We need
1. Excellent skating skills
2. Hockey IQ if there is anything between the ears.
3. Speed speed speed
4 Size
5. Work ethic

If 4 of 5 traits are not there then pass on the draft pick if a 1st rounder. 3 out of 5 for rounds 2-7. You can only improve on the above traits by maybe 20% except for work ethic, it is there or it is a hard pass.. Ever great and good play as that their base and will work there ass off..so when you draft a player you look at them and say, what will they look like if they improved by 20%? Can they make the starting line up in 3 yrs or be traded for an asset. Three year or cut them loose..

The only box consistently check is size.. don’t see speed, skating skills, or any the jumps off the charts..

Even the 1st round isn’t a skater or speed guy..small as well..we have drafted a lot 1st rounders that were huge misses over the years.. a first rounder has to be a minimum of 3Ler..

A on Perreault alone. Could care less if they passed on some 5’6 dangler for the big guys. Likely none of them will make it.
Premier talent finally picked when the previous regime wanted to be the smartest in the room.
Address Lee 6th round pick. I wonder if those Islanders fans wrote him off when he was drafted. I rather wait until they have 1 or 2 respectable seasons after they got drafted in their college yesrs before saying they are a bust. This Henricks kid reminds of a less skilled Andres Lee type of player. I'd take that potential with a 6th round pick.

I really was hoping that we would have traded back. I really liked Quinton Burns, Riley Heidt, Gracyn Sawchyn, Danny Nelson and Kalen Lind. I would have loved to see Drury trade 1(23) and Goodrow to Chicago for 2(44), 2(55) and 3(67). Believe Goodrow fits in with what Chicago wants to surround Bedard with in the beginning and they have so much cap to spare.
Rangers could have taken
44- Nelson or Lind
55- Sawchyn or Heidt
67- Burns
91-Drew Fortesque, Jayden Perron, Denver Barkey or Arttu Karki

I looked quickly yesterday and I think the Rangers are around like 5 nhl regular players out of last 35 picks total. I did this math yesterday, so I could be off 1, one way or the other I think.

Did not include Weds picks Obviously.

Don't remember if I included 22 picks either. Don't think I did.
wow, that's what we call mediocre! But how many are 1st rounders on that list?

I just had a quick look and between 2010 and 2020 the Rangers have a 17.33% success rate - success meaning picks are playing in the NHL either for the Rangers or the team they were traded to. The non 1st rounders are Buchnevich, Shesterkin, Duclair, Graves and Barron.

You DONT pass on Gabe at 23. Sorry that would have been a brutal trade especially since you know those would not have been the picks Drury made with them.

This was the draft pick value for the last 3 picks going into to the draft. People get too worked up about late round picks.

They crushed the most important pick.

152nd: 0.2
178th: 0.2
183rd: 0.2

I give it a D, love the first pick but every other pick is an abomination. If not for that 1st, I'd say this was the worst draft I've ever seen from the Rangers (perhaps worst in NHL history), easy F. But the first pick is so great that it elevates it to a D. Really think Drury had to strategy going into them, didn't swing for fences on skill or any elite tools. Just took a bunch of big oafs who are committed to college hockey. Not much creativity in these picks. Are two overagers?

This is the analysis I come to HFB for.
