I was on the range from about 1:00-2:00 and felt pretty good hitting with that strong draw wind.

Too bad side winds... and in your face winds don't have the same feel/results as a tail wind...

I was out there from 4 until 5 and I was enjoying a little reprieve from side and front winds... I still worked hard at setup and half swings regardless, just to keep crisp, repetitive contact...

Beautiful afternoon...

Lots of room over the fairway bunker on 1, over the inside edge of the bunker and leftish is the shot.

2 is very straightforward, just don’t get in the bunkers

3, stat centre left. Temptation is to rip it over the bunkers on the right but the margin for error is low. Doesn’t really help much and can lead to a blind 2nd shot.

4. reachable par 5, stay towards the bunker on the right. You can hit through the fairway if you’re too left.

5 smash it and don’t miss right. Easy short par 4.

6. Tough hole into the wind, very elevated green, use an extra club on the approach.

7. Tough to reach in 2 although doable. If you miss, miss right on the approach but left off the tee. Don’t be long into the green.

8. tricky angle, aim more right and you’ll come right over the front bunker, which is where you want to be.

9. Keep tee shot centre left for the best approach. Keep right into the green. All the trouble is left.

10. Over the right side of the fairway bunker. Don’t go straight over it or you’ll end up in the crap. Elevated green, take and extra club and don’t miss left.

11. Don’t be long, right side of the green feeds to anything middle and left.

12. Bomb it. Easy short par 4.

13. keep tee shot to the right of the fairway bunkers on the left. Temptation is to bomb it but could end up with a tricky downhill lie to a raised green if you hit too far.

14. take it straight over the fairway bunker on the left. Reachable in two but bail left. Right is a nightmare.

15. don’t try to take it over the bunkers on the right. Stay just inside them. Missing left into the green is tough.

16. Hit a soft draw up the centre left. Leaves you a short iron into an elevated green. Tough hole if you don’t place the tee shot.

17. club down, elevated tee, don’t miss long. Easy short par 3.

18. Don’t bit off too much of the corner on the dogleg. Better bet is a tee shot over the left edge of the front fairway bunker. If you’re in the fairway, bomb away with a 3 wood for your second shot, it’s reachable and not much trouble unless you miss wildly.

That’s my 5 cents.

good luck!
Can you imagine the knowledge you would have of Southwood if you were a member? :naughty:

At 2:45 I am taking my 12 year old son for his first 9 holes ever at Crescent drive golf course. It’s one of those father son moments I won’t forget.

Well that was a fun time.

We lost the match 2 down, but won the back 9 so got a point. One of the guys we were playing was a stick, must have been 1 or 2 under. As a team they didn't make a bogey.

I hit it well but still made some not know the course errors, despite @Ducky10 best efforts lol. Most of the course was in good shape but the greens...the putting green was in great shape then got out on the course and the greens had been punched and just not grown back in yet. Bumpy as hell. Didn't make a putt outside 4 feet and neither did my partner, reason we lost the match really. They look like once they grow back in though they will be good.

My kid is easy to please so we will have a blast. The moment is not lost on me. This is my reward for unretiring from Golf.

I took my soon to be 8 year old son to the range this weekend. Mostly a combo of wild hockey looking swings and baseball grip, but it was pretty fun. He got a blister pretty early, so I didn't get to practice too much, but it was a good time.

My son has a total of 4 shared buckets at the range under his belt but I think he’s ready to try a par 3 course. We’ll see I guess.

Atta boy!! I played my very first game at Crescent Drive and 40 years later I'm still in love with the game. I hope your son gets a hole-in-one .

Crescent drive couldn’t be a more perfect place to learn. That’s where I started with my son. It’s perfect and a non intimidating atmosphere.

They couldn’t have invented a better course to start my kid on. At his age, size, and experience he can use a driver off every tee. He had an absolute blast. Very memorable day with some good video footage.

Canoe Club would be a good fit too. Less tree-y to boot. Couple of “par 5s “you don't get at Wildwood.

Thanks buggs that is a good idea. I think we can work our way towards that as the summer progresses.

Hadwin with a good 1st round at the U.S Open yesterday, hope he keeps it going. Played Torry Pines a few years ago, beautiful course, kicked the shit out of me but i broke 100 there, 97 .
