We don't desperately want a cup as evidence by such pathetic moves to try for one.

Ceci isn't a player a team wanting a cup brings on. Same could be said of signing Dumba and Lyubushkin. Lyubushkin had been fine enough at least, but a roster with all 3 is about as unserious as a team can get. It's basically a dcore you'd roll out of you were trying to tank not compete

I don't care about the 1st in and of itself. It's that it was pissed away on nothing, much like the Nils trade.

Yet he was on the Oilers in the SCF and now he is on the Stars who want another deep run.

Your analysis seems off.

Looking at his basic stats, he’s been a plus player the past several season besides this year (and -9 isn’t terrible considering who he played for). I’m not a fan of him whatsoever, however, I’m willing to see what he can bring to the team.

I'm pretty sure Cody Ceci wouldn't get 20+ minutes ATOI if he was that bad.

Overexposed in his time in Ottawa, basically put back into #4 role everywhere else...

He's a #4 Dman who has been asked to be overexposed consistently at the NHL level. He won't set the world on fire, and his world won't be set on fire here. He will play 19-20 reliable minutes a night and thats all we can ask for right now.

Getting a 20 minute a night reliable #4 when there is literally /nothing/ else available and a top 9 slot anywhere forward for a first that has a very slim chance of even sniffing the NHL and a pick we don't care about... going to a team that's not going to be competing for 5-7 years...

Not a terrible deal, but the rental market is basically nonexistent given how tight the East is and the very limited amount of UFAs there are.

The oilers who have 2 generational forwards that are able to outscore their defensive issues, that's your basis?

There's a reason that every fanbase that suffer through his play wants him gone. There's also a reason they dumped him this off-season.(some of it cap related)
He sucks, he's somewhere between Dumba and Suter.

Good god we are looking at a trifecta of shit defensemen in a 2yr period, Nill needs to retire before he gives any more term to another trash blueliner

Joel Hanley also was on a team in the SCF, and he sucks too.

Oilers rode one of the best pk to the final and ceci was a big part of that if you want to stop those two generational talents ceci is going to help with that.

Given Dallas need to probably needs to have Harley off the PK for the rest of the regular season too, adding Ceci keeps the PK with some strength to it.

Dammit Nill, first Swedish Honka and now this - he sure does get bad value out of his first round picks when he trades them. He should just trade previous seasons' first rounders and use the current one for another draft pick.

I also strongly disagree with him calling Stankoven and Bourque unavailable. He should be shopping one of those two for a solid middle pairing RHD with term, or even both for a top pairing RHD with term. Maybe he is though, and he's just feeding the media nonsense like he usually does. :dunno:

I do agree with not moving Bichsel though - you don't give him up unless it's for a Dman in his prime who already is what Bichsel will be a few years from now.

I feel like you've been unusually grumpy lately, for even your standards.

Which made me a little curious. What is a successful trade deadline in your mind? Do you have any specific players in mind?

Btw, Ceci has 15 points and is a -9 whereas Andersson has 19 points and is -10. We basically got Andersson 😉😜

You're gonna have to start providing actual examples of better moves instead of shitting on everything and saying "they should've done better".

Buying out Suter made me think they were finally serious about going for it.
Like they were actually going to try instead of living by the "anything can happen in the PO" mantra.
Then they turned around and signed Dumba and Lyubushkin and it has just sapped any possible good feeling these next 2 seasons could have possible have for me.

It's like wanting a boat and getting to choose between a mystery box and a boat, and taking the mystery box because it could be anything, even a boat.

It's been hard to even enjoy the games this year when they do the equivalent of throwing in the towel before the season started. Like I used to buy tickets to about 30-35 games a year and have gone to 0 for the first time in about 25yrs.

Then you hear they are "big game hunting" and you start to think ok maybe they are actually serious about going for a cup, and the Dumba and Lyubushkin deals were just the panic signings they appeared to be.
Though I don't know how you give 2 and 3yrs to them, there could not have been any sort of bidding war for Dumba.

To then hear he's looking at UFA only, and seeing a whole bunch of garbage names as upcoming UFAs, to then see this wet fart of an addition. It's literally the same shit every year, just keeps kicking the can down the road. He keeps hoping he stumbles into a winning lotto ticket instead of trying to stack the odds.
Winning a cup takes an a lot of luck as is, but he's taking a revolver with 5 rounds in it and hoping to get the 1 chamber that's empty to come up.

Eventually he's gonna run out of "next years" to kick the can down the road to. ( 1 maybe 2yrs from now)

If he'd have dumped Dumba to SJ, I would consider that a success.
A 1st for a decent, albeit unnecessary, forward, who historically struggles in the PO, and another bad defensemen is just a poor use of assets. It's a lot like trading for Lundkvist again, you get nothing useful out of it.

At least if they dumped Dumba in the trade you could understand the inflated cost, and sell Ceci as a bit of an upgrade.

If Ceci is the best thats actually available ( highly doubt) and they aren't dumping Dumba, you're literally better of standing still, you cannot give this coaching staff the freedom to dress Dumba, Ceci, Lyubushkin and in the event of injury Smith at the same time.
The simple fact that they keep giving Dumba games, much like they did with Suter, just shows how f***ing stupid they are. Until Heiskanens injury there was 0 reason for him to play games.

An example of a successful deadline would have been Tanev And hanifin last year. Or Tanev and another defender
Addresses the biggest weaknesses on the team and gives them the best chance to win a cup. Both went for peanuts too. Instead we had PO games where 1 defensemen, ironically not the one that made the most mistakes, played 2-5mins despite that another was a glorified traffic cone.

It doesn't matter, it's just to hard to give a shit about the team anymore.
