As a goalie it is rediculously hard for a goalie to make saves when they see minimal action. No rhythme to the game, loose focus and make stupid mistakes.
Smith is doing what is asked and that is perfect.

That's not my concern, my concern is after his NHL season - this was the best goalie that accepted the invite?

I am looking at both rosters right now, the depth is just not even remotely close.

Canada can role 4 lines and 4 D this entire game, 1-2-3-4 and have no issue worrying about line matching.

Some of the past Soviet teams really ran table on a lot of still developing nations back in the day. I would assume they've got a rather untouchable record in that department.

Yeah cause Crosby, Giroux, Duchene, Eberle, Hall, MacKinnon, Seguin, Spezza, Toffoli, O'Reilly and Ennis it 3rd and 4th liners in the NHL

And there are none who play in Europe on this roster btw.
