Prospect Info: Grand Rapids Griffins Discussion

im a size queen when it comes to d and c , but theres all kinds of below average size wingers im a fan of . they can become monsters in the o zone whom generate tons of chances . and thats exactly what ammo can do ! high level edges / hands / smarts / wheels . if he is quick thinking and hard bodied enough to take nhl traffic hes an nhler scoring lots of points . dreaming of a powerplay with ammo n butchy n pelli = electric ⚡⚡⚡

Finnie, kasper, and Danielson are all natural Cs imo. I think finnie is projecting to be a 4c maybe more. But that’s good size for them and all 3 guys are trending to be good at faceoffs, and they commit to 2 way play. C has quickly become a strong suit for us in our prospect pool.
I don't know about Finnie as center. I don't think he is more center than Lombardi, Plante and Becher

I agree, playing Lombardi at C is making him do more of what he isn't the best at, and less of what he is great at. Some players (Kasper, Danielson) are simply cut out to be very strong defensively and they make great centers, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with letting someone like Lombardi unleash his offense on the wing. Its not even that he is a bad defensive player, it just isn't his strong suit.
I watched him live once this year and really couldn't imagine constricting Lombardi to one side of the ice with the way he can move out there. He's completely fine defensively, more a cerebral type defensively but still solid.

I wouldn't think about moving Lombardi anywhere until he shows he cant play there at the next level.
I'm sure this is some recency bias on my part, and I'm assuming Larkin is injured...but given how this last month or so has gone..I'm starting to wonder if Kasper might takeover 1C eventually?
He's absolutely shown that he could do that. I think he's somewhat noticeably better than Larkin actually at the same age, and way more of a stronger, natural center. WOuldnt surprise me at all if he overtakes Larkin, or if they at least become a 1A 1B type situation

Yet again another goal for lombardi , any chance he makes the roster? That 2nd we gifted away like it was Christmas in the Walman trade and the 1st or 2nd we could have had him for him if we actually traded him properly sure would come in handy to help get rid of some actual deadweights on this roster to create spots

Nate gets rewarded for his good play gets bumped up to the first pp to start the 3rd but he's soft and doesnt move his feet and allows Rockford scores short handed.

But Lombardi gets the goal back potting a rebound the very next shift.

Another fun win! 7-5 although they had to hold on a bit harder for this one. Dom Shine is the greatest AHL player of all time. The Brent Gretzky of the AHL, if you will

My 3.5 stars:
1) Lombardi
2) Danielson
3) Finnie/Tuomisto

Lines:

Snively - Danielson - Watson
Lombardi - Dries - Shine
Finnie - Becher - Gettinger
Bantle - Seger - Johannes

Wallinder - Tuomisto
Buium - Johansson
Knyzhov - Didier

Campbell

Danielson: A+
• ASSIST - Watson chips a puck up the boards to Snively but he's checked so Danielson streaks in, tries to beat the D but gets kind of tied up, gets loose and spins to pass across to Watson who's trailing in and he deposits it into the empty cage

ASSIST - created the breakout and zone entry on this shift all the way 200 feet down behind his own own net. Puck support-retrieve puck-pass-receive puck-carry. Then after some possession and zone time, his errant pass goes to Snively behind the goal and he feeds Tuomisto who blasted a rocket from the right point

ASSIST - Hog's empty net, off Gettinger's interception he gathers the puck at center ice, controls it and moves it Watson who fires into the empty net

Takes the breakout pass at his blueline and enters zone up the LW, head fake, drop pass to Snively and Danielson goes to the net, gets the pass and tips it just over the net from right in front. He fooled the defender as the drove the middle of the ice too. Smart play

Wheeling on the PP up top and feeds Becher through traffic for a tip shot attempt that gets stopped

Chip pass to calm things down to AnJo who started the breakout on the Finnie goal

I'll say, I'm not sure if it was miscommunication between him and Buium on the SHG against but he also let the guy split between him and another Griffin and walk in for the goal. Weird sequence

Lombardi: A+
• GOAL - WOW what a beautiful goal, carries from his own end, beats the defender out wide, goes backhand-forehand around the goalie as he's falling to the ice

GOAL - immediately answers the Hogs SHG with a PPG of his own, shot squeaks through the short side arm of Commesso

ASSIST - great patience to slow things down once entered the zone, sees Didier coming in behind him so he cuts into the middle taking the Hogs D-man with him this creating space, drops the pass off to Didier. His shot goes right off the pad to Shine and he buries from the low left circle

Made a spinning backhand pass on the 2 on 1 to fool the defender, trickles to Dries and goalie comes way out to challenge and stop him

Wallinder: B+
• Great hustle coming back to poke the puck off a Hog's stick as the attempts to drive the net

Takes a breakout pass from Dries, goes for a skate, give and go with Shine and Wallinder sifts a pass through to Shine who doesn't quite pull the trigger on the left crease doorstep

Buium: A-
• Good 1 on 1 PP defense not letting Sanford beat him

Made a crucial block in front off a slot chance after some Hog's sustained zone time. He then chips the puck to Lombardi, out of danger

Tuomisto: A
• GOAL - huge bomb from the point. Nice to see him finally get another one of those

Becher: B+
• Good puck support and retrieves it to start breakout

Quiet game, but sturdy play overall

Johansson: A-
• ASSIST - finds Lombardi who does it all and trucks to the net for the solo effort

ASSIST - fed Shine who fired it off the pad and a huge rebound way out to Ammo who scores on the PP

ASSIST - takes the chip from Danielson, feeds Watson and then works magic to find Finnie for the goal

Picks up the puck in the circle heading back into his DZ and instead of using Buium as a passing option behind the net, he tries to button hook and go up the middle to split two Hogs. One bumped him he lost possession, and then he had to defend where the Hog beat him and slipped the puck under his stick across the crease. Close call. Griffins had to spend an extra 40 seconds defending

Displayed a good stick in front of his own net to deflect a pass to a man on the doorstep

I know, 3 assists and a A- rating. He was generally rough to watch most of the time defensively. Nice to see him get rewarded on the scoresheet for his first 3 AHL points

Finnie: A
• GOAL - breaks in off a perfect flighted chip from Watson and he buries his first pro goal low glove side shooting in stride!!

Good stick defensively

Good anticipation off the boards to intercept a clear out by Rockford
