Difference is that Bergevin is an idiot who talked out of both sides of his mouth and HuGo have been transparent the entire time.

yeah I supported MB for a long time but in the end he proved never ready or able to make the trades for those game changing kind of players... he was good at the money balling aspect of fining high value for low prices.. but couldn't find the game breakers...

I always had hope.. but in the end was just left disappointed.

thank God for the new regime proving to be much more competent!

They mentioned MSL was coaching with Brian Savage - curious what kind of work Savage has been doing. Can see a bit listed here:

If his coaching career is anything like his playing career, I bet his teams are on fire every October then cool off the rest of the year.

I have seen quite a few Habs GMs and I am not swayed by how smooth or articulate they are, which appears to impress people about HUGO.

What impresses me is having a good plan and walking the walk, while being competent in the plans execution. Hughes and Gorton are doing this.

I have certain views. I believe you must build through the draft, which means drafting most of your top players and having an abundance of players/ prospects / picks that you can trade for any missing pieces . These guys are doing that

Our GMs have consistently brought in defence 1st and only coaches who stifled individual play into a robotic system where the coach tried as much as possible to dictate every move a player made on the ice. And there was Ducharme lol. Last good coach we had was Demers, until MSL. HUGO was sharp enough to bring in a guy who believes in developing players. He may be lacking in some areas but scores high in the most important.

How many times did we talk about why we didn't have specialists working on players skating, skills etc. I mean one of the richest teams could afford it. We didn't. But now we have Nichols and people to help teach shooting, and this and that. We may be leading the league in this now and just a couple of years to turn it around because the smarts and will was there.

I think Hughes will give young guys as long a chance with us as he can. So I'm not sure trades involving our young Dmen this summer. By next summer yes.

I think he will use the Jets 1st in a trade. Maybe even to move our 1st up.

Something I was sick of hearing was Montreal fans don't care how we win as long as we win the Cup. Me, I call BS. So 3 decades of putrid play led by 2nd rate coaches has led to one Finals appearance, in 3 decades. Boring hockey. HUGO said right off the top they want yo win a Cup, but also Entertain the fans. Good God.

So far so good. They won't always be right, but they have the right big picture.

We'd invite him back to HF here so people can just flood him with questions in a 24-hour span.

I expect a big summer next year, guess we will see. I'm sure Suzuki is fed up with rebuilding and is telling management about it.
As is, but healthy, I think we improve by about 10 points. Into the 80s, which will still leave us out of the post season. Now if we bring in someone maybe we make a run at it.

Brian Savage might be the most sane HF Boards user of all time. Logged in once to say hi and planned on staying, got annoyed with some of the weirdos on day 1 and never came back.

I think of his time on HFBoards more than his time in Montreal at this point in my life.
I mean, we had Brian friggin' Savage amongst us and we chased him away by acting like teenage groupies at a NKOTB public appearance!

I'll always remember the first 4 hours after a mod confirmed his identity. He was actually answering back to every poster! For a brief while, we were all insiders...

No buyouts this summer apparently. Woooo more years of Anderson floating

It was never a buyout with Anderson. I expect they trade him with retention, which they can't do until July 1st when Edmundson comes off the cap.

Maybe they buyout Gallagher summer of 2025.

No buyouts this year definitely. I don't want a 6 year cap hit. Retention is a better option if we can do it.

I think you could say the same for most of the former players ,coaches.scouts or tv/ radio personalties that have come on here.Instead of showing them a bit of respect some on here would rather run them down, call them bsers or whatever until they get pissed and leave.

He came in so naive, excited to talk hockey and Habs, little did he know the box of hell he was opening upon himself.
