Post-Game Talk: Great effort in shootout loss to Dallas!

Not mad at this one. We still played well and showed a lot of fight. Dallas is really good and deep. Surprised how tough we played against a physical team like Dallas. All good!
Dallas is very good but they’re not physical. In fact, that’s a huge weakness for them.

We are playing great hockey. But we need someone who can control the game.
Demi will be amazing added to this team.
You know that's a lot of pressure for someone who never played in North America. I'd rather temper my expectations, given what I'm expecting of Dach right now eh.

That "backcheck" by Gallagher on the Dallas goal was one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen. How can you call yourself a professional athlete and be that gassed after 30 seconds.

Also Newhook might be worse than Dvorak. He might actually have the crown of worst Habs forward. Just zero impact anywhere on the ice.

Newhook on pace for close to 4th line production getting 2nd line and PP minutes is embarrassing at this point

I know they dont want to break up certain lines but its just not acceptable

I am happy with how the team has played for the last month. We seem almost unbeatable.

However something to note as teams start to take us more seriously, we will play more and more often against the #1 goalie of the opponent. And we've scored 1 goal in the last game and a half against #1 goalies.

This is the next step the team needs to take. Scoring more often against those goalies.

Logan Thompson is a legit #1 goaltender. He and Lindgren split duties pretty much evenly, you can't discount those 3. As for tonight, Dallas was rested and dominated possession, they're an elite defensive team this year, and Oettinger played very well, saving almost 1 and a half goals against over expected.

Our shooting percentage was bound to regress a little anyways, it's been too high for too long.

Utah is crap. Habs have trouble against crap teams.
Ye both of these statements are true. Its time to change the mindset about these games. I.e. to me it feels like these games vs crappy teams feel like "must-wins" and somehow the pressure coming from it just works against us. While against good teams we have nothing to lose and we just play pressure-free and do well.

Its of course an over-simplification and maybe even a false assessment but thats how its felt for me during this otherwise unbelievable stretch of wins.

Montreal played a great game. Dallas a real strong team, well coached. Got a point on second of a back to back. Made 3 out of 4 points for the weekend. Caufield came within a whisker of making it 4 out of 4 points. Habs going 9-2-1 in last 12.

Puts us 9th in conference. Only 2 points behind Colombus for final playoff spot but with a game in hand. More importantly to me, only 3 points behind Boston but with 2 games in hand. Bruins are real struggling.

Montembeault had a great game. Stopped 34 of possible 35 shots. Stood on his head in overtime. Hutson just seems to keep improving with every game. Several Norris in future for him.

Have a week off then Toronto next Saturday night. I'll be watching, in stereo sound 7.1. Bell Center crowd be electric. A win over Leafs would make great night

He's a weird player. You don't notice him alot but there usually a play or two where you are like "woah, who was that guy'? He had another one of those moments tonight where he beat the defender clean and had a lane to the net. The problem is that when he has those plays, they never result in a goal.

Dallas beating us 2-1 in OT while we're on the 2nd game of a back to back... Congrats green team i guess..

Correction on Boston. Montreal is actually 3 points behind with 3 games in hand.

They look to be in trouble, but I'm hesitant to count them out.

It's irrelevant. O'Reilly has retired. he wants to play somewhere they don't give a shat about hockey.
That’s true - he said he found media & drama in Toronto too much & wanted a quieter market, however, he doesn’t have any trade protection

Laine back in the lineup making his presence felt:

Laine scored the Habs' lone goal, a howitzer from his office:

Monty deserved better, had a 34-save performance.

Lots of action, amazing game.

Discuss!

Laine shows he is not just a pretty boy with a shot

Considering the boys were stuck at the airport in Washington the night before and probably did not get in bed before 6.00 am, I say this is a very valiant effort against another powerhouse of a team.
The schedule has been brutal in the last month.
At this point, I’m actually happy none of our core players aside from Monty were selected for the 4 nations cup , they will need their well deserved rest .

I like getting a point but hate losing an effective 50:50 point. Team looks good and that’s the most important thing.

I don't mind those points either, it's funny though, a year ago those points were undesirables.

Sound to me like ROR is just as annoyed by Sportnet only talking about Matthews all the time and all the chockers in the locker room complaining all the time about things being too hard...:sarcasm:
