Congrats to Finland. Some of you posters though need a reality check. This tournament, like the Spengler Cup is popular in Europe, and means more to Europeans. That is why guys like Malkin and Ovechkin go everytime they ask, and Canada's top players decline. It does not mean much to Canadians also.

Looking at the roster of Canada, only a couple of players might make Canada's Olympic team. If Canada had won yesterday, there would not be tens of thousands of people celebrating in the streets of Toronto or Ottawa. This tournament is a second-tier tournament, since it is not Best on Best. It is the same as the Spengler Cup for me. We win- that is great, if we do not- it is not the end of the world. That attitude is not the same for Europeans, who love this tournament like it is the Stanley Cup.

It is great hockey, but just because you beat Canada does not make you the Best. I am happy Canada got the Silver, since i thought this team would be lucky to make it to the Semis. Finland is a great hockey nation, but you can be the best when you win the Gold Medal or the World Cup.

You need to cool off bud. Do you see anyone here unironically claiming Finland is overall better at hockey than Canada? Just accept the loss and move on.

Just did a reality check, we're World champions 2019.

Congrats on beating Canada's C or D Team. There would not be tens of thousands of people in the streets of Toronto or Ottawa if Canada had won. Just the reality. A second-tier tournament, on the big ice, which matters to Europeans. Win the Gold Medal or World Cup for once.

There it is! I love this condenscending Canadian "second-tier tournament", "D/E/F...team" lamentation after a defeat. We just beat your country twice with 0 NHL players and at least a D-team. Your country was stacked with players from the NHL and the teams combined goals in the NHL last season were over 300.

So you don't care about the tournament? Big deal, it's your loss. We love this game and we know how to party!

Sorry, you're ill informed, please read the thread again, thanks.

Im not even Finnish. Jesus the salt is just pouring over here. Also World Cup was a circus tournament that had bush teams like "Team Europe" and "Team NA". Talk about a joke tourney.

Is that some kind of tradition in Canada to repeat exactly same statement billion times? Do you think more times you repeat the more truthful it becomes, or what? we already know not as many Canadians nor Americans care (although TV ratings growing every year), but can’t you just enjoy this wonderful tournament, which is most competitive senior international tournament with nothing better in sight? Just deal with it.
Btw. Canada was very lucky to make it this far considering they were close to loss twice. But they played nice dynamic hockey, better than most more talented teams.

Finland ... zero the hero.

Lankinen.

Party, party!

Keep on pouring the salt. It's just going to fuel our engines even more.
Hope it fuels your engines to win a best on best tournament. Sweden won in 2006. The Czechs won in 1998. Finland is a very good hockey nation, but is always the runner up. I know the truth hurts.

The World Champions of the minor leagues. Congrats. This is not a best on best tournament. A joke to call yourself world champs. I said the same when Canada won. Does not mean you are the best.

And honestly Finland is a way more likely than Canada to win some international tournament now, they are even superior in junior and u18 categories. Try better.

I think most Finns are patriotic in a healthy sense. Something that our western neighbour is missing.

The interesting thing is that Swedes are fiercly nationalistic. I know, I am one of them. The problem is that it is based on Superbia. Officially a Swede would be ready to storm the heavens, and believe that they can create diligent people out of anyone, no matter where they come from.

That part of Swedish society is very dangerous, for the base is no longer in reality, but in a sense a throwback, to Carolean times.

Not all is bad though, but I think it is fair to say that Sweden and Finland might be two of the most extreme nations in the world.

'Nuff with politics.

This win was great - and I think a huge majority of Swedes cheered for Finland. I even bought 2 Lapin Kultas today for to celebrate.

Since beer has been mentioned: my favourite lager is Krušovice, the beer you can see on the sideboards, expensive for a macrolager, but hella better tasting.

For that matter, the Lapin Kulta was quite ok, seriously better than the cheapest macrolagers from Sweden. The cans I have seem to have been brewed in Lahti.

Actually not, the overall level of finnish hockey for the past 25 years is good enough for me.

There are 6 great hockey nations. Not badmouthing Finnish hockey. Just reacting to some earlier posters by pointing out the fact that this tournament means a lot more to Europeans. If Canada or the US had won- there would not be thousands of people in the streets. It is like the Spengler Cup. Great hockey, but not best on best. More like the minor leagues. The reality for North Americans. That is why sadly- so many Canadian players decline, while guys like Ovechkin and Malkin are the first ones to go.
