Benson is a teenager with the best defensive impacts on his team..and absurd ones for a teenager on any team

If you’re just trying to count stats…they’ve predictably started coming when he stopped playing with Lafferty and Malenstyn and started playing with Tage and Kulich

Yes, Benson is a responsible forward. He's still 5'9 (or is he up to 5'10?) and right now I like the 6-2 200 foot center's longterm potential defensive impact more.

Just my opinion of course. If Detroit didn't already have Raymond and DeBrincat as their top 2 forwards maybe I'd feel differently.

Benson is a Mark Stone style forward. He's not a "responsible" forward. He's an elite defensive forward.

We don't need to put other players down to celebrate ours. Benson is a defensive beast and will be throughout his career.

Anyone know if jan bednar signed a 1 or 2 year deal??? I'd like to see us give him a team deal as well as g.r,didn't like that he never got a deal here

Only turning 23 in August ,has the size been putting better numbers than gylander in Toledo ... what are the chances yzerman actually kicks out talbot and goes cossa mrazek next season???

Bednar gylander in g.r + Augustine in Toledo for a year?? Or we move gylander in a package deal and get a veteran nhl goalie there, Campbell back ?? Or gylander Augustine tandem in toledo

I'd say with cossa augustine guimond bednar gylander we shouldn't draft a goalie for a few years

Conversely, we don't need to be putting down our players to celebrate others that we chose not to take, especially when ours hasn't even played 1 NHL game yet
No we just need to be making some attempts for higher skill rather than only drafting safe players. However, our NA scouting is terrible - that's not really debatable.
Define "safe"? Are we still thrusting Kasper under this totally unambiguous term? Not every player without obvious "flash and dazzle" is a low ceiling checking line player who can't pass nor see the ice well

Also if our NA scouting has been terrible, it therefore shall and must always be terrible then? Not sure that's a fallacy I can get down with, especially with players that are being carefully developed, rather than rushed currently

Let's wait until our more recently higher drafted NA skaters fare in the NHL before drawing on any conclusions (Danielson, Cossa, Augustine, Plante, James, Cleveland)

Looks like it was a one year deal for this season.

Any news on the wings signing red savage and him probably being a griffin next season? Anyone think we just won’t sign him and we’ll lose his rights?

Not sure, but I've heard nothing about him for quite some time which isn't usually a great sign. He only played 20 games this year and put up 11 points. Looks like he had a season ending injury back in January. He's a team captain which usually carries a lot of weight with the DRW organization, so perhaps there's a chance they sign him.

Gonna take a guess here that Danielson will have an amazing A+ game, creating tons of offensive scoring opportunities and will finish -1 0 points 2 SOG.
if you don't like @Our Lady Peace rating system maybe you should watch every single griffins game and provide in-depth analyses of our top prospects with your own grading scale. i for one greatly appreciate and value the effort they put into it and applaud them for making a positive contribution to the forum, rather than someone who pops in after every string of losses just to stir the pot

Stone is 6'4. Having the same defensive impact as a 5'10 forward is astronomically difficult, like saying Johansson is the next Chara.

It's funny how things evolve. When he was passed in the draft everyone was moaning how Red Wings passed on talented offensive minded skilled center to draft another version of Kasper, who already was a bust. Now two 30 point seasons later, Red Wings missed out on a elite defensive winger, who might provide some offense down the road. Goalposts had quite a journey, i would say.

I'll tell you, if in the 2025 draft Detroit drafts a 5'10 winger and highlights his defensive game as his best asset, this board is going to implode.

Where did I say he might provide some offense down the road? He was never a C so not sure where that’s from. But he’s absolutely an offensive minded forward and his best attribute isn’t his defense. Don’t get me wrong - if Benson doesn’t put up 70+ pts in his prime, I’ll be very disappointed in this progress. You act like 30 pt seasons are embarrassing or something..he’s a year younger than as Kasper

Strange things happens sometimes, like 5'10" Konstantinov , probably best defensive defansman in Red Wings ever

Griffs start the 3rd up 2-1, give up two goals, and Lombardi scores a weird goal. Dries sends the puck in front of the net and the puck goes in the off Lombardi as he is down on his knees sliding in to the net. After review, good goal. 3-3 with 6:25 left.

At 5:16 the Wolves may have scored to break the tie, another review. Ref says goal, the Wolves thought it was a goal, the Griffins dont think the puck was ever in. I didnt see the puck go in. Shoot, good goal. 4-3 Wolves.

With the goalie pulled Dries gets a breakaway with about 20 seconds left and doesn't capitalize. Both an entertaining yet extremely disappointing 3rd.

without aljo around to handle puck from back end griffs cant generate much o . its such a change from 1st half of season , with aljo , when they were rocking even with mazur n ammo out . and now were seein in detroit how smart and good of a puck processing dman aljo is , griffs cant get over him graduating

4-3 loss. Team has been full-on dog shit defensively lately. They're gonna get stomped in the playoffs. Felt bad for Cossa in this one as he set the tone and the team has a meltdown in the 3rd

Side note, I've been loving the 4th line lately, they're all big and can command the space around the ice even if they're not the most skilled. Johannes is a unit out there

Lines:

Lombardi - Dries - Doucet
Snively - Danielson - Gettinger
Finnie - Becher - Hanas
Bantle - Seger - Johannes

Wallinder - Tuomisto
Buium - Johansson
Viro - Rafferty

Cossa

Danielson: B
• Wasn't very good on the faceoff dot tonight

Creating space for himself along the boards very well. Unfortunately nothing really materialized at all

Went for a rush with the puck breaking into the zone goes around the net and feeds Dries open in the high slot, but the shot gets deflected wide

Escaping pressure defensively nicely even when an immediate option for support isn't available to him. Can hold onto the puck and make a really calm play without expelling hardly any energy

Cossa: A-
• You can't fault him for tonight... Honestly this team gifted Chicago all 4 goals and thus giving them the win tonight

Tonnes of big stops to the start the game as the Griffins wanted to make it hard on him apparently. Looked extremely poised and unflappable. Griffins made an errant drop pass on the PP and he stops the breakaway. That same PP expired and Rafferty made a bad pinch + penalized player came out of the box... 3 on 1 and Cossa makes a diving spread eagle stop and just got enough where the puck lands on the goal line and Griffins recover and get a whistle

1st goal Griffins break down in the OZ and a partial 2 on 1 gets Cossa sliding, then Tuomisto is too weak on his stick in front and the Chicago player gets a weak tap in goal on a gaping wide net

2nd goal was a well executed passing play to the bumper and he sniped

3rd was a complete defensive meltdown... No chance really

4th goal right after Lombardi fricken ties it... Just a joke of a scramble in front and Chicago jams the puck in on the post

Lombardi: A+
• Goaaaaaal! Displays superb patience on the 2 on 1, deceptive stick handle to freeze Martin and goes 5-hole

ANOTHER goal!!! Dries dangles and shows nice patience, backhand pass to Ammo who's just going to the paint and fighting off his checm, he gets a stick on it and gets it past Martin to tie the game and answer back quick

Dancing in the circle after retrieving the puck and feeds Doucet with a short pass and he shoots just over the net

Sent Johannes on a breakaway off a broken play in the NZ, Johannes almost goes top corner but a good save

Nice patience to pass in a 2 on 1 to feed Dries and he almost dangled out Martin but he denied him

Late 2nd he breaks in, goes inside-outside on the D and stays balanced on the outside leg with a guy pushing him off the puck to feed Johannes right in the slot but Martin stones him. He did it again mid 3rd and feeds Dries but shot gets deflected

Wallinder: B
• Showing off the hands and feet coordination to evade pressure inside the OZ blueline

He's definitely aggressive and I wonder about how that will work in the NHL. Under pressure, I also wonder about his reads with and without the puck, at least in the DZ. He play over the past couple months has instilled faith in me. I'd love if he became a shutdown guy. His play on PK is generally the most impressive part of his defensive game

Buium: B-
• Tries to rush up ice and he gets his pocket picked in the NZ and Chicago goes for a 2 on 1. He had 1, probably 2 open passing options

He was super slow at the end with the extra man. Needs better acceleration and foot speed over the summer to be able to take the next step as a prospect for us

Tuomisto: C+
• Weak on his stick in front for the first Griffins goal and they tap into the open net

Takes a low seeing eye shot through legs and Martin makes a nice pad save, unsure if he even saw the puck

I'm not seeing any standout play really, but he's had some brain-dead gaffes and reads that will hold him from making out roster. Yes, even our bad defensive core in Detroit

Becher: B
• His initial forecheck as F1 started things for Griffins goal #1, then Finnie came in as F2

He had a 2 on 1 with Gettinger and overskated the puck and fumbles it at the hashmarks

Kinda invisible game until the last 30 seconds when he fired a hard pass up the middle 6 on 5 to Dries and he gets stoned on the breakaway... Sigh...

Johansson: C+
• Hands are quite sick and has lots of confidence on the breakout to carry the puck under the pressure. Not to mention he will fire the puck up ice when he sees the need to. Sometimes though, the stretch passes are maybe too aggressive and he ices the puck

I worry about his defensive reads so far, but he has time and turns 21 soon anyway

Finnie: B+
• Very good defensively, showing off his habits there as a C even though he played LW today again

Great pressure on the half wall forces Chicago to cough it up right to Gettinger down main street and he wires it home

Confidence in puck carrying and creating space for himself when he needs, or getting the puck deep when necessary

Mid 2nd PP2 fires a fast cross ice pass to Becher who gets a shot off. I was not expecting that pass at all

Early 3rd he fires a pass up ice catching Chicago off guard and Becher goes for a clear 2 on 1 with Gettinger... Becher fumbled the puck at the hashmarks

It was just one period I saw tonight, but Lombardi was easily the best player on either team in the 3rd. Every time I see him play he just makes things happen in the offensive zone. He can make plays, shoot the puck, has good speed, great 1 on 1 skills, makes decisions quickly. One of those players who always ends up with the puck on his stick. Just a phenomenal offensive player. If he didn't get injured earlier this year I think he would have a lot more hype as a prospect.

Yep since he's been put on wing he's been unleashed offensively. He should stay there as he moves up the ranks, I think that's where we're gonna get the best results outta him from
