Looks like a pre-tournament promo for the 1976 Canada Cup.
The only thing I can’t make sense of are the goalies. The two on the left are definitely Dan Bouchard and Chico Resch. Anyone know who the Bruin and Flyer goalies are?
The Bruin is supposed to be Gerry Cheevers, but… am I crazy or does that not look like him at all? Then the Flyer… Parent was notably injured and couldn’t take part in the tournament, and in any case that’s definitely not him. It looks more like Wayne Stephenson, but why would he have been there? I know Rogie Vachon was a relatively late entry replacing Parent, but AFAIK he showed up for camp and played the tournament.
@Bear of Bad News any ideas or backstory?

It's Showdown, which was a very well-known fun skills competition in the 1970s. Skaters and goalies. This version was likely done during the Canada Cup. Danny Grant was famously very good at it.

Definitely Gilbert and Stephenson - super interesting pic. I believe I’m seen it in the SIHR files but I’ll confirm when I’m on something larger than a phone. Great shot !

Love watching stuff like this. Look at the difference between Salming’s slapshot form and Lapointe’s. And at the end, the ice level shots really make you realize how deceptive Salming’s shot was. At the very end, they give you a slow-mo where you can see him targeting glove side and then switching to shoot blocker side at the very last instant. Makes Stephenson look silly but you can easily tell why he ended up waving at the puck.

Apparently, some people don't know that Ken Dryden tried out a combo mask before he retired. I don't believe he wore it in a game. Here's what Greg Harrison writes about it: "When I developed the cage combination mask for Ken‘s brother Dave, Ken asked to have one made for for him. Those two masks were made in the same design with the same style of custom cage, and then after that I streamlined the design gradually to come up with my final design. Both Dave’s and Ken‘s Masks initially had a small hinged throat protector which both ended up discarding. Ken wore his cage combo mask just prior to retiring." (courtesy of Greg's Instagram)

That is a Cooper-brand ball hockey mask, widely available at sporting good stores in the early to mid-1980's.
Mad Max wasn't its only foray into the movie world, either. This mask was also use for the home video poster art for Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning despite looking nothing like the mask the killer wore in the movie.

What's up with Gretzky's hair? In 70s/early 80s pictures it's straight and long, by the mid-late 80s it's curly, then when he goes to LA he cuts it short and it's straight.
I have to assume it's naturally straight and he permed it in the 80s? Or is it curly and he was straightening it when he let it grow longer?
