I'd like to see him flip Dallas's first and our 2nd to squeeze into the top 10. We need quality instead of quantity at this stage of the rebuild.
I don’t think it could get us into the top 10 but probably somewhere in the teens which I’d be on board with. I agree though. I’d prefer to package those two assets for one better asset.

I’ve argue that the combination of picks is enough to move us up into top 12, kind of like the Bysted trade back in 2022. Arizona traded picks number 27, 34, and 45 for our 11 pick at the time.
Except that you're missing the 45th pick. 26 + 33 probably gets you to the mid-late teens. 45 was needed to get from ~16 to 11.

Besides the point is that I don't think it's worth it in this draft. The guys available at 11 won't be meaningfully better than the guys at 26.

And in any case, I bet the Dallas 1st is used as an asset in a trade.

Perhaps we could include 2026 second round pick since we have 2. But you’re right, this draft isn’t looking too good, so it’s not worth packaging the 2026 for this year’s draft.

Yeah, that's an insane number of picks to get into a range with mediocre players. Hard no.

Edit: There are only two scenarios I would seriously consider trading up: 1) Young Eklund falls out of the top-10, or 2) we can swing something like 16+50 for 26+33, getting a shot at one of the better RHD and maintaining the same number of picks.

Getting young Eklund would be a dream come true, that would be Sedin bros 2.0 in SJ.

So is Bedard, Schaefer, McKenna, DuPont. Luckily for us, neither scenario is very likely.
McKenna and DuPont are strictly reserved for Pittsburgh to continue another dynasty for the next two decades.

They need darts still.....
Yep, I hope Grier entertains the idea of trading Walman. Top 4 defenseman always command a premium at the treat deadline, and he can return us a first rounder.

While the Eklunds are highly unlikely to be HHOFers like the Sedins, there are some parallels in terms of chemistry. William is the shifty cycling lefty playmaker and Victor is the crash-and-bang righty sniper. I really think they'd have insane chemistry. Alternatively, Victor would fit perfectly with, say, Smith and Musty.

Fun to dream. Don't think there's any way we land Young Ekky. I think he's comfortably #5 in this draft, and the only reason he could fall to the teens would be if teams really really do not want a small winger (a la Lekkerimaki).

Right, and specifically in this draft I think #26 and #33 (if we keep both picks) will help us build our barren RHD pipeline.

Didn't someone here call Granlund + Ceci to Dallas months ago?
yes, me a few times:

The most notable thing about this trade is this pretty much solidifies the tank and guarantees us a last place finish this season. It'd take a miracle to even win 10 of our remaining games with Granlund and Ceci no longer in the fold.
I agree however, as much as most of us have been bagging on Smith he’s been pretty improved as of late of course that could be because of Granny but it could also be because he’s getting caught back up. Grier is likely to eat a contract to acquire more draft capital moving forward

I just love that this gives Grier options. Moving up may not be the right move, it may not make sense, but it's now a possibility if someone falls, if a good deal is there to be had, if the Sharks' evaluation of somebody makes it worth moving up--but it also simply gives the option of more darts or the possibility of bringing in a good established or promising young player.

So yeah, options! Would Grier have made the move of sending the Devils' second rounder out to move up to help get Dickinson last year had he not also acquired the Detroit second? Again, just smart moves all around to create possibilities, which is one of the greatest currencies you can have as a rebuilding team. Color me impressed yet again.

I guess it depends if
A) they play relentlessly as Wars ranted about after last game
B) how the AHL call ups perform

(And how the other team plays).

At this point I'd say the biggest factor is if opposing teams don't show up for games against the Sharks, and with so many of our upcoming opponents likely to be in the playoff hunt, I find that quite unlikely--I think we're down to 5-10 games where the opponent might have nothing to play for at the time of the game.

We're obviously not going to win all of those, and it's going to be tough to win any of the rest since the AHL call-ups aren't exactly world-beaters, as we know already, so getting out of the bottom two feels almost impossible at this point, realistically speaking.

Grier is the master of initial reaction, mediocre, long term, absolutely fleeced trades.

Getting 2 firsts for EK65 was a masterclass, especially considering the year prior people thought we’d have to attach 2 1st and retain to move him.

The haul for Timo is looking great too. Timo is on pace for 58 points over 82 games. Zetterlund isn’t too far behind himself, and we also got Musty and Muk.

Someone posted on here the other day that the Sharks have the 3rd hardest strength of schedule remaining in all of the NHL.
As of today, yes, still 3rd hardest remaining SoS. It does move a lot when you play one of the worst/best teams.

Next year? No.

Vlasic's career is done once his contract expires. Walman's been pretty bad since returning. Lot of defensive errors.
I’m curious if Grier buys him out next season or if there’s a respect there’s that he will let him play it out

Timo got paid and he quit working, but then again Keefe has said they want him playing more of a 2 way game so it’s costing him points.

Musty and Muk are far from being sure fire wins , right now the trade looks at best even given Zetts performance
