Have to say I'm pretty happy.

Happy Kings got out with their 1'st, Pearson/Vey/Toffoli

Glad another top 6 talent was brought in. Makes the Kings top 9 look real dangerous.

Frattin, glad DL was able to move him. Just a shame to have him be a healthy scratch. Also helped recover value from the Bernier deal.

Still could use a top pairing D man for Doughty. DL no doubt tried. Those are hard to find apparently.

Edit: English is hard.

The biggest issue right now with a top D is what DL said in an interview with the mayor. Saying that the cap might be as low as 68M now because of the Cdn dollar. Since the GM meetings in Dec he had been working under the assumption that it was going to be 71M and that 3M is huge to lose.

Overall during the season, DL's trades were mehh but today he killed it. I liked Hudson a lot too, but we netted a solid prospect in McNabb and 2 2nds. Then to get Gaborik he gave up just a 2nd and Frattin (and I loved Frattin, but obviously it wasn't working here and I doubt DL would have resigned him).

Gaborik, McNabb and a 2nd for Fasching, Deslauriers and a conditional 3rd. Done, done and done.

And I never cared much for Deslauriers. Hopefully he proves me wrong, he seems like a great guy, but he seemed all tools, no toolbox to me.

Solid job in a poor market with a lowered cap. I actually expected to just make a few minor moves. I didn't expect a splash..not a big splash, but splash still with Gaborik. Let's see if it works out. If not, we didn't lose too much.

The off-season is what I really look forward to. This was just the side salad. Give me the steak and hopefully I can eat it out of another Stanley Cup.

I understand a lot of people are upset about loosing fasching and nic d but if u break that trade down, it was nic d for mcnabb, and a prospect (not a good one) plus 2 2nds for fasching who is a freshman in college.dean got more for fasching than snow did for vanek.wow.

On paper, its a Bish, because he got quality assets for virtually nothing, in general.

But its bumped up to an A when you realize WE HAD ZERO CAP ROOM

I give him an A based on the moves.

Lombardi improved the team on paper without removing a Roster player of worth.

Prospects are just that....Prospects.

Never marry yourself to prospects. They have proven nothing at the NHL level.

Lombardi also made moves without giving up Toffoli/Vey/Pearson/Kings 1st round pick.

Futa and company get too swing the bat in Round one and two again this year.
WELL DONE.

Two key points for me, really. No room? No problem! Let TO and CBJ eat cap! Also, losing good prospects hurts, but we didn't give up a 1st or a (playing) roster player for a good Dman and Marian Gaborik.

I'd say solid B+/A- since the Doughty-partner situation isn't figured out completely (Muzzin could still develop into the guy, I guess), but we picked up a d-man who is a depth-dman at worst, a top-4 at best, and fills a need. We also picked up a multi (3?)-time 40-goal scorer who adds a dynamic dimension to Kopitar and is low-risk, high-reward. Considering all that has been accomplished and we STILL have picks in every high round over the next two years, cheers to Dean Lombardi, the draftpick whisperer.

Carcillo for NYR 7th

Salary cap move. Had to move money out. Had to open up a roster spot for Quick. UFA at the end of the year. An A? No. An F? No. It's not even a C. Just something that had to be done.

Scrivens for EDM 3rd

Scrivens was included in the Bernier deal in part because Toronto had to open up the spot for Bernier, and Jones was a RFA, with no NHL experience. Scrivens was always a place holder, and Jones will probably end up in the same situation. As long as Quick is the #1, the younger and cheaper the backup is, the better. A pick for Scrivens is fine.

Deslaurier & Fasching for Brayden McNabb, Jonathan Parker and two 2nds

Too early to say either way. It's a trade of wingers for a defenseman and draft picks. Sounds like a Lombardi dream come true.

Frattin, 2nd and conditional 3rd for Gabby

The potential of Gaborik at half the price, with no long term commitment, for a guy who wasn't doing much. How could you not take the swing under those conditions?

James Livingston (I presume) for Conditional 7th

It's been an interesting year for the Monarchs. A lot of bodies going in and going out.

I wouldn't be so quick to put a limit on McNabb. He sounds like he has lot more potential than Muzzin did when Muzzin was playing in the A. I'm sure none of us expected Muzzin would be our 1st pairing, but he's still there.

I guess I'm the only one here, but I really thought Dean picked up McNabb with the intention of him as a long term partner with Doughty.

A He is by miles our best GM ever and when he is making the deals I don't even have to worry.... I could not say that with any of the past GM's and with most of them I would be worried sick about the moves they were about to be making.

37 NHL games played.

Voynov helped a team win the Cup, and then followed that up by outscoring, and possibly outplaying, Doughty in the playoffs last year. He's been struggling this season, with 165 regular season games, and 38 games of playoff experience under his belt. Muzzin is 2 years older than McNabb, almost 80 more NHL games played, and 17 playoff games, and he's had his not so great moments.

What McNabb ends up being, only time will tell. Long term partner for Doughty, who knows. The guy hasn't even put a Kings jersey on yet.

Maybe, I'm just playing moderate as I haven't seen him skate. With the way he was described pre-draft reports, he sounds like a top-pairing d-man, but if the skating issues exist, maybe not so much. I guess I'm just playing it safe as I don't know what to make of him at this point  Looking forward to commentary via interview and so on.

For Today's needs...it's a B+

If you look at it this way the jury's out, but probably anywhere from a C to a B (unless they win another Cup):

Gaborik (likely a rental)
Regehr (+3 yr deal)
McNabb (Can't be worse than Muzzin)
Parker (Who knows)
EDM 3rd (lows 60's pick)

for

Bernier
Fasching
DeLauriers
Conditional 3rd

I like the looks of this. Also didn't DL get permission to talk with Gaborik's agent? To me that likely means that if Gaborik stays healthy DL is prepared to re-sign him, and that he knows Gaborik would stay

I have a hard time justifying giving him anything other than an A.

Agree. Needed scoring in 2012. Got Carter. Won a Cup.

Needed scoring in 2014. Got Gaborik.

You could ding Dean for not getting a natural LW, but considering in that Gaborik goal compilation video most of Gaborik's goals were scored on the left side, Dean may have actually acquired a LW after all.

Arguably in both cases Dean made the trade for the biggest "get" at the time that was the BPA to fill the biggest void on the Kings team at that time.

I don't know how you give him anything other than an "A". He gave the team the keys to succeed. They just need to stay healthy, get a little lucky with match-ups and execute.

And I'll say it again, AEG deserves props (again) for being owners who are now willing to pony up the bucks when needed.

8.5 / 10

But, at the same time, he had no choice but to make these moves, especially Gaborik. Is he the "missing piece" on offense, we will see, especially if he's healthy.

The only GM that did better is Bergevin who stole Vanek.

GKG!

I agree with this. :handclap:

I would like this deal more if Deslauriers was not part of it and we received only one 2nd round pick.
Deslauriers will be ready for NHL next year…
