Prospect Info: Grand Rapids Griffins Discussion

I’m not sure we end up with that many rookies on the roster. Every year the fanbase overestimates how many rookies they’ll be on opening night and then gets disappointed. I could see any or all of those guys starting in GR. I can’t see more than 2 or 3 of those guys making it along with Mazur.

But I’ve been wrong before. Maybe we land Marner at a painful number and need to fill a lot of holes with cheap ELCs.
I don’t doubt we won’t have that many rookies but this is a problem Yzerman causes by delaying putting them in yearly.

I even forgot mazur ... look at the ages of these guys most should be on, that’s why I suggested dealing wallinder for Lukas fischer so we get someone younger who can be delayed

Wallinder and tuomisto are what 23-24? It’s now or never ... buchelnikov will likely go back to the khl one season. Nygaard and pellika would likely play on another nhl tea, but with us we’ll be lucky to see one

Danielson mazur will 100% make the team and the way lombardi is going I’d say unless his camp and pre season goes bad he has a legit shot

I’d much rather get rid of tarasenko compher etc... and play more kids

If we trade compher in a deal for Bertuzzi or just get someone else in a trade ...

Bertuzzi larkin raymond
debrincat Kasper soderblom
Lombardi copp danielson
? Rasmussen mazur

I can see 3 rookies playing upfront and 1 of wallinder/tuomisto/pellika

Nice feed from lombardi on the 4-2 goal, Yzerman has no chance but to play a ton of rookies next season after delaying everyone

Lombardi danielson wallinder tuomisto pellika nygaard , buchelnikov if he comes down all fighting for spots ... Yzerman needs to get rid of a ton of deadweight this off season
And every effing one of those guys you mentioned better be on the team next year. Not to mention Cossa and Buium

Lombardi Kasper Soderblom
Cat Larkin Raymond
Mazur Compher Danielson
Rasmussen Motte Watson
? Seider
Edvinsson -ASP
Chiarot AJo
Rather get rid of copp over compher at this point , 1 less year with copp ...I’m ok with Watson being 13-14. I’d like to see more toughness added on this roster though, tired of being pushed around

I think Danielson and Mazur have the inside edge but Ammo is going to make it real hard to send him down. If Yzerman finds a deal for Berg I think he takes his spot. Danielson will replace one of Compher or Copp. Mazur takes the Tank spot.
I think after seeing the impact Kasper made this year, you have to pencil Mazur and Danielson in full time. Lombardi is a weird one, he needs to add some muscle this off-season but I think he would make the wings better. I see a scenario where he has a solid camp and comes up later in the year full time. I think Lombardi is better off in the AHL than on a 4th line, but 3rd line and maybe some PP time? That's a good spot for him. With the way he's ending this season though... really hard to send him down if he has a good camp

There's no reason to pencil MBN into the lineup. He can do some scoring in the AHL and get a call up if needed. SHL is a good league, but you don't get pencilled into an NHL lineup as a rookie coming off a 5 goal season

Yeah I think MBN is likely in GR next year so he can have a year to really focus on offense. Maybe get a late callup. They are going to have a ton of rookies next year so I just don't see them rushing him unless he just kills it at camp.

I think Ammo and ASP make it if they have that strong off season in the weight room. The Wings could really use their dynamic play.

Mazur and Danielson I feel are the safe bets. MBN could steal Mazurs spot if he doesn't stay healthy.

Buch is another outside factor. If he comes over he is making the team probably over Ammo.

Griffs have him listed at 178. So a bit more muscle, but I'm not sure how much he can add to his frame. I'm looking forward to the possibility of having a bunch of kids inserted up front. With how ineffective Compher, Rasmussen, and Tank have been this year, there is no reason to write them into the top9, and I don't have a problem not signing guys to fill those spots. Put the kids there and run with it.

edit: ASP is listed at 185 lbs, roughly the same size as Makar and Fox. At 5'11'', like Lombardi, I'm not sure there is a lot of space there for weight gains. I think ASP is on the team next year.

I’d add one forward and one defenseman and then cull the dead weight and let kids play. So one of Bennett or Ehlers ideally and then Provorov on D.
Dump Gustafsson, Compher, Holl. Either dump Tarasenko or hope for a bounce back season from him.

Danielson-Larkin-Raymond
Debrincat-Kasper-Bennett
Lombardi-Copp-Tarasenko
Soderblom-Ras-Mazur
Motte

Provorov-Seider
Edvinsson-ASP
Chiarot-Johansson
Wallinder

ASP should absolutely get a game or two.

A cup of coffee will be good for his development. Give him a taste of the speed and intensity of the big league before the offseason.

If he is half decent I think his skill could create some genuine excitement within the team.

It’s been a slow rebuild but to show waves of talent will help keep guys like Larkin, Cat, Kane, Copp etc from getting frustrated.

First Mo and Ray
Now Ed Kasper and Al Jo
Next ASP Danielson etc.

Griffins have 3 regular season games left; Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. IMO, no question ASP and MBN join GR in practice during the coming days and debut on Wednesday in Iowa against the Wild, the leagues 3rd worst team

They'll play 16+ minutes and be primed to be relied on heavily in the playoff run. I'm so excited, this is gonna be huge for them and the boys in GR. Better than playing 3 games in Detroit where they'll get less ice time

Yup they'll both fit in very well. I think ASP is a lock to run the PP, and hopefully MBN gets some run as well.

ASP running that PP has me salivating

They'll surely have MBN on PP2 to start for the one-timer threat (likely bumping off Finnie from the unit), something they haven't had all year. Danielson has been roaming around and landing in the bumper a lot lately too, and could probably facilitate some plays from there to MBN left open to fire the cannon

I think you need to give them more time. MBN said he doesn't know when he heads for NA, but has been told by Wings management he'll get more info next week, should be the same for ASP. Keep in mind they need to adjust to the new time zone, get to know their new team and practice with them for a while. I doubt they'll play any of those remaining regular season games for GR, but we'll see.

Johansson is the only one. Kasper, Elmer and Ed could all be sent down.

But guys aren't eligible for AHL playoffs. They should have been technically on the roster at the trade deadline to do so.

Guys are NHLrs.

From the Griff's website...I think all of these players are considered roster, I don't know how to confirm that the DRWs papered them before the trade deadline or not, but I would expect they did. Ed was never on the Griffs this year, nor Al-Jo and JB, so they certainly wouldn't be eligible for the AHL playoff run.

Some reinforcements would be welcomed by the Griffs I am sure, Mazur is injured, but I suspect the other 4 would certainly bolster things. Be interesting to see how ASP and MBN fit too, sounds like both are coming over.

I cant remember who was or wasn't sent down on paper, but they need to be sent down around trade deadline time to be eligible for AHL playoffs.
