Do they or are the prospects we draft just not top end NHL calibre? The leafs have one of the worst amateur scouting departments alive.

I mean not a lot of teams draft top end talent in the 2nd round. Pretty sure Knies alone takes us out of the worst amateur scouting department alive

Can you back that up with statistics showing how we scout, draft and develop players vs all of the other NHL teams and at what rate we are successful compared to them?

I’m obviously being tongue in cheek. But just for fun. I ran it through AI. Leafs fall in the middle. Extremely high rate when it comes to hitting first rounders and post 2010 had quite a bit of success with middle to late rounders playing NHL games. Leafs have struggled the most as an organization drafting in the 2nd round. AI says poor late 1999’s and Early 2000’s were a big issue for the leafs and the leafs biggest struggle when it comes to hitting on prospects is defenseman. They site Rielly as being the only top end defensive prospect they’ve developed in the last 20 years.

AI identified the Florida Panthers as the worst drafting team out of all the NHL teams.

We’re good at getting functional games played out of the draft but we don’t get many impact players. If you expand it to the development system as a whole to include guys like Hyman Moore McMann we’re probably top 10 at churning out useful middle 6ers.

Sorry but that hit against Knies is a penalty according to the Reeves hit last week. Shame on the NHL. Hopefully Knies is okay.
