I have a question for the Czechs for which victory they deem more important. Which one do you consider the more significant victory?

-Beating the Russians twice at the 1969 WC after the Prague Spring
-Winning gold at the '98 Olympics

Belarus

1) 2002 olympics 4-3 Upset of Sweden in the Quarter Finals
2 and beyond) pale in comparision to #1

Both teams had amazing rosters that year, as you can see by the boxscore.

Sweden 6, Finland 5
First Period
1-0 Sweden M. Sundin (Renberg, Axelsson) 4:45
1-1 Finland Selanne (Niinimaa, Koivu) 7:31 (pp)
1-2 Finland Selanne (Koivu, Peltonen) 9:13 (pp)
1-3 Finland Kallio (Miettinen, Santala) 18:35
Second Period
1-4 Finland Rintanen 5:26
1-5 Finland Selanne (Koivu, Niinimaa) 6:44 (pp)
2-5 Sweden Jonsson (Nordstrom, Hoglund) 8:04
3-5 Sweden Forsberg (Zetterberg, Tarnstrom) 9:27 (pp)
4-5 Sweden Hoglund (Jonsson, Nordstrom) 17:20
Third Period
5-5 Sweden Forsberg (R. Sundin) 8:22
6-5 Sweden Axelsson (R. Sundin) 15:06 (pp)
Goal: Salo/Tellqvist (26:44); Hurme/Nurminen (40:00)

This was an amazing game! My dad is a fan of Finnish hockey and I am a fan of Swedish hockey. This game comes up a lot, when we are talking about WC. :D

Oh, this!

I (and probably most of czech fans) would say that 98´ gold sits higher. But if you asked some older guy in pub he might say that beating soviets twice worths more. :)

Right now - 98 Olympics
At the time it happened - close, but I'd say 1969 WC

For us Canuck Oldtimes #1 is 1972 Summit Series...EASILY

then pour moi...2002 + 2010 OG Gold in a dead heat

Next comes Piestany :naughty: ( just kidding )

It was unbelievable.

1. Olympics 2004 (silver)
2. World Cup 2004 (silver)
3. WC 1995 (gold)
4. WC 2011 (gold)
5. Olympics 2014 (bronze)
6. WJC 2013/2014 (gold)

It was unreal feeling when our team beat Canada in the semifinal. And it's always nice to beat Sweden in Sweden.

2006*. This would be my list as well. The greatest single game would be the 2006 Semi-final against Russia. Dominating 4-0 win

Latvia
1) The 2000 World Championship

Latvia 3-2 Russia (Latvia advances to the play-off stage of the World Championship for the first time in its history and sends Russia to the relegation round on its own soil)

2) 2014 Sochi Olympics

Latvia 3-1 Switzerland (making the Olympic play-offs for the first time)

3) 2005 OGQ tournament

Latvia 5-4 Belarus (the Latvian team was trailing 2:4 just four minutes until the end of the 3rd period and had to win in regulation time in order to qualify for the Torino Olympics - they scored 3 goals in a couple of minutes in front of a packed home arena, the local media later dubbed it 'the Latvian Miracle on Ice')
This would be my revised list:

1) 2005 OGQ - An incredible and very emotional comeback against a country that at the time we nearly had a rivalry going on
2) 2000 WC - Yup, no doubt, and certainly as emotional if not more than the win over Belarus. Still, Russia struggled heavily throughout the tournament which sort of diminishes the magnitude of this victory, at least in my eyes.
3) 2009 WC - Shootout wins over both Sweden and Switzerland

Honourable mentions:

Sochi win over Swiss, the 2003 WC win over Russia

Hmmm. Winning the B WC in 2002 which meant that we got into the A-Group where we have been ever since.

There are two others that come to mind. The 5-2 against US in 2003 or the 6-0 win against slovakia in 2010(all scored in the 1st period)

Sweden's win vs Canada in 1962 World Championship is worth mentioning too, which was their first win against Canada in the World Championship/Olympics. Canada had 108 shots in the game, but Sweden won 5-3. The empty-netter to secure the win is a classic goal in Swedish hockey history.

Classic! This one should be ranked high!
