Hope he does well. A decent Olympics could translate into some good success for the team back home.

It looks like Peter Laviolette feels Grahame is our best chance in goal. I can't say that I blame him, as Grahame has been very good of late.

few in the media are giving the US team much chance for a medal.

I'm hoping that this will work as a positive for the US team.Build a 'we've something to prove' attitude, that brings them together.Esche needs to zip it though.

a few months ago Esche took a swipe at Grahame.Basically saying he didn't even belong in the nhl.Now Esche should refuse to answer any controversial(sp)questions, just repeat that he's there, ready to play if called on.

Let's go USA :yo:

Comeon, everyone has to admit their hoping for someone to get injuired so we can bring Ryan Miller in.

DW is gutless. He and the rest of the braintrust have to cut the red tape and find a way to bring Miller in to start these games.

There are ways, but they are just to cowardly to do so. :madfire:

Can someone please explain how Ryan Miller has all of a sudden become the Messiah of US goaltending? He would be a small upgrade at best and unlikely to affect our chances of medaling either way.

Can't we just leave the sickening ammount of crying over Miller in a different thread?

This is the choice that was made, and no matter how many mad faces you make, or how much you pout and whine, it isn't going to change.

This thread is to discuss Grahame being the starter, not why someone else isn't.

Go check out his stats and watch a few Sabres games, he's been nothing short of huge this last 12 game stretch or so, and pretty good before he broke his thumb too.

I tend to agree with this. Ryan Miller has had a great year, but at this point is he playing any better than say John Grahame? No.

While I agree that Waddell didn't show a ton of foresight leaving Miller off the team, you have to look at the big picture: At the time of the naming of the team, Miller was injured and no one really knew when he would return or when he would surplant a red-hot Martin Biron. Also, the reality is that DiPietro and Esche, despite mediocre seasons (statistically) have played very well for the U.S. in recent international competitions. Waddell played the best hand he had available to him.

Funny, if anything I'd say the media (at least in the US) has been overly generous with their predictions for the US team.

You don't think the U.S. can finish fifth or under ideal circumstances win bronze? I get it that Canada, the Czech Republic, and Sweden have the best chance paper to medal, but I fail to see how the U.S. is worse than Finland, Russia, or Slovakia.

Oh oh, the guy esche said doesn't even belong in the nhl is starting, while he's watching as 3rd string....will make for some interesting plane talk over there. :sarcasm:

USA will be lucky to finish 6th,most likely 2nd last ahead of Italy.

ESPN picked the USA to beat the Czech Republic for a medal. On OLN yesterday they were basically making it sound like Canada, the Czech Republic, Sweden, and the USA were the clear top 4, and that Sweden vs. USA for the bronze would be a very close matchup. Both are overrating the quality of the US team.

I've come across a whopping two articles, that say if the US comes together, they might win a bronze.

Burnsides on espn and Yurio on yahoo sports

On paper the U.S. isn't one of the top three or four teams, but I think people are going to be surprised at how well the team does on the ice.

Was he even invited. Isnt Dipietro the backup and Esche the 2nd. backup! Grahame deserves it, but I would like to see Dipietro with a good defense in front of him.

Lol...

Can someone dig up that old collection of quotes where Esche stated that one of the USA goaltender's didn't even deserve to be named (He as obviously implying Grahame) I want to look back and laugh...
