My guess is if Pegs is pulling the strings we end up with Lindy. If Adams has full control we end up with Appert.

Adams knows he won't get another coaching hire so he won't care about the optics of hiring another unproven. He will just want to hire the person he things has the greatest chance to succeed and he thinks highly of Appert.

Pegs picks Lindy because Pegs loves him some former Buffalo people.

I was 100% on the Bruce train a couple years ago, but I'm not sure where I am with him now. There's certainly a lot of ideas out there I would hate a lot more, so that's something.

I'll also go against the grain a little bit and say that I'm not reflexively opposed to Appert. If they hire him without a proper search, sure, hand me a torch and pitchfork. But I think he'll be an NHL HC at some point relatively soon, whether it's with Buffalo or someone else. If he does well in the interview and legitimately feels like a better choice than some of the retread options, fine. whatever.

Question about hierarchy though: what would typically be seen as the "higher level" positon: NHL assistant or AHL head coach? In other words, if Appert did get promoted to HC, would bringing Peca back as a Rochester's coach be a promotion of sorts? Demotion? Lateral move? I'm intrigued enough by him that I'd like to have him back in the org if possible, but I'm absolutely not ready to hand him the reigns in Buffalo.
If Appert got the gig, perhaps get Peca back as 'associate head coach', which would be a promotion.

The way Adams has started and hammering about taking the next step even though he had to fire a guy he loves and respected…

No way they’re just sliding Appert or another first timer in there. Wouldn’t make any sense

They could be of the same mind frame. Adams might also see Ruff as the best option for a few reasons.

Ruff had success in Dallas, and is very experienced coaching young teams. He's coached defensive teams, offensive teams, heavy teams, and run and run teams. He's got communications skills at all level of player experience, so what he says will resonate with the young guys and the older guys.

Kudos to Granato for getting many of the young players on track. He did his job taking a team of failing players and turning them into much better players (Dahlin, Thompson, returning Skinner to normal, etc).

But they need an experienced coach now. If I'm Adams, I'm going with Ruff or someone like him. The advantage of Ruff is that he's beloved in the community. As a GM, that just lengthens his rope with the team, because there will be a honeymoon period with Ruff.

Agree - Kevyn looks PISSED at missing the playoffs. He is ready to throw out any excuse about "young" "growing". He wants to win and wants experience behind the bench

Appert wont be the selection. Experienced, previous winners, knows how to bring a team into the playoffs.

So who are the experienced coaches Adams would key in on?

Berube
Ruff
Quennville?
Bourdeau
maybe Mike Sullivan if he is let go?

I got way more things I wanted today than I ever expected. Practically pounding the table about young not being an excuse anymore and straight talk about raising the standard and expectations for this team. Passionate and, unlike so many of the times I’ve heard him the last two years, didn’t ring phony at all.

Berube or Ruff for me. Is Sullivan good at working with young players? And we don't have Sid and Malkin yet.
