I have to hope that most of the replies on here are simply people trying to "look cool" or controversial on the internet.

If you have to kill an animal to save a child's life, you do. Plain and simple.

Not saying it isn't sad, because it is. But you choose the child over the animal every time.

Is it wrong to value the life of an endangered specie more than the life of a not-even-close to be endangered specie and to have some kind of openness towards the life of other animals instead of demonstrating incredible "selfishness" towards your own specie?

So you're in a fire...

Do you take the earrings your great great grandma passed down generation to generation or the costume jewellery you can replace at Ardene?

Was there literally no option for tranquilization over just straight up killing the thing?

Edit: found this blurb online

The gorilla was not tranquilized because when the animal is agitated, Maynard said, the tranquilizer may not take effect right away. This was the first time Cincinnati Zoo officials have killed an animal in this manner, Maynard said.

Supposedly the tranquilizer necessary to take down such a beast would be a lethal dose for the child.

Bullet seemed safer

Because the bullet that can take down such a beast is much safer.

It's just a case of zoo officials not acting fast enough (none of this would have happened after the child got into the cage if they had preventively tranquilized the gorilla and wanting to save their own safe with what I believe to be an even dumber decision.

Regarding your earings thing, it has nothing to do with my point. Your compared elements do not match with those in this actual scenario.

It completely does.

One is abundantly replaceable. The other is not.

And what we are discussing is much bigger than 4 generation sentimental value.

Can someone, once and for all, explain to me if ix is a troll or just a total manchild as I long have suspected. I just need to know. I'm not privy to the joke despite being here over ten years.....so end my misery once and for all.

In the meantime......

At first it appeared that the gorilla was protective but then it just dragged the child through the water HOW CAN YOU DO THAT

How about the fact HE'S A ****ING GORILLA!!!! A WILD ANIMAL!!!!

I blame the imbecile parents for visiting the zoo that day.

With that said, once the gorilla grabbed the kid or begun to do anything that posed any danger for the kid.....it was over for him.

And people say putting one of those leashes on a small child is inhumane?

Would've saved that gorilla, that's for sure. And also saved the parents from being marked as colossal ****-ups who can't keep an eye on their child while near a gorilla enclosure.

I blame the enclosure.

Let's free all dangerous and wild animals as they do have a right to be free...and let social Darwinism work it's magic.

I understand why it was done. But it's just another fine example of why we suck as a species.
