2016 is still my favorite hockey team of all time.

This guy gets it.

2016 for me. From curb-stomping the Rangers at MSG to beating the Sharks... it was one hell of ride. Once they started rolling in March, you knew they were going all the way.

From a "beautiful hockey" standpoint, 2016 is definitely the high water mark for me. That team was nearly flawless in so many respects.

But 2009 will always reign supreme for me because it was such a back and forth Finals that could have gone either way. For me it was more personal since I'm surrounded by Wings fans so it was extra glorious.

Yeah, I think most Pens fans will go with either 2009 or 2016. 2017 is a definite third.

2016 for me... it was the return to form after years of being let down. Hagelin's OT winner, in particular, felt like the clock had struck midnight for this group. So it was satisfying to see them go from that to killing the clock in Game 6 against the Sharks.

Like, I'm pretty sure there were multiple games against the sharks where they had like 2 shots the entire second half of a game. And they weren't a terrible offense

I don't know what the hell our guys were doing that they couldn't actually keep doing the following years

I might be wrong on this exact stat, but for the entire 3rd period of Game 6 (an elimination game for the Sharks), the Pens gave up 1 shot against.

That seems preposterous. That team had the perfect mix of speed/skill/defensive positioning.

They removed the defensive drivers of the team. Guys who were shot blocking and doing all the little things that won you games.

We didn’t play all year that way…we got faster when the calendar hit 2016 and so we only needed like 3-4 months of playing that way…when it came time to sustaining that pressure game for the entire year, we couldn’t do it…we still can’t do it..not enough speed, too old…the way Sullivan ideally wants to play won’t work

All that is fine, but I always thought if the refs allowed that Drouin’s goal ( as they probably should have) who knows how we would look at that too

I'm partial to 2009 because Miro Satan was one of my favorites throughout his years of torching the Pens, so I was ecstatic when the Pens signed him, absolutely gutted when he got waived, went through re-entry waivers, and on Cloud 9 when the Pens won, and he got a ring, plus the name Satan is on the Cup.

But, 2016 was incredible, too, because I also loved Phil Kessel, and seeing him win a ring was also special.

Maybe I'm attached to the number 81.

Also - i remember coming to HF because I got literally kicked off letsgopens.com. In MAF's 2nd year I said i didn't like his rebound control and think it could be a problem and I got more heat than you can imagine.
My buddy always posted on HF so I came on over to the dark side and never looked back.

The rebound control wasn't his fault according to his goalie coach at the time. Just bad puck luck
