With Cozens rumoured to be on the block, how would people here feel about offering the Dallas 1st + Musty to Buffalo for him? Cozens will be 24 on the 9th of this month. Right shot C/W, signed for 5 more seasons at 7.10 per year I believe.

Buffalo and San Jose are not good trade partners. Buffalo has too many young players and needs vets that produce, not more picks and prospects.

In order to make moves like that, you have to trade with a team that has surplus prospects at a position you want to improve because teams that make deadline deals want to have more talent on the NHL roster for the playoff push than they had before the deal.

we need to improve every position. We're not yet in a position to discount the possibility of any prospect if Mike sees a real path from them to the NHL.

I have a hard time believing that Granlund in his 1.5 years here fell so madly in love with San Jose and the Sharks organization that he would be willing to take a short term deal to spend what are likely his last effective years in the NHL on a shitty team helping mentor a bunch of kids till he is put out to pasture. He has been a consummate professional and always says the right things which might make people think that he would be amenable to a team friendly deal. But many would be free agents say how much they love playing in the city they currently are and would love to be back. Doesn't mean he isn't going to look for what's best for himself when it comes to free agency time.

I would be surprised if multiple contending teams don't offer him a decent contract to play on teams much closer to the Cup than we are. Getting good value for him now was the right thing to do. If he desperately wanted to stay on a team friendly deal, I'm sure that can be arranged in the offseason. I highly doubt it though.

I'm happy for Granny, but I will be ruthlessly self-interested and hope they get knocked out in round 1 so we can have a slightly higher draft pick. Also, f*** Dallas.

There is more to being a professional athlete than just trying to get the most money or win a championship. From Sheng’s podcast it sounds like he was dealing with some personal stuff as he was traded here and it seems like that has gone away here which could explain his desire to stay.

I didn’t want him to come back because I want Smith to transition to C and Granlund would block that. I think a similar top 6 vet that can be more effective on the wing would benefit the Sharks. Krieder is one target of NY still wants to dump his cap.

Sure, but liking the weather/culture is not good enough. His personal problems would have been resolved anywhere, and he could always settle in Northern California post-retirement. It's the whole "I want players who want to win, not players who like the postal code".

I don't think Tyler Toffoli doesn't want to win just because he signed here. I think he got financially compensated to come somewhere where he'd still be a Top 6 guy and wouldn't have to worry about being moved at the deadline.

I'm very curious what Buffalo does with Thompson. Obviously he's highly skilled but I don't think he's a real center. So they really don't have any legit top-6 centers on that roster (Cozens is a wing too).

He's looked good actually playing on the top line and is producing, but I don't think he's the longterm solution for them up the middle. Strange situation in Buffalo. So many good young players but it just won't fit together into a winning team.

I do truly believe that bad roster construction/fit has been the biggest issue with the Sabres for the last decade. Too many left-handed offensive defensemen, wingers forced to play center, bad balance of playmakers vs. shooters, no capable matchup line, that sort of thing. And I don't like the mix they have right now at all either. I think they need to make some blockbuster trades to really take a step forward IMO, and other than Dahlin and Benson no one should be untouchable.

No major deals left, but minor deals for Ferraro, Kunin, or Sturm deals might be possible. Doubt we have anything else anybody is interested in unless they have interest in moving Walman.

Trading Walman would help since he’s about the only productive defenseman with the puck. Grier isn’t done but the guys likely to be moved are more depth guys like Kunin, Sturm, and Rutta.

Honestly I don’t see any reason for them to mark Benson as untouchable. He is a small winger who while playing in the NHL at 19 is not having much success.

I actually think they should be open to moving anyone including Dahlin. They have lots of valuable square pegs and only round holes to place them. I’m sure the fan base would not want to start over but they need a whole organizational change to be successful.

At this point there is no need to make any moves to help tank further. This team is bad and has maybe a 1% chance of not being bottom 2 which guarantees them on of the big 4 prospects. Moving Walman for anything less than an overpay would just create an environment that would be almost impossible for the young FWs to develop.
