JCM for some of his bad Halloween costumes. Like this one from 3 years ago OH YEAAAAAAAHHHHH!!

That is just a whole lot of Awesome right there... Keg cup completes the costume.

At the end of the day, we cannot keep all three of Regher, Greene, and Mitchell. At this point in their respective careers, they all perform essentially the same job. There are arguments for and against each guy, but for my money we keep Regher and Mitchell. Regher is on the books for next year anyway, and Mitchell is simply a better player than Greene.

I'd rather keep Greene than Regehr, but I think another team will give Greene a lot more money than we can so unless hes willing to take a pretty big hometown discount :/

McNabb hasn't played a single game in a kings uniform yet, seems like a risk to just automatically slot him into the defense core next year.
