Greatest moments in HFPens history...

Ill add 2 more great ones:

When Sid got diagnosed with the mumps after everyone here saying he had the mumps despite the team saying he didn't have the mumps

When Disco Dan had the team play wiffleball in practice, on skates and then there were injuries afterwards (can't remember who)

Malkin living our dream. What a goat.

I'll always remember when I was in high-school and was still using the family computer, so maybe back in 2006 or 2007 and some guy created the user Captain C***. He made a thread blabbering on about something or another and then finished the post with a picture of literally a huge rooster and then a bunch of scrolling spaces and then just the most NSFW graphic picture to match his user name. My mom was in the room and when I had a reaction to what i scrolled to and saw, she saw and kicked me off the computer and I was banned off it for a few days "for even being on sites where that can be a thing".

Not greatest, but I'll always remember it being up for a few days somehow after I got back on and people saying they were gonna track the guy down with his IP# and report him because kids are on here, etc... and him begging not to and writing a big apology post about how he did it at his work computer and it would ruin him. Was the wild west back then around these parts.

Sorry for the obnoxious length of this but it ended up pretty entertaining remembering some of these while looking up if they still existed online.

So here's some of my most memorable events of the Pens over the years, mostly from my youth due to my college years lining up with that 07-09 Pens era, along with the heyday of the pensblog online culture.

Didn't migrate here until most of the regulars stopped posting there and the content declined. Spent some time on letsgopens.com during that era too, as well as regularly arguing with some particularly smug red wings fans on the espn hockey forums (some things never change), before eventually learning about here.

So not exactly on topic for the thread, but I would find it interesting for those who were present here during these moments how this board reacted to them in contrast.

  1. Not my earliest Pens memory, but sticks out the most from the Lemieux years because of it occurring during a family trip to Florida. I can still today recall so vividly watching this goal on the tv in our room sitting on the bed, then walking along the pool/lazy river that flowed along the boardwalk on the way to the mall in the middle of the resort for late night celebratory snacks.

  2. I was at this game with some friends, down in the lower bowl to the left of the goal on the opposite end. Don't remember there being a lot of people in attendance as was usual then. My memory makes me think it was an afternoon game, so must've been a weekend game if I'm remembering right. That x-generation era was pretty cringe even then marketing wise, but was weirdly endearing to follow despite how bad the team was.

  3. These don't need introduction for most here i'd assume. Looking back it's funny how the Pens marketing and community outreach during this time seemed so unpolished, almost amateurish at times, compared to what it became in the Consol Energy era. Yet was oddly endearing and relatable for younger me.

  4. This was clowned on in every forum I can remember back then, what were they thinking?

  5. Memorable for the classic Geno quote, as well as for how popular I remember that specific marketing campaign was online to parody.

  6. Feel like this was one of the better playoffs recap montages cbc ever made. I remember playing the song on repeat throughout that summer.

  7. I remember trying to follow the reports online of where the players were showing up with the Cup into the morning.

  8. Didn't know who this was, I didn't listen to Stern at all, but remembered this being pretty amusing at the time.

  9. Surprised this still existed online, from the pensblog community.

  10. And finally, think this is the only moment from my HF days, Crosby's supposed not-mumps.

There's many more, but that first cup era is what I remember most fondly, mostly due to it occuring during the prime of my youth, what a time that was.
