Kasper is contributing nothing except being a 4th line plug with almost the fewest minutes on the team. He should be sent down if anything to get some confidence back.
Team evaluation is the reason AJo is not playing and Kasper low minutes . It will take some time for new coach to figure out what is going on
If team continue winning games , don't expect big trades, but if they start loosing again we should see guys who doesn't produce will be loose and Kasper moved up.

10 min per game ain't meaningful minutes, those are Motte minutes. And if Wings doesn't make the playoffs, after the regular season why shouldn't Ed play in playoffs? It's better than doing nothing.
Players who play the season up in the NHL doesn't get sent down for the playoffs in the AHL.

Hockey players wants to play hockey. Besides then there would be Ed, ASP, Cossa, Danielson, Kasper, MBN, Mazur, all the top prospects at the same time. Creating chemistry and if they would win the Calder Cup, that experience alone would carry them far. All the players, everywhere in the world has said that when they win a championship together, they are brothers for life. How unique situation that would be, all the top prospects at the same time. As a one cohesive unit, they later would carry the Red Wings.

I think Elmer is actually too big to play the game that everyone wants him to (or that he needs to). Playing super physical results in you stopping your feet a lot (lots of start and stop skating), which puts these super big guys at a massive disadvantage. He can play when he is moving, but he is very ineffective from a full stop. I think we see the exact same thing with Ras if I am being frank. I have come to realize that there are diminishing returns to being super, super big as a forward.
That's a broad stroke there.... 100m record holder Usain Bolt is 6'5". In terms of hockey, Tom Wilson is 6'4" and throws over 200 hits per season.

Elmer and Raz just don't accelerate well. I don't think it's height related. There are plenty of slow skaters that are short.

Pretty sure Becher injury before beginning of the season effects his speed. Yzerman just signed him for 3 years, means he believes in him.
Can Elmer replace Rasmussen, Tuomisto or Buium replace Holl?
The length of ELC contract depends on age as outlined in the CBA. Stevie had no choice but to sign Becher/Nate/Lombardi/etc for 3 years.

we should send larkin too
LOL, you spelled Compher wrong.

If its going to be 4th line minutes long term I'm pro swapping Kasper for Watson/Soderblom. If we are talking a week or two as Todd figures guys out and Stevie maybe showcases some guys for trade then its fine. Kasper can at least get confidence and work on his offensive game at the AHL level.

Zero chance Ed goes down for the playoffs. He's playing like a top pair dman at the NHL level. There is nothing for him to work on at the AHL level.

We need to see if Wally, Buium, Tuo, ASP, etc can step up their games and play top minutes at the AHL level not confirm what we already know about Ed.

A championship. I for one would like to see our prospects getting use to +82 game seasons, when NHL regular season is over, i see AHL playoffs as much better option for our top prospect instead of beach or golf course in Florida.

The key word there is "prospects". Ed is no longer a prospect, he's a 20-plus minute top four NHLer who is playing by far his most demanding pro hockey season. Those guys don't get sent down. Otherwise yes, all prospects if available should be in GR, the only requirement being they fit into the style pf play of what is already a very good team that may not need much help to win the Calder.

If Ed was in GR for playoffs, it wouldn't be to learn more stuff, it would be to get playoff time in, and I can easily see Steve sending him to GR for the playoff experience.

For a prospect that can grow I'd agree. Kasper is someone I could see using this extra time to hone his game and work on his offense. He can play at the NHL level but I'd say his offensive game still leaves a lot to be desired. We want him to be a top 6 offensive player and he isn't there yet. In fact in most cases he is being relied upon to be the defensive guy on his line, so he isn't in position to be the go to offensive guy on his line. He would be that player at the AHL level, so going down could be beneficial to him.

Ed is already a 1st pairing dman at an NHL level. He is playing 20-25 minutes a night. Outside of maybe some PP time he isn't going to improve at the AHL level. In fact he may develop lazy habits playing against non NHLers. Then you take into account the extra wear and tear on his body and potential risk of injury. The SC/Long run hangover is a real thing too. Not to mention the extra physicality of the playoffs tends to lead to more injuries.

I think another off season in the weight room and working on skills like shooting, skating (not so much in Eds case), etc is better use of the couple of months off. Ed seems like a super competitive guy so I don't think he'll be Big Buffing it in the off season and just laying around. A lot of these guys lose 10-20lbs over the season just do to the compressed schedule and need the off season to come back at a pristine weight for the following.

You kinda answered to your own question. I don't believe that Ed would develop bad habits during a playoff stint because he is a super competitive guy.

And there is a risk of injury in every game they play, if that would worry them, they would not play hockey. Hockey players wants compete for championships, hypothetically there could be a chance for Ed to that.

I value long playoff run experience over a extra month in the weight room. Long playoff run that hopefully ends up in championship victory will be a lot more rewarding, experience that unites all of our top prospects and the fact after that they know from the wear and tear what it actually takes to win 4 playoff series. And that just in AHL, that prepares them better for the NHL playoffs.

Why didn't the Hawks send Bedard to the AHL after last season?

Think the Sharks are gonna send Celebrini down this year?

Michkov?

NHLers stay up...
Bedard was 18 last season, like Celebrini is now. They can't play in AHL. Michkov could play, that's up to Philly and can their AHL affiliate reach playoffs.
Kasper, Ed, and MBN will probably play in the WC after the season. Possibly ASP too.
Well that is possible but rather have them in GR than in WHC.
